Hello
i'm in the process of digitalising my archives and very happy to eliminate tons of paper...among them i'm finding, after years of collecting, some original prints some rarely or never appearing on the web.. ..that , before putting maybe on sell on ebay, ill be pleased to share...
those ones, from the great Belgian artist J. Thiriar, refers to Belgian Congo's Force Publique fights VS Mahdists, Arab Slavers and various tribesmen/rebels in Congo:
-
Great images. Thanks for sharing.

those ones could be find on the web but so not easily so i add them for including in the topic also uniforms ref:
-
same topic...more images..i actually refought a pair of battles on my tabletop..Belgian Congo is quite interesting also for the mixing troops...azande and other tribesmen against or allied with Belgains Askaris Vs Mahdists of Vs Slavers...every option possible..even arabs allied with Belgians..but Mahdists allied with Belgians is not possible of course ;):
-
battle scenes ecc:
-
some more..including one from the Kingdom of Kongo..before Belgian advent
-
Stanley on pay of King Leopold and , at the end, the Begians "forced" to give back to Egyptians/British the enclave recuperated from the Mahdist Empire even if they were the first (togther with Italians of course ;)) to stop the spreading of the Mahdist ulcera..probably Belgium being a sort of satellite State of Britain did'nt dare to resist them and ended like Marchand at Fashoda..

Wonderful! Thanks, Italwars!

Guess what the free set for Crisis 2019 is? Yes, it's two free figures this year!
-
These are amazing! The visual narrative for each painting almost comes alive.
I remember seeing some of the samples for the uniforms and attire online, but never the scenes before.
I thank you too Italwars!

Great resource for uniforms and general inspiration. Thanks!

glad that you liked that stuff
time permitting i will also scan and post the Liebig Chromo series, in colour, about "Tribes from Belgian Congo" masterfully draw by the same artist
-
Wonderful drawing there. Very invocative. Wish I could make Crisis this year, sadly no chance.

hello
still finding interesting obscure sources on my Colonial paper files....are you also interested if i follow the topic by posting also this full series..18 plates..same author, James Thiriar, about all the main tribes of Congo at the time of Belgian conquest and wars?:
-
Ah, the old Chicken Soup Tetela! I've got these prints on a hard drive somewhere. Nice to see them again.
Those Tetela are quite useful, and not too difficult to convert from Foundry Azande. You can use them as allies and enemies for both the Force Publique and the Congo Arabs.
Nice one!
