So I’ve had a wee idea of a game I’d like to play. I’ve not seen anybody do this yet(I may be wrong here) but I’d like to build a Bespin Tibanna Mine from the Empire Strikes Back.
My initial idea would be to have a circular 4x4 board, built out of mdf, with smaller mdf discs representing 4 landing platforms in each corner. If I’m stupid enough, I may even buy a printed mat with a sunset sky for underneath!
My thinking so far with buildings is fairly simple...buy cheap plastic bins and containers, cut them up and add the door sections and stuff in between, and add plastic card detail to the outside.
I’ve got some very rough initial sketches so far...

Has anyone done this before....or has any ideas, I’d love to know!

Have a look at the forum post:
A Star Wars Miniatures Battles
about page 10 or so.
Pretty good inspiration and ideas on how it was done. Here's a couple of images

Thanks for that! That IS good! 8) The only thing I would change would be his colouring. I’m thinking of using an orange-y colour under the grey/white highlights. I think that might make it look like sunset on Bespin. The only other thing, is I fancy having bigger buildings. I think bins and plastic containers will probably work for that.

I'll be keeping an interested eye on this. I loved playing the Bespin battles on the old Star Wars Battlefront on my PlayStation, with all the little platforms and walkways. There was such a variety of potential choke-points and open spaces, static defences and sweeping flank attacks, packed with ideas for objectives and scenarios.

well, that is going to be interesting. :D

Only thing I'd argue against is the initial layout you posted. That's incredibly boring/repetitive. I'd split it into more smaller platforms with arches crossing over each other, etc. Add a lot more variety and visual interest (as well as better gaming options). I think you could help ensure that each sub-platform has one or two ways off to prevent people from getting too bogged down.

The initial sketch only shows the main buildings in the layout. I’m hoping to have it more like the last picture I posted. That seems to show ramps, walls, planters, fountains, steps and platforms everywhere. My other thought is to split the main circular platform into either two halves or four quarters. This would allow me to expand the large disc into a large oblong.

You know, you've made me want to do this as well now lol
I do need to get Endor and Mos Vagas (as well as Sacrif) out the way first though ::)

Looks like a cracking idea - from a purely selfish point of view, I’d rather you expanded your mega-city board so I can pinch some ideas off you, but look forward to seeing what you come up with

Not finished it yet then :D :D :D
What scale ?

This is a thread not to miss. :)

Looking forward to see where this is going!

I love gaming on circular boards, not these pushing in the corners. More action on the board. Grimm made an excellent circular board for Congo and I played a Ripper Game on the Tactica and the DoOrDice.
I think you need a 3D-Printer and Blender (I think it is freeware) to let all your ideas become real. It would help you.
The idea of the board with the CD‘s is great.
