I’m sure some of you are eagerly anticipating the release of the new Judge Dredd range, so I thought I’d share the following details that I’ve unearthed about the initial wave of releases, from Wayland Games & Goblin Games who both have got pre-order pages up online...
Obviously therefore, the following info didn’t come directly from Warlord Games, although the scale of the release has since been confirmed by Warlord as being correct. No direct confirmation of the release date that Wayland are indicating.
Release date
A countdown clock on Wayland Games site suggests that the release is Midnight 28th/29th November (November had been mentioned previously, but I wasn’t aware of a specific date...tbh, I was hoping for a 1st Nov release). Just spoke to Goblin Games directly, and they suggested it could be nearer 19th November, but weren’t 100% sure.

https://www.waylandgames.co.uk/957-judge-dredd
https://www.goblingaming.co.uk/pages/search-results-page?q=Dredd
Scope of initial release
Both Wayland/Goblin agree on the following list, which has since been verified by Warlord Games.
Rulebook £25
Starter set £50
Judge Dredd £15
Street Judges £20
Arch Villains £24
Denizens of MC-1 £20
League of Fatties £20
Block Gang £20
Block Gang Reinforcements £10
Pre-order discounts
Both Wayland & Goblin Games are offering a 20% discount for pre-orders.
Interestingly, the email I had back from WG was unable to give any detail of pre-order discounts if you order direct from Warlord...responding that they don’t typically give pre-order discounts (erm...they did for the Korean War pre-order in July) ....even to the extent of suggesting that the Warlord respondee doubted it was unlikely that Warlord could match the discounts in question, and that I’d be better of ordering from Wayland/Goblin.
A curious response, and I hope one that was due to a lack of info, rather than an actual policy...not a great sales strategy.
Personally I’m pleased by the scale of the initial release...and I guess it gives me another month to save up some cash.
I do find it baffling that a company with the ambition of Warlord still struggles with its marketing strategy for what should be a high profile launch.
-
I think you may get a free figure if you order from Warlord as they have done this with other new releases.
-
Is there a firm idea of scale yet? I've been led to believe it's going to be 35mm scale, to eyes.
-

Yeah, I’d expect that would be the Death/Dredd combo, but again no confirmation. A nice sculpt but not really a gaming piece, so not a deal breaker for me. If it’s a trade off between getting them a week or so earlier from Warlord with a freebie figure, or a juicy discount from a distributor I expect I’ll go down the latter route.
Is there a firm idea of scale yet? I've been led to believe it's going to be 35mm scale, to eyes.
Nope. Have asked Warlord staff at shows and no definitive answer to that...haven’t seen them close up, just the same preview photos as everyone else.
Tbh, Mongoose & Foundry sculpts are variable in scale, so I’d expect they will fit in.
-
I would assume this uses both the scale and rules from Strontium Dog.
-
Foundry spoiled us with their range, unless WG are better I'll pass.

Hold on Red, they spoiled us and taunted us! We didn't get enough figures to make decent forces for JD or Rogue trooper. They also didn't finish the ABC warriors (although the Mongrol sculpt existed)
Have to agree they nailed the characters though. The Angel gang and Dark judges are simply awesome. As is Joe. And their various Slaines
Wish I'd bought them all now. Thanks Red, I feel sad now

Lovely paint jobs Red

Picked up the following blurry image from Warlord’s Instagram account...an upside down image taken from the cover art of the new start box set.
Presumably indicative of the Block gang.
No suggestion that they are multi-part like the very OOP plastic Gangs of MC-1...
I guess the arms/heads could be separate for a bit of variety, but then again they could be more like the metal single-piece street gang that Mongoose produced.
AFAIK all of the new releases are described as “resin” (on the Wayland Games site)...
Nice looking sculpts...but if they aren’t multipart it will probably limit me to buying only a few dozen :D
-

Nope, that's how they look in the hand, Warlord are 3d printing the new range using Waresin© their own brand of resin/plastic polymer. :D

I've got almost all of the Strontium Dog range and most of the Foundry 2000AD stuff. The WG figures are about as tall as the Foundry figures, but rather more slender in many cases. That said, the various villains have decent heft and work well with the Foundry characters.
I did an SD convention game at a small local game day in January and used both ranges for it. Worked out nicely, but the difference in style is in some cases noticeable, others less so.
The best thing about the WG range, IMHO, is that they did a lot of the more obscure characters early on and made them work well in the game environment.
-
Always been able to find suitable proxies for everything except the Judges, so will probably just focus on these.
-
as long as they keep uniforms, well, uniform... Mongoose was all over the place.
-
as long as they keep uniforms, well, uniform... Mongoose was all over the place.
Know what you mean, but my understanding is that everything is being sculpted by their “in-house” sculptor so should be consistent.
:)
-
Annoyingly, looks like we have to buy all the new figures to get the rules cards.
Sucks for those who bought the previous ranges.
-
as long as they keep uniforms, well, uniform... Mongoose was all over the place.
Why are you so needy Giraffe!!?!!
In all honesty I have so many judges I can't see me buying anymore except lawgivers, I don't mind the differences between foundry mongoose and even citadel.
-
as long as they keep uniforms, well, uniform... Mongoose was all over the place.
To be fair most of the original artwork was anything but consistant. Compare Ezquera with Dillon.
Although I agree that the aesthetic is ruined by a mishmash of sculpting styles within the same group of figures on the table top.

