Beautifully done and the basing really sets them off. This is a period I have been promising myself to do for 40 years, never lost the fascination for the War and it's many characters. Do you have more or is this the beginning?
-
Cheers buddy
Like you, I have put off doing the period for a number of decades, but I thought the time was finally right to take a major dive into the Crimea.
Loads of units to follow.

Superb! I am so tempted to finally do this. I'd go with Warlord plastics as my main focus is 40mm Napoleonics and I would need to keep the costs down. Your images remind me that the Crimean uniforms are sufficiently different from Napoleonic uniforms to present a fresh challenge. Please keep the pictures coming :)
-
Brilliant, I really dont need any temptation at all right now but please keep thepictures coming.
I have to wonder if the Studio Miniatures Flashman with a pepperpot pistol would make a good character for this collection? I have him in my Sikh Wars collection and the Uniform would fit for Crimea, lovely figure.
-
Lovely figures. The basing is great too. Can I ask what colours/techniques you've used on the bases?

Another inspiring project Raglan but I have always wondered about gaming the Crimea - how do you reconcile the remarkably small size of units like for example the Light Brigade - maybe only 30-odd figures at usual wargaming ratios - the individual regiments always look so small on the table.

Do like these. Not bought any cavalry yet. Who’s make are these please.

Fantastic, loving this thread.
-
With a handle like Raglan it's only proper you leapt into the Crimea madness eventually.
Crackin' good work and it's really got some momentum behind it. Are you building for a particular engagement or making a total campaign army? Are you considering doing both sides?
There are still plenty of gaps in the ranges available. I hope that with your efforts and others it might justify and inspire further expansion of the range for Great War Miniatures to include some French Chasseurs de Afrique or some turks. Aly does truly beautiful sculpts.
-
This is very inspirational work, but I have to say I'm confused by the presence of the "95th Rifles" in a thread on the Crimean War, as that regiment was disbanded shortly after the end of the Napoleonic Wars, and formed the basis of the new Rifle Brigade, which indeed took part in the Crimean War, and is presumably what is represented here. The new 95th Regt. which also served in the Crimea, was not a rifle regiment.
P.S. It occurs to me that this is a mistake the original Lord Raglan might well have made, understandably in view of his advanced years, along with referring to the Russians as French. There's nothing wrong with getting into character.
-
It was the same regiment though buddy and everybody knows them as the 95th
-
I was clearly mistaken about you being in character. Raglan didn't call people buddy, to the best of my knowledge.
-
Nice Sutherland. When doing socks was red or white your first colour used.
I’ve hated painting socks finished Cameron, just started Black Watch.

Yep, I am more friendly and hopefully less of a pompous arse ;)

Just lovely, well done sir! It's been calling me for decades, and I've started now....

Wonderful figures. Lovely lovely colours.

All the more impressive, my Lord, as you have - presumably - kept completely in character and painted them using only one hand?

What are your sources for Russian uniforms matey? The British are well covered, but accurate painting detail for Ivan is a bit thinner on the ground.
Thanks
Steve

Nice work!! :)

I can't find much in the way for the Russians, which makes them pretty straightforward to paint.
This is about as good as it gets:

For uniform and organizational details, you should certainly start with Viskovatov. Mark Conrad provides a great translation at:

Are you having any artillery with your British.
Interested as not added any to mine yet.
