Title: Nuclear Shrimp 15mm Tecton Wraiths
Post by: zrunelord on October 03, 2019, 04:50:35 PM
Another set of great minis from Nuclear Shrimp.
They make a great set of special forces.
These were originally called Stormtroopers, if I am not mistaken.
I converted the duplicate ones ( note - easy to saw these minis with a jewellers saw BUT very easy to screw things up , so I would suggest converting only to experienced modellers. Tidied things up with milliput.) & made 2 as S.A.W. troopers.

Grey Undercoat, White zenithal, Them I painted them with a blue black ink mix.
Light drybrush with a light grey.
Tarmac bases painted with a textured paint made out of a mix of dark grey & fine marble powder. Light drybrush with a medium grey.
Went over them again , lining with fine brush & the blue black in.

Thanks for your comments.

Very nice indeed.  Those bases really make them pop.

I got some Nuclear Shrimp stuff in 28mm. Have you seen the Brutes in 15mm?

Thank you all.
Yes I have the 15mm brutes also.
I think I'm going to use them as ogryns.

I think their best ones are the Tecton brotherhood. Which I showed in another post.

Oh wow; those are something nice! 8)

Your paintjob is both subdued and standing out, if that even makes sense, and the bases really finish them off.

I'd be all over these if they were in 28mm, as they would be perfect as X-COM Power Armour. And the helmets also remind me of the Robotech Masters from the Southern Cross series...

in 28mm they don't have much in the way of Tecton forces. Knights, but that aesthetic is pretty different.

They had 28mm on their KS so I'm sure they will be available sometime...

Thanks Daeothar, :)
Glad you like them.
I understand what you're saying .
I was experimenting with an almost all ink paint job & it payed off.
They are very detailed for 15mm minis & I think what did the job is that I used a mix of blue-black ink & not a simple black wash, then a very light, light grey drybrush.

If it helps I use eye shadow makeup brushes for drybrushing, which I find are superior ( when new ) to other conventional ones.

They would be great for xcom indeed & as Dwartist said they should (must :)) bring them out. Here is the link.

I thought they were 28mm at first...nice work! The 'Rangers are nice in 15mm too.

Thanks Dwartist,
Yes the rangers are nice also.
They have roundish armour rather than the angular on the wraiths , so the paint job comes out different even if the same technique was used and they're bigger. I would count them as Heavy PA. Just noticed they have a star on the r/h shoulder pad. Have to paint those also

Agree on the makeup brushes. I have a number for that purpose. I also forget that I have them, from time to time lol.

Big guy looks good. Hopefully they will run another kickstarter at some point and I can grab some 15mm.

Welcome Deothar,
I think you can get them right now Cook.
Note they have only 3 poses but I converted mine to have around 20 unique poses 😁😁😁
Jewellers saw is your friend.

Here is another pic , painted as Ranger Corporal Stalwart.

More pics of the original & converted ones.
I wanted to convey troops dropping onto the field, i.e movement.

Thank you,
I still have more to paint & all have been converted into unique poses.
Doing action poses is a challenging but very rewarding part of the hobby.
This is a definite plus when building resin models or plastic ones for that matter but plastic wins hands down

Now I will have build their drop ships.... something like Braz's Elysium one would be splendid but I would need 2 🤔 or more to have a realistic depiction of a combat drop ( ala market garden) ..

Sometimes i wish i invested in 6mm ( which i just might in the future & they make these rangers in 6mm also, i think )  but hey 15mm is the best middle ground.

.

Will post more pics....

All painted up..... I kept the city scheme but this time I used floor tile black grouting mixed with matt varnish. Much better than mixing with water & then varnishing it.
Love these minis also 👍👍👍

Thanks dwartist,
 Glad you like them.😁
A grey scheme seemed like the natural choice for these.
Nuclear shrimp  games do make great 15 resin models , I enjoyed converting & painting them.

Here's the recipe if anyone wants to use it.

Grey undercoat , you can do a white zenithal but this doesn't have that much
of an effect.
Blue black ink wash
Wipe ink off whilst wet, this leaves ink in recesses & a tinted grey
Drybrush with different shades of grey, lightest to the top parts.
Line with the blue black ink. This takes forever & is a bit tedious.
Paint visor, star & rank markings with red , then orange highlight.
The 2 lights on top/back of head were done with a mix of canary yellow +
Flo yellow.

Bases - plastic pop offs from electrical junction boxes.
Asphalt made from floor tile black grouting mixed with
acrylic matt varnish. Sometimes it cracks as it dries so the effect
Is nice. Light drybrush to finish.

Enjoy🖖

Thanks Inso,
Why not try some 15mm yourself for a change? That's what I do , jump from one scale to another & back.

15mm squat exo armour would be very nice.

Poor eye-sight :) .

I prefer 28mm. I've done 15mm in the past (Laserburn) and still have some knocking about... but 28mm is where my heart lies :) .

Sculpting 15mm is awful :( ... I tried it and really didn't enjoy it. I felt that I couldn't put the level of detail that I wanted to, into the sculpts so I scrapped the idea.

That all said... I can bask in the aura of all the happy 15mm creators' work so that is cool  8).

Well , i'd have to agree with you there.I was missing loads of details until I got specs.
Need to get a good magnifier also.
Note laserburn are 15mm whilst the newer ones , like Gzg newer stuff are 18mm, which makes a difference, at least for me.

Sculpting in 15/18mm is indeed difficult & I admire the artists who do it well.

Bask away   :D :D :D

I try to steer clear of 15mm for the same reason - too small even with my optivisor - but great models and minis keep tempting me! I have got some 28mm wraiths on the way though and can see them painted in a similar scheme.

Can't wait to see what you do with dwartist.
Now I would like to get some also ...
And there I was saying no more 28mm !!! Resistance is futile indeed :D
Having said that I got 3 ( just 3) of their 28mm tectonic knight & they're superb.....so the wraiths will be just as good , most probably.

@Dwartist - 28mm, you say? Hmmm  o_o :)

@Zrunelord - Is there any chance you could put a 28mm miniature next to one of those 15mm Tecton Wraiths? I am having one of my creative moments :) .

Indeed Dan,
My collections seem to have a life of their own.
Storing space is becoming a serious issue  :(. And I haven't got a 3d printer yet, that's when the real problems will start.!!!!  ;D
Seriously thinking of changing to 6mm as my major scale.
The other day my wife suggested I should think about selling some off ...

HERESY!!!!!

Welcome Inso,
I'll post a pic next to a grymn, asap , so that you'll have a better idea.
You will have to do them up though, which for is no problem. You work magic with Gs, my friend.

Here you go Inso,
I think they'd be great for the job.
They only need to have the head & shoulder intakes removed & they would be perfect once you do your magic ;)

Though once you add a head you might need to do the shoulders also.
They have only 3 poses, which are shown here
Enjoy