The item description says they are Hasbro.
Hong Kong eBay. Always fun lol

I am really looking forward to this release. Everything we have seen so far (which is very, very little) is promising. I have about 30% or so of the new SD line from WLG and I the sculpts are fantastic, the best 2000AD minis to date by a wide margin. If the JD range follows suit, I will be pleased as punch. I don't know why WLG is so shy about marketing this line and, more especially, this game. Maybe something to do with the licensing? But WLG has a very poor track record on that end recently, as regards Erehwon, SPQR, and Black Seas.
-
Think they might be from the new Osprey board game.
They are. They come ink washed like that too.
-
I saw some of the new minis from the Warlord box set this weekend. They look very good. I also saw picks of the new lawmaster and the box art, both of those looked very good as well. They match up perfectly the SD models, although the models I perused were resin not metal. I know they were tests pieces so the final models may be metal.

This is what happens when you have stuff made in China. somebody runs off a few hundred (thousand) extra and lobs them on Ebay.

Those miniatures are from the Osprey Games Judge Dredd boardgame. They are licenced miniatures. These are clearly 'extras' they had left over :?

I have heard the final product will be WLG resin (see also SPQR release) rather than metal.
-
Bummer, I would prefer metal. The minis I handled were gangers, Dredd and Anderson. They had crisp detail in resin but some of the gun muzzles were pretty thin. I always cringe when I see such fine detail that's so fragile.

Vaguely interested , still waiting on someone to do a new Nemesis... ;D
-
I'm still not convinced they'll fit that well with my existing stuff.
Has anyone actually seen the Helter Skelter in the flesh so to speak. As I'm a intrigued to why the Dredd detailing is Photoshoped onto the Dredd figure? As its not a difficult detail to CAD or Physically sculpt in the first place.
-
Hope they do a few East Meg Judges and the war robots. >:D
-
Hope they do a few East Meg Judges and the war robots. >:D
Hopefully so, given that Orlok is part of the initial wave release.
The Villains pack is a little odd in terms of composition ...why have a single dark judge...a single member of the angel gang? It works as a teaser release I guess, but as a gamer you’d want the others so will a future wave have the other 3 dark judges as a pack, or 4 figure pack which means you end up with a duplicate?
Despite this oddity, I’m pleased with the sculpts, and hope the launch is a real success, so that it leads to a healthy schedule of additional releases.
-
These are starting to look tempting, I might even go in for the block gangs even though there are numerous other figures that could stand in.
Hopefully, as others have said, East Meg will get a decent look in. I managed to get the Mongoose set just before it went tit's up, and while they're variable they do look good on the table.
Some Kleggs might be nice too, the old GW one's look more like mutant space gecko's size wise now.
-
I have nothing negative to say about these sculpts. They look even better than the "Strontium Dog" sculpts, which I really liked. I'm glad my birthday is in November because now I know where my money's going.

Seconded! :D
-
I am kind of getting excited about this on one hand but, on the other if the figures won't work with anything I have already I might be better off using my Future Wars collection as a Euro City setting. I've often looked at the old Foundry Ranges and wanted to buy them but they did not seem to have enough to game with (and the price :o).
-
Oh, Diehard miniatures produces a few good alternatives to Foundry. Not too many characters, but a few nice civilians. And here and there a Mean Machine or Anderson, along with a few civilians with Souther Helmets from the Rogue Trooper-verse.
https://diehardminiatures.com/product/gentle-bob-chaos-villain/
I'll probably use those as supporting cast.
-
Pleasant sculpts but..Those prices look like they belong in a graphic novel. :o
bernard. It's worth thaking a look at both Akula's and AndyM's threads as they both have some seriously useful and intelligent interpretations of the subject.
As for judge's its a piece of cake to convert existing figures into a unified force .These are plasic imperial guard and a converted judge Minty(great bit of fan fiction.)
Both AndyM and Akula are very good at unifying multiple sources into a cohesive look.
-
Maybe it's my mid-life crisis but the photos just make the Citadel ones form back in the day look better and better...
-
Not a fan of the Judge Death or Mean Machine mini but otherwise they all look good
-
Everything looks great! Glad to see some 2000AD minis with human proportions.
-
Has anyone seen how they scale up with previous range of figures?
-
They're 35mm, based upon the ones I've seen, and very nicely proportioned without the 'over the top-ness' of other sculpts, like the Strontium Dog ones.
-
Have they released the contents of the starter set yet?
-
Why are you so needy Giraffe!!?!!
In all honesty I have so many judges I can't see me buying anymore except lawgivers, I don't mind the differences between foundry mongoose and even citadel.
I sold my foundry judges to White Knight (I think). I have the converted Urban judges still.
-
To be fair most of the original artwork was anything but consistant. Compare Ezquera with Dillon.
Although I agree that the aesthetic is ruined by a mishmash of sculpting styles within the same group of figures on the table top.
Ezquerra didn’t draw one figure in a strip while Dillon drew everything else. Artists have styles, but are consistent within the strip and that’s what I want on the table.
-
I have the converted Urban judges still.
Groovy. Always loved those.
Grimm
-
I was hoping for a classic lawmaster, not that the pictured one looks bad. The rest look ok to me and the fact they are not being kickstarted means they should be readily available.
-
Warlords pre-order page goes live on Friday...just in case you haven’t already preordered from Wayland or another distributor in the last 4 weeks.

