I'm looking for 28mm horses, either laying down or 'recumbent' (if that's even a thing horses do?!?!?!!).
They'd be used to model dismounted cavalry skirmishing as in the pics.
Any ideas who might make some?

Try Great Escape Games Dead Man's Hand range,they have a pair of saddled horses lying down marketed as dead but may suit your needs ??? :)

In order to dismount,the object must first be mounted on something. As the object in this phrase is a horse, I wonder what the horses were mounted on that they then dismounted? I see some kind of horse on horse action here? Or maybe in some twisted Pratchetian way it's horses all the way down?
Or maybe i am reading too much into this? Looking at your pictures of human soldiers and horses perhaps it is as simple as the horses ride the humans into battle?

Dixon do a dead horse for ACW, but the kit and saddlery on it is fairly generic and can be stretched to various 18th century periods.

Hah! For once we in 15 mm (or 18 mm) folk have you Big Boy Toy set beat. Old Glory's Bluemoon War Paint range has exactly that sort of figure in the Last Stand vignette pack. Alas, they don't have a similar range in 28 mm Bluemoon - though they do have Old West figures.
I would apologize for 'crowing' a bit but I'd be lying! lol

And for true fans of western movies, the proper phrase is "Unmount." (A very large prize paid by a nameless wealthy person if you can name the actor who uttered the line. Quick, you only have 1.743 seconds. Maybe, on the prize that is.)

Interesting you showed a picture of what looks like Natal Carbineers.
Redoubt Enterprises do. A Natal Carbineers/NMP figure firing over a dead horse. In their 28mm Zulu War Range
Britannia Miniatures do US cavalry firing over dead horses in 28mm also as do OG in their 28mm Warpaint Old West Range.
If you just want the horses the other options listed above should suffice. :)

I really don’t understand the need for it. It certainly makes this place less convivial than it used to be.

It brings to mind an anecdote told by the famous actor David Niven . On the set of the film The Charge of the Light Brigade the director, who had only a passing acquaintance with the English language, bellowed through a megaphone “ Bring on the empty horses “ . 😁 At which point he and Errol Flynn collapsed ,laughing , into each other’s arms and filming had to stop .

Thank you all for the great suggestions. More than enough for me to chop around with to suit my needs.
Re: the humour, I’m all for it. What I don’t get is people who are happy to spend the time writing a couple of paragraphs for fun (which I don’t mind at all) but then can’t be bothered to offer any form of assistance whatsoever relating to the topic they’ve decided to comment on!
