Rebels and Patriots have a list for the units who fought at the Battle of Ridgeway. The Canadian part looks like this:
1 Skirmisher Good shooters Spencer rifles
2 Skirmisher
4 Green Line infantry
1 Timid Green Line Infantry that are Good Shooters
From what I can gather the largest Canadian unit present was the Queens Own Rifles/Toronto Militia followed by the Hamilton Militia. I'm not sure where to slot the various Canadian units into the above list. This matters in terms of painting uniforms. I'd be grateful for any advice anyone here can give me. Thanks in advance.

Queens own Rifles. at Ridgeway. 10 companies and fought as such. All companies ,except the 5th had Enfield rifles w/ little or no marksmenship experience.Partlyl drilled ,but green shooting. 5th company was given Spencers enroute and were trying to figure out the weapon, ran out of ammo very quickly. The uniform was dark green w/ red cuffs and collar, mix of shakos and pill box caps. The 10th comp. was the Highland comp.,which I painted w/ plaid trews and used glengarry cap.No Flags. Good morale ,eager but green.Blew thru the ammo.

Osprey Book the Canadian Campaigns good scource, plus Googling. Okay the 13th Hamilton most militia line units in accordance w/ the militia act of 1855? ,Had red uniforms w. blue collars and cuffs some had white trim ,some did not.All rifle were dark green w. red. Hamilton I did a mix of shakos and pillbox and glengarrys, because it was individual companies thrown into one unit.,again no flags in Battle. Enfield rifle. Same Morale and such as other. You also had one comp. each Caledonia and York rifles guarding the rear and what little supplies they had. One horse and that was Bookers.,no artillery.

I just got done painting all my Fenians and Canadians. They are so much fun/ As far as Fenians, veteran soldiers ,good officers, but prone to despair at the first reversal..could be the alcohol .I;m posting some pictures of their flags and the Monument for Gen. O'Neill, which oddly ehough ,is here in Omaha /Nebraska at the Holy selpuchre cementary, small world. He founded the town of O'Neill/Nebraska.If you google Fenian Flags, they had three More designs. I hope this helps..

What a cracking thread, really interesting stuff. :)

That's just the ticket Juergen. Thanks very much.
Do you happen to know what colour plaid the Highland Company used? Main colour that is, I'm doing this in 15mm so it's not going to be an exact painting job.
It might be of interest to folks that I'm using Rank and File 19th Century Miniatures British for the Canadians. They come in Albert Shako or Kilmarnock cap and fit well with Battle Honours ACW who are providing my Fenians.
The R&F figures aren't perfect for Canadians as they are wearing coatees. The poses mainly obscure this which helps. That said a quick and easy conversion with 'green stuff' seems very achievable. I may do this.
Also I think QRF has an Italian pack which very nearly works as Canadians, the skirt of the jacket is a little long otherwise they would do.

The Govt. Tartan for the Highland Comp. (black Watch). Glad you enjoyed,it;s a fun conflict.

I cannot deny it Vincent.

I;m the same way. Pig war...William walker in Nicaragua...1864 Schleswig war.....SYW India...now the Sugar Island campaigns 1759...and then Samoa and Borneo

I now have some 15mm figures for Ridgeway painted up on my blog. They seem to look enough like the images Juergen kindly posted to do the job. Do drop by and have a look if you fancied doing this conflict in 15mm but were stymied by the lack of suitable figures for the Canadians. My Canadians are Rank and File Miniatures and my Fenians are Battle Honours ACW.
