With the Centurion at prototype stage I've started on the next: PT-76
-
Now with Gun
-
Excellent.
-
I like the look of the PT-76.
Look forward to seeing it printed.
-
It'll certainly be cheaper than the 1/48th Tank-Mania one. :P

And a lot more realistic than the 1/50 Solido one. :)
There was a Spanish company that made one in 1/50 (Combat Company?)but IIRC they went tits up. I think Rich’s version will be much nicer, judging by the previous vehicles in the range.
-
Hopefully :D Progress
-
Read deck details
-
Currently trying to work out if the grills shoudl be recessed (As I have them here) or flush... details are sketchy...
-
Definitely recessed as seen in the top photo.
Of if you want to do one of the PT-76s that attcked the Ben Het Special Forces camp then you can 'recess' pretty much the entire engine deck. :D
-
Here's a good site with plenty of detailed views:
https://thesovietarmourblog.blogspot.com/2018/02/pt-76.html
You might want to think about doing an alternate, early barrel as an option, PT-76's don't seen to have carried much external stowage anyway apart from the occasional photo of fuel drums and the snorkel of course. Very much in the minority but there are photos showing the earlier production models in Vietnam with the straight barrel and slotted muzzle brake.
-
Thanks
Both barrels was the plan ;)

nice start indeed how often were they encountered in Vietnam?
-
No clue... apparently enough to warrant making them lol
-
By the Americans? Only a handful of occasions, most notably the successful attack on the Lang Vei Special Forces camp and the less successful one at Ben Het. The latter saw the only recorded tank v tank combat by the Americans. An M-48 destroyed one in the night action.
A number of other occasions where they were sighted and sometimes engaged by air assets.
Of course, they saw quite a lot of action against the ARVN in Cambodia, then during the 1972 Easter Offensive and again in 1975.
-
Thanks Carlos
Things still to do:
Headlamps
Some bolts/rivets along the track guards
Snorkel
clips/blocks on the hull (mostly becaue they break up the big empty spaces!)
Check the tracks details
Spare track links
Thats it I think...
For the future:
BTR-50 version
-
A BTR-50? Now we talking!
-
It's the same hull with an roof extension.
Shouldn't be too hard... But not yet, I've got other (Small but fiddly) things to do first.
-
Cool.

OK have to do some reading then.

OK have to do some reading then.
At SELWG I found a copy of the Osprey Vanguard (and I mean Vanguard not NVG) 42 Armour of the Vietnam War which has a small section on NVA armour.
Intrigue, be advised: one of our generators just blew down the bunker door!
-
Just the track profiles to check and spare links to make (cut/paste!) now!
Pics later.
Next project starting very soon...
-
Done! Print tomorrow hopefully...
-
Looks great.
Hope the print turns out.
Can't wait to purchase a few.
-
Print failed and didn't have time yesterday to clean it out - I'll try again this afternoon.
-
OK now got a turret, both guns a hatch and one track printed out. The other track annoyingly failed.
Hull will be in one piece and will totally fill the build plate... not 100% sur it'll work as is, might need the mudguards cutting off and adding to the tracks to reduce the width.
-
Chassis was stil printing when I left for work this morning... looked OK o_o
-
very full bed!

Even managed to print the forgotten centurion exhausts under it!

Always fascinating to see the gubbins of the manufacturing end of things. Bit like looking under the hood of a modern car. You might have a vague grasp of how it works in an abstract and conceptual sense but no real idea of how it actually does work but it’s still satisfying to look under the bonnet. The blue bits in your otherwise shiny, shiny, black resin. Are those just reflections from the bed?
Anyway it looks pretty bloody good. I’m always impressed with the way you manage to print stuff with a minimum of little ridges.
-
Looking very good. My printer often looks like that ,too.
-
It's the first time I've tried nesting prints like that - but it won't be the last! I can get loads of fiddly bits under the hulls I reckon without compromising the supports too much.
-
tracks

I like the look.
Well done.

I agree.
-
Test assembly
It's a big bigger!
-
Looks terrific. I don't need one, but I want one..
-
Looks great and I want some and not just for Vietnam.

Me as well.

Looking really good!

Few minor tweaks and it's reprinted ready for Empress :)
