Title: British Officer's Jacket Colour, 1914
Post by: Mad Lord Snapcase on September 27, 2019, 01:38:29 PM
I'm having trouble choosing the right colour paint for a British Officer's jacket, early 1914. Can anyone recommend the right colour in a Foundry triad? If not, maybe Vallejo or Army Painter?

I intend to use a wash so I assume I need a slightly lighter colour as the wash will darken it somewhat.

Thanks in advance.

I used Vallejo English uniform as a base followed by a mixture of that with green grey as a highlight for a greenish uniform or just adding khaki instead of the green for a lighter uniform.

Pattern 1912 tunic, Lieutenant, Lord Strathcona’s Horse.

English Uniform, add Khaki to lighten, and Green-Grey for final highlights.

My photo, museum collection.

Thanks, Grant, that looks like the way to then.  :)

English uniform is very dark. Try Vallejo’s British Tank Crew if you are going to further darken it. It’s a lighter version. For a greenish khaki, you might as well just use Russian Uniform. Again it’s light enough to take a dark wash.

I’ve been thinking about it overnight and Japanese Tank Uniform might also be a good colour in the mix. I’ll be at my paints in about an hour - splitting residences at the moment - and I’ll give it more thought.

No problem!

I’m lucky that I get to work with artefacts like this; every now and then I peruse the not-on-display collection to take photos for my own reference, the Instagram feed, and to keep my mind fresh on what’s in the collection.

This is post 1916 veterinary corps captain’s tunic - pips now on the shoulder, no embroidery on the cuff. Obviously slightly post-war as the ribbons are present on the breast pocket top.
