Title: 15mm Joan of Arc — I’m blown away by so much awesomeness
Post by: DivisMal on June 07, 2019, 07:15:09 PM: I just arrived home from work and was greeted by my wife with the words „There is a box for you...neither the postman nor I wanted to carry it inside!“

Without getting an email I received my pledge of the Joan of Arc KS...and boy does it look good...the terrain is ace, the minis even or especially the individuals look simply great and the monsters while maybe a bit too large are great, too.

Has anyone else already received it? I’ll post some pictures especially comparisons with my 15mm Arthurian project once the chores and the baby let me.

Christmas in June!!... can't wait!.... most aren't posting pics of the "normal" guys in the plastic bags... i'd love to see those up close if you want to post some pics... i'll live through you until my box gets here...

Got it a couple weeks ago in fact beyond a quick peak, no time. work and other stuff.

But just that is three big boxes of really stunning plastic etc.

Mythic really done another cracking KS, I really wish I could have gone all in.

Still there's enough there already to get on with for sure.

I am SO glad I pledged for this, always a bit of a risk backing a big ambitious game like this but at first inspection of it all it looks like they have delivered above my expectations. (almost wish i had backed at a higher level, but the basic pledge is still a ton of stuff)

The quality of the casting looks to be better than I expected. I am working on the alternative armies resin 15mm fantasy buildings atm and quality seems comparable with the JoA buildings and the scale is a good match! :D The normal human sized minis look good (better than some older metal 15mm manufacturers by a mile, possibly not quite as good as the best modern metal 15mm)-Very impressive for plastic at this scale.
The bigger monsters could almost pass for low/mid end resin at first glance , though they are maybe lacking a little detail which I think is as much the digital sculpts as the material, still very impressive.

I backed this originally for the miniatures and I reckon that was a pretty damn good deal, with the terrain, board tiles, the monsters and what seems at a first scan to be a very interesting and in depth game I am pretty excited to have a proper sit down with this tomorrow, the fusion of board game/rpg/wargame mechanics certainly looks intriguing...

I may report back with pics...

Some things don’t work 100% here. I’m not sure whether such wagons wouldn’t have spoked wheels in the middle ages, but having been doing research on prehistoric wheels for years I can agree that disc wheels might have been used still for heavy duty...so it’s okay...ish.
The yoke is nice but looks a bit too primitive, also the connection to the draught pole.

Anyway. A very nice model.

Post by: armchairgeneral on June 08, 2019, 05:04:32 PM: Have to admit this is not really my thing but having checked out the Kickstarter I have been rather blown away by such an epic undertaking. Quite a spin on the 100YW to expand it into an apocalyptic conflict :o

The sculps look great, I particularly like the buildings. Once the figures are available individually I expect they will sell well.

It is said to come into normal retail, but without the exclusives. According to reliable sources there are even people working on localisations (German has been confirmed). I tell you 15mm will be the next big thing...imagine somone would make OS Chaos Dwarfs in that scale.... lol

They had 2 tables playing Joan of Arc, which i hadn't gotten a chance to play yet. For a while I thought i might just use the minis with my other standard rule sets, but after playing the joan of arc rules, they are very unique and fun. The play is very streamlined and fluid. I look forward to their revised wargame rules in the next kickstarter later this year.

oh I was in the original kickstarter... I was ALL IN... I have the dragon... HE IS MASSIVE!!... I've been too intimidated to paint him as of yet.

I haven’t even tried them yet, but I had the same idea. Pillage the models to play some other ruleset. Warhammer or so.

But maybe I should give them a go?

I'll leave a couple free of each type for unknown scenarios... this will also make playing dragon rampant and the likes easier with them already based... I left them on the original base so the colored rings still work.

The minis are so nice... the gameplay is very fun and smooth, and even if you don't want to play the game, you have everything you need to start gaming this time period in 15mm. So excited they are running the kickstarter again on October 1st... with the new TEUTONIC knight expansion.

I think the only thing i'm interested since I went all-in last go around is some more dice ( I did get the plunder set) and the Teutonic set... My reasoning for more dice is when I was setting up for a game one day it dawned on my that with my neoprene mat and everything else I got I have enough for 2 games to go at once... I've sense tested it out and you truly do have enough for 2 scenarios to be set up and since the games play relatively quick everyone could have enough time to play both sides of both scenarios.... The only thing I noticed was that we had a lot of dice sharing which was a bit of a bother... other then that everything was really smooth... always nice to get enough components to have multiple games going on! That also alleviates the one gripe a lot of people who aren't super familiar with miniature wargames have which is set up time.... having 2 different scenarios ready to game is a nice time saver too.

Glad you like it... I have to admit i've had a bit of a push behind me lately as I was contacted from Mythic Games... They like what i've been doing and want to use some of these photos for promotional stuff and possibly in the next kickstarter... so I've been cranking extra hard to give them more material. I have always only gamed in 28mm, but this system is so complete and so encompassing it really doesn't feel like adding another range to me. This is my 100 yrs war range now. it's smaller, but paints so much faster and it's complete. No buying more from other companies ranges. I'm done... I can continue to collect my other ranges as I see fit. I can have huge battles in just a 3x3 space too... which is really nice.

I have been experimenting with Contrast Paints as well recently and though I do not use them for painting whole miniatures, I find them highly useful. I can definitely see them being of use here!

I don't think they will have the components available individually... but i can't confirm that. They have alluded to being able to just buy more miniatures of different types for the wargamers just wanting the nice sculpts.... So maybe just a building bundle too?? Of course everything will be available on ebay individually from sellers, but you'll be paying up for that! I think all-in was around $500, I can't remember... but that was for EVERY expansion, the extra dice and bases pack, the neoprene mat (which is really nice). For what I got, it was VERY worth it.

I prime them all white or very light grey... I like them based at least in 3's at this scale... even for dragon rampant, I can use a die or counter for each unit killed until a unit of 3 can be removed... moving them all individually when they are this small would be a bit of a chore... moving 4 bases (12 minis) is very alluring...I'm still keeping all the heroes based by themselves.... I can see why the black powder guys love basing them in 6s... move 2 bases for 12 units!

GW basilicum grey contrast paint over light grey primer.... that's it.... super easy.

I knew what was in the core box, but the reliquary box came as a huge surprise - monsters, including The Beast and Cockatrice, an Ottoman army including the sultan on his flying carpet, more characters, including Edward III mounted and dismounted, more types of infantry, an artillery piece, various demons, musicians and flags and extra cards.

I am quite keen to paint all of this eventually, but will give it an initial go just using the coloured ring bases. first job, get my head round the rules, which seem relatively straightforward, and investigate the world of laminating pouches to find the best fit for the various cards.

Previously I have only ever done historical gaming, but the idea of an historical medieval world populated by the creatures that the people of the time actually believed in is very appealing and a great bridge between history and fantasy.

It did occur to me that putting figures in and taking figures out for each game would be a bit of a bind, but my second box has loads more figures but no extra bases, so may look at either MDF round bases or some other solution.

They are 16cm point to point... They are not available separately, however, they are offering a pack from the core box separately that are 25% bigger... there was a lot of people who wanted larger tiles... so those will be available in the pledge manager... jump in and help us get the last stretch goals!

Last night, as the 1.5 KS closed was both exciting and very satisfying. Meanwhile plenty to get on with while waiting for the Teutonics.