Yeah, that is really odd. It doesn't even make sense if they are targeting collectors not gamers as you would expect a 'judge Child set', 'The Dark Judges', 'Apocalypse war characters' etc
I really do like them though,
-
I think it's quite clever - a lot of longtime fans will have several Death and Orlok minis (OK, me), maybe even an Oola Blint. But Raider and Homer Blint? I dont think they've ever been made before. See also the judge with his helmet respirator down... that's hitting the hardcore collector where it hurts!
-
Preorders are up and WLG disappoints once again.
The only way to preorder the entire miniatures line is to also preorder the Collector's Edition rulebook, which is three times as expensive as the normal rulebook. PLUS the normal rulebook is already included in the Starter Box.
I emailed WLG and they very quickly responded, confirming that there are no plans to offer preorders without the Collector's Edition:For the period of the pre-order, the only bundles available are those with the Collector's Edition rulebook.
However, please keep an eye on the newsletter and website, as there is the possibility that other bundles may be added, although I Cannot confirm this at the present time.
Anyone who has purchased a rulebook from Warlord knows it would be totally foolish to shell out for a premium edition, considering the amount of errors they consistently send to the printers. Sometimes, important mechanics are even printed completely wrong -- such as in the recent release of SPQR.
This release has been a disaster, from the lack of communications, the fact there still isn't any detail about the game itself, and now the attempt to foist an overpriced item on the customers most likely to be excited about the product line.
The product itself may be excellent, and I like the look of the minis and I like the SD ruleset, but marketing at WLG needs an overhaul.
-
Plus, they removed the ability to pay via paypal. Which strikes me as a bit odd. :-[
I agree on the topic of the special edition rulebook though. It was the same with Konflikt 47, where you basically got 2 rulebooks, for the price of 3.

I’d agree that Warlord’s marketing strategy is pants....something I diplomatically mentioned to them about 4 weeks ago, but you can preorder the entire miniatures range without the Collectors rule book if you go to Wayland Games..... oh...and they do a 20% discount.

And you don't have to buy the gang twice.

If you guys are saying that Wayland has a better grip on how to sell product than WLG, no argument from me.

Nevermind.

There's Goblin Gaming as well.
-
And here in the US, Fantization.
Sure, they can be preordered elsewhere.
-
I think I should just order the Judges and see if they fit with my current collection. Otherwise they will stay in the painting cabinet as display models. No rush though as Wayland Games say its 41 days to release day so I might just go all in.
-

Hopefully there should be more pictures in the main rulebook too mate! ;)
Just to say too, the models are the same scale as their Dr Who and Strontium Dog lines, very tall and lanky things probably more in time with 32's than 28mm.
-
Just bought the strontium dog starter set, pretty pleased with figures even though they aren’t the chunky types I normally prefer, the dredd game is definitely something I’m going to buy
-
I also tend to like chunky metal figures (think Gripping Beast) but for 2000AD I like how WLG's minis look a bit more true to the comics.
-
Well props to WLG for relenting on the weird insistence on Collector’s Edition rulebooks in every pre-order bundle. But then again the new bundles without the CE don’t make much sense, either. Did some WL employee accidentally order too many CE rulebooks or something?
-
I notice that these models are listed as being resin. Anyone know if Warlord's resin is any good? I'm highly skeptical of many modern fad resins because they're either impossible to file/scrape for clean up (restic or similar) or very brittle, or just plain bad quality.
-
I have some of the new WLG resin figs because I bought into their SPQR line. It's kind of similar to plastic. It's not the same kind of brittle stuff you'd see from FW, for example.
Certainly nothing like Mantic's godawful restic.
-
Ive got a lot of the new warlord resin celts and Romans and really like the material.
It's a bit more elastic than other resins. Holds detail really well, and so far I've found very very few mouldlines, the only clean up normally required is to cut the small resin blobs off the end of pointy bits like spear tips.
Supposed you don't need an undercoat, but I've primed all mine before painting. The resin takes paint very well.
-
All Warlord are doing is bundle deals, the complaining is weird frankly since its effectively a "Collectors pre order deal" just wait and you can order the bits you want without the stuff you dont want.
-
I'm a collector. I want to collect the entire range. I don't want to pay three times more for a rulebook because it doesn't have art on the cover. Bad marketing deserves to be criticized. Thinking otherwise is what's weird, at least to me.
-

