Title: A little bit of Mordheim
Post by: Dan on September 12, 2019, 11:19:50 AM
I hope that this is not like most of my smaller projects that never really get used as I seem to go down blind alleys quite often, which I guess is fitting for this setting.  lol (Frostgrave, Necromunda, Cruel Seas, What a Tanker etc)

We had started a Club which met on Thursday nights which lasted for over a year and we played lots of smaller games that only needed an hour or two to play. Unfortunately we could not keep it going as there were only about twelve of us paying for the Hall. I had hoped that we could have kept going in our homes but that failed to eventuate. This would have been a good game to play at the Club so when a mate mentioned he was starting to get a Mordheim gang togather I jumped in.

To start with I dug out a building which I had begun to build for Frostgrave but had sat in a box for years and decided to build it instead for Mordheim. I had wrecked parts of it as I did not have enough GW windows to fit to both sides of the Hall which would have looked odd with just four.(Or so I thought at the time). I was planning to use all the odd bits that I had collected over the years and try out a few new ideas.

I have posted some photos on the Blog I have kept going for a few years so will post just a few of them here.

I had just glued the walls together after finding the unfinished building.

I had cut out a floor and scribed the floor pattern based on some images I found on the net.

That was part 1 of my Blog post and I was happy about progress.

Part 2 was about basing and finishing the building off. I have hardly touched any figures for a few weeks which is very unusual for me as I am enjoying building terrain so much at the moment. (too many Zulus I suspect).

I also had some fun using the building for other settings. First is a Pulp setting. (Those are X's not the banned German symbol which I hope is ok here?)

A German WW2 setting.

At the weekend I will add some photos of my first gang. An undead gang which is a collection of old models from various projects over the Years. I only bought one new model for that so it was a cheap project.

I did a Mordheim project a few years back when my buddy suggested he wanted to bust out his old rules and try it...

ME:
1) Order custom battlemat for Mordheim
2) Built a 4'x4' table worth of handbuilt terrain
3) Paint up several warbands.
4) Build and paint wyrdstone markers
5) Design new warband sheet and print them on awesome parchment
6) Create numerous cheat sheets including advanced rules and laminate them
7) Compile weapon cheat sheets from all of the printed material available for Mordheim
8] Begin constructing elements for all of the random encounters from that White Dwarf article...
9) Order MDF additional buildings...

HIM:
1) Pull out old busted books and some unpainted minis from 2005.

He then proceeded to beat me so many times (with a pretty cheese list - whereas I was using subpar warbands like Undead and Dwarfs) that I lost all enthusiasm to even play anymore.  Good times.

Elbows, haha hope that does not happen to me.

OSHIROmodels, thanks I thought so but just wanted to check.

I finished and posted my Undead Gang on the Blog. It is a Satirical look at our current Government so the names my not mean anything to people outside of New Zealand.

I like the ghoul union meeting. One thing you want to ensure is that your core gaming group have the same approach to gaming.

Those are some nice models.

Great thread! I love the tower, I just bought the Renedra tower so yours is a hefty dose of inspiration at just the right time. Will be watching :)

This resonated. All I can say is try introducing some other people to the game and try and get them hooked on the fluff/lore. It transforms your gaming experience when the other side of the table appreciates the aesthetic as much as you do yourself!

(I'm off to find your Mordheim thread now - sounds awesome!)

There are quite a few on the Blog of the Tower, not sure I will be taking any of it soon as I am waiting to hear as to when we can start the league games.

Thanks, the people I play with are casual gamers who like a laugh so it should be fun.

I have finished another Gang, "The Waaagh Blacks" (Black Orks). I have just started to undercoat some Goblins to add to the Gang and give me a few options.

It looks like the end of this little project as no gaming seems to happening in the foreseeable future..
However I finished some Goblins which I bought second hand from Ebay and totally repainted.

Nicely painted goblins.
