What are the insignia on the shoulders.
I don't recall blue shoulder badges on British Infantry.

Regiment is usually a red curved badge.

Great stuff, I'm just reading about the Canadians, pushing into Hunland in 1945. That No.2 on the PIAT must be a rookie if he's not prone, if they're about to let fly it means they're both pretty close to Jerry!

:o

Yup, good point.

Perhaps the No 2 is around the corner of a building or a stone wall while the gunner is prone aiming the weapon? ;)

Thank-you for the clarification about the insignia.

I have had a MKIII Sherman on the bench for maybe a year.  Finished it today.  1/56 Rubicon.

A good start - the Sherman has been weathered nicely.

Great stuff, and the weathering on the Sherman looks especially good without being overstated.

Prototype for power poles for Europe.  Materials used were two sizes of skewers, washer, icy pole sticks and left over sprue.

Nice work.

Are they for power or telephone/telegraph wires?
Title: Re: 28mm WWII project
Post by: Ragnar on June 15, 2019, 09:28:54 PM
Edit:  Thank you!

Literally, I have no idea UVS.   lol  Maybe they are telephone poles??

I just looked at contemporary pictures and constructed them, compromising on ease of construction and availability of materials.

And finished the telephone/telegraph/electricity poles. Six of, enough for a standard table, I think.

The North Nova Scotia Highlanders get some reinforcements.

A Warlord resin Bren carrier and two Blacktree riflemen.

Sorry about the blurred photo, it must not be their 'good' side.

They haven't been zapped with the spray varnish yet, so the brown of the uniforms will end up quite darker.

Nice. Just curious how you are obtaining BTD figures, given the difficulty of getting an order successfully?
Title: Re: 28mm WWII project
Post by: Ragnar on July 25, 2019, 07:03:21 AM
Thanks.

I bought a platoon's worth of British and WSS years ago.  Looking to Crusader for my reinforcements these days.

Sensible. I've been waiting 8 months for a corrected order from BTD. I ended up buying some from eBay to complete a platoon.

I don't know about sensible, but if you consider compulsively buying figures and then not starting to paint them for many years is sensible, then that's me!   ;D

The smock is really effective, I like that, but the hands are way lighter than the face?
Title: Re: 28mm WWII project
Post by: Ragnar on July 27, 2019, 09:07:23 AM
Thanks man.

Weirdly, I had forgotten to do my last level of flesh highlight on hands and face, so thanks for the heads up!  I also think it is the natural shadow caused by the overhead light that may make the face look a little darker.  I always avoid using flash.

What about if you replace "for many years" with "not so far"?

That's a very good looking montage of stuff you've built.  I like the details...down to the patches on the uniforms.  Good show!

Yes, it's been a while.

Start of a new platoon.  Here are some 28mm Volksgrenadiers using the free sprue from WI.  Quite nice figures and I think they will fit well with the Empress range.

Finally completed two more Sherman MKIIIs and Firefly to round out my Canadian armoured troop.  Mind you, when editing the photos, I noticed that I hadn't grubbied up one set of the Firefly's running gear.   lol  That has now been fixed.

Very nice...  Guards Armoured? If so, usually down the back, polishing things, while the officers played leapfrog.

Ah, good stuff. Just couldn't see the insignia properly.

Right. Back to squeezing Perry Desert Rats conversions into teeny 3d printed carriers.
