Title: What should be Khurasan's first Kickstarter?
Post by: Khurasan Miniatures on July 11, 2019, 05:17:53 PM
Hi, after about a decade of refusing to jump on the bandwagon, I've finally decided to give it a go.  But I'm not sure which product to fund using Kickstarter first.  Here are the four choices shown as images:

1) 15mm WarForce Reserve, popularly called the "Green Guys" (there are many more poses than these)

2) 28mm (1/48th scale) version of the "M34 Taylor" tank we sell in 15mm (this is the historical American T-34 tank prototype)

3) Wave 1 of a 28mm Late 12th century range, which would be mounted knights

4) 28mm versions of our Mekanoid sci fi sentient robot warriors

The boys in green.  They're fantastic.

All good options, I like the knight best though.

I'd love the Green Guys in 28mm please. Stretch Goal, perhaps?

Since I'm not terribly interested in any of them, I'll just comment on each.

1) The "Green Guys" look cool.  15mm isn't as big a draw as 28mm, but since you do a ton of 15mm  - only you know if the market is there to support it.

2) A 28mm tank is going to be large and expensive and you're doing a random prototype tank?  That's kind of a narrow prospect for random collectors and painters.

3) I feel like the market is pretty flooded with quality (and plastic) 28mm Medieval cavalry/infantry/etc.  These would have to be exceptional (in either quality, price, etc.) to even compete.  I think this is probably a poor direction.

4) The robots are pretty neat - what material?  I'd imagine resin, and how big?  I think these are probably your best generic bet.  Keep the options limited unless the KS goes big.

I think most of these are pretty boutique, which is fine if that's what your goal is for the KS - just fund enough to make one run, etc.  There are definitely a couple which don't scream "this'll sell like hotcakes!", namely the prototype tank and the knight(s).

And I take a very different view. The M34 I agree, it's a unique niche product. No-one 'needs' one, and only a few will want one, and that will be just one.

The 15mm Sci-Fi is nice and will probably be pretty popular, but is 15mm Sci-Fi  a mainstream popular genre? From looking around at shows, blogs etc.. no. There are also plenty of other good quality ranges out there (GZG, Rebel etc..)

On the other hand if you want 12c knights, there just aren't many ranges out there (any?) There are a couple of 'popular' conflicts in period (Crusades, Baron's Wars etc) and people buy in numbers, no-one buys a single knight.

But it will be interesting to see what people are actually prepared to sign up for.

Well, so far the 15mm green guys and knight are winning, the others barely registering.

Agree there aren’t a lot of knights like this. Fills a nice niche.
