I recently was on holiday/vacation in Florida (from the UK) which happened to coincide with this years Hurricon in Kissimmee.
I was only able to attend for the morning & afternoon sessions on the Friday, but did get to play in two very enjoyable games.
The first was 'Retribution' - The Dutch West Indies Company has located the pirates that have caused so much trouble (The Sword in Africa rules, run by Dwight Jones)

Four players per side, with me as one of the pirates. We each had two units of troops to defend a village/stockade and our ship from the Dutch and their native allies. The Dutch forces moved quickly onto the table from two sides (apart from one unit that seemed to prefer the view from the high hill!)
I managed to throw back a native approach from the river with one unit, but took casualties doing so and retreated to the safety of the stockade. My other group moved to engage the approaching Dutch but took casualties from the exchange of fire.
JBaumal made a sterling defence of the stockade, fighting off two assaults before weight of numbers made a breakthrough at the third attempt. The rest of the pirates exchanged fire with the Dutch causing casualties on both sides.
At game end it was considered a pirate minor victory as the Dutch casualties made their position unsustainable.
In the afternoon it was 'Death above the waves' - March 1942: 39 Sqn attempts to prevent a supply convoy reaching Rommel in North Africa (Blue Sky rules, run by Jerry Bowles)

Eight Beauforts began the attack with good success against the Me110 cover on the way in, with all four eventually downed in the Med.
I managed to launch one torpedo head on, which ran underneath the lead transport only to seriously damage the following ship. My fellow pilots managed another hit on the stricken vessel and serious damage to the lead transport.
Flak from the escorting ships added to the damage on the Beauforts by the 110s, with (I think) just 3 making it back to Malta for tea and medals!. My second aircraft crashed into the sea after the pilot was hit and lost control. Another very enjoyable game,
My first (albeit brief) visit to a US Con, but something I would do again if the opportunity arose. Everyone I met was friendly and welcoming, particularly my fellow players and GMs. I met JBaumal from the forum in the Pirate game; always good to put a face to a name - Cheers Jeff