To be honest you just sound impatient. You'll be able to buy all the things eventually.
-
Well it's not my business to run badly. Someone can pass my apologies on to Mr Stallard.
-
I actually prefer the gaming pieces from the board game to the miniatures range. Why you ask? I like the proportions. They're good old fashioned comicbook proportions, with long legs and small heads, whereas the miniatures are more familiar … well, miniature proportions with slightly larger heads and extremities.
-
Well it's not my business to run badly. Someone can pass my apologies on to Mr Stallard.
No your literally impatient. No wargaming range (as in one that has an accompanying ruleset) is released in its entirety in a single drop. Thats counterproductive and impossible frankly.
-

What are you even on about?
The "entirety" of the range in question is actually already on pre-order. That's literally what we have been talking about. The issue is, the only way to pre-order everything is to also pre-order the overpriced version of the rulebook. This is just bad business.
Now, feel free to continue your personal attacks on me as a separate matter if that's what makes you happy.

You want everything. More things will be released after this initial wave thus making your shrieking irrelevant. Be patient.
-
One more time. The “everything” in question is “everything in the initial release.”
Understand now?
-

Yes. That still doesn't change the fact that your entire argument literally boils down to "Theres the special thing in the special deal that I don't want so its a bad deal" ignoring that you can literally NOT BUY IT NOW and buy the stuff anyway. You just have to WAIT. I mean if this was the only run sure, your point would be valid. As is you should just put your wallet down, paint some minis and come back when ecerything in particular you want is released instead of kicking off.
-
So anyway (before the thread ends up being locked) .... I’m really looking forward to the new releases, is anyone else?
lol
From the Warlord instagram account it sounds like they are considering a few terrain items.... Perp holding posts would be useful.
The initial wave of releases suggests (to me at least) that they will fill out some of the villains ...Dark Judges etc, plus Specialist Judges (otherwise why call a pack “street” judges?) and hopefully some more gangers and Citi-def.
-
I'm too used to Judge Dredd stuff being poorly managed and the various incarnations disappearing after a few months. It's tricky trying to translate good comic into good game I guess and not everyone gets it right.
-
I’m really looking forward to the new releases, is anyone else?
+1
It would be nice to get some of the characters no one has done. Alien catcher general, Filmore Faro and his Brotherhood of Trash, the Neon Knights, you could go on for ever, lol.
-

I agree completely.
From a commercial point of view, it makes perfect sense to start with “squad packs” like the street judges and block gangs. I guess you could also bundle up some of the individual characters into more Denizen/Villain packs as well, but Warlord have started with the “money in the bank” releases to contribute towards the cost of the license.
-
I am really hoping they offer some of the vehicles we have seen in some of the photos.
-
I need robots frankly, 2000AD has some really wacky designs and they haven't really translated that many to miniature.
-
I am really hoping they offer some of the vehicles we have seen in some of the photos.
In one of the many articles in the current WI there is a panel mentioning the resin vehicles that are part of the range.

I have high hopes for this range and I think Warlord Games will do it proud.

I have clubbed in with a chum and preordered
Hopefully we'll see some Sov Judges, Hondo City Judges and I'd be interested to grab some slay riders from the Cursed Earth.

yeah, saw the vehicles (or at least early versions) in august when we visited, they were very nice.
-
As there's only one AndyM and he's selfishly only made the one Dredd table.
I thought I'd start looking for items that mere mortals. Can build mega city streets and individual block floors with.
Here's a couple of cross over pieces from WooFoo Workshop on Esty. It's worth a look as there's a few more useful items including walls and interior detailing.
-
They're nice. Thanks for the heads up.
-
The dragons rest stuff prints up quite well.
I did a favour for a mate, and as a thank you, he offered to print up a few things from the range for me (I don't have a 3d printer).

I have the new WI Judge Dredd issue which looks good. I did a quick size comparison with the skip on page 61 (lower right). I used a Foundry figure and it looks comparable height wise to Mohawk Sally. The preorder is available locally so now I will have a sleepless night deciding if I should order them. lol
