I enjoyed the write up, that’s a very cool idea for a campaign and it comes through in the narrative.
I’m curious about the multi-based figs - do you adjust the rules at all vs using single-based?
I’m looking forward to the next installment!
-
Thanks.
Simple, quick fix. Not necessarily official. I multi-based weak swarm types. They outnumber single models and have two wounds.
-
Well that was great. Turning on notifications!

More excellent content, inspiring blog, thanks.

Enjoyed reading about this in my email this morning. Always a very entertaining and inspiring read.

Thank you. I aim to please.
Just so ya know, the players aren't constrained to these initial Fantasy trope characters. Seeing as the Legion is fragmented and scattered along the west bank of the river, they're allowed to create new characters/select a new hero miniature, if they want anytime in the next two sessions. After that, it's 'til death do us part.'
Taking another cue from Band of Blades - to add breadth to the campaign, each player has been assigned to represent one facet of the Legion's command and logistics: Spymaster (recon/intel), LoreMaster (morale and medicine), Quartermaster (materials, forage, fodder), Marshal (troops, recruits)
Each will lobby for a particular type of mission in the hope of increasing their supply/store. But the Legion can't begin to make their way East to a safe haven until all four values are above 50%.

Cinder King Part 2: The Rochant Monastery
The battle is over. The war has just begun.
Karlsburg is still burning. The Cinder King’s army is just across the river, massing under the pall of corpse-stench and black smoke. Only the Tigeria’s waters separate you and the remnants of the Empire’s forces from total defeat. Our heroes move out, hoping to find desperately needed supplies at the ruins of an ancient monastery.
Turns out, the ruins are not deserted as was initially reported.

This week's game session was cut short.
Apparently some young skulls full of mush were tearing around a nearby town shooting out car windows with BB guns and they shot the windows out of Other Pat's car while his wife and newborn daughter were inside the house. Classy.
Rumor has it they did their 'drive by' on a local supermarket too. Here's hoping they were caught on camera.
-
good grief ... :(
anyhow - great looking skirmish board and write-ups.
just the sort of thing I was hoping to get going with ASoBaH myself - maybe some day.
-
Who knew that was all it would take to stop the Cinder King?

But seriously... morons. >:(
-
Sorry to hear that! Great looking game and campaign though!
-
Thank you. Yes, we were short a couple players who had to work, and then when Other Pat got the news, we called time out.
I'll recreate the first half of the game and take pictures this weekend. With any luck, we'll finish up this Tuesday night.

Our heroes scout out the rise above the Tigeria River. Is the Cinder King massing his army on the opposite bank? Or will he force a crossing elsewhere?

What a turn of events, very cinematic indeed.
-
It was pretty dramatic actually. Things were looking pretty grim that first session. Derek was back the next week and he rallied the troops in a big way. John would be making a new character if the Cleric hadn't bludgeoned his way to his side and healed him.
End of the game, they managed to grab both objectives. All four services - Quartermaster, Marshal, Lorekeeper, and Spymaster - increased to 50% or more, and the survivors marched from the Western Bank to Plainsworth. There's still a long ways to go but they're one step closer to Skydagger Keep.
-
Here's the campaign map. The group starts in the lower left and must march to the upper right. They decide the route.

Superb, keep it coming! :D
-
Thanks. We're having fun.
And the Cleric is definitely going to the top of the Cinder King's hit list.
-
Excellent writ ups and great figures. Looking forward to more!

Lazarus wading into the thick of it is a common sight - a bit too common for my liking. I'm trying to keep the pressure on but I gave the starting characters a step up right out of the gate (they're described as veteran mercenaries) and now they're a bit *too* powerful for the regular line baddies in this first arc.
We paused this week's session mid-battle against a mini-boss. Finish up next Tuesday, then Other Pat will run some RPG one-shots while I paint up/write up the next portion.
They look strong now but the Cinder King is coming.
