Thanks for sharing that one. The British need to use fire and movement, plus the very useful 2" mortar to lay down smoke, so they can take on the German fire-power. But it's a cracking set of rules, and if you are anything like me, you will find yourself building a range of platoons.

If I can make one recommendation, get hold of one of the TFL Pint Sized Campaigns, and play it through. It adds so much to the experience rather than a one-off game.

Thanks gents, we need a couple more games to let it all sink in but will definately look at that advice. We did have a 2 inch mortar but it proved prety ineffective as it turned out.

Took me 2 years to get the basics right and another 3 to get the tactics!  lol
When you have had 6-10 games you should read Richs Tactical Primer
Oh and 2" mortars were pretty useless in Rl so don't feel too bad  ;)

They were rubbish for sending High Explosive, but brilliant for putting down smoke and blocking LOS for all those MG42s  ;)  Any British player who isn't blanketing enemy positions with smoke to allow manoeuvre, needs to go back to his tactical primer.

They ar eonly good for smoke in the game not in RL Doug
All the reports i read that anything less than a 4.2" mortar battery did not put down enough smoke to block LOS - at best a bit of obscuring
Have a read of this -
We couldn’t use proper fire-power as they were right in front of us. I got as many 2-inch [mortars] to fire smoke at extreme range to take them safely forward. But it takes a long time for 2-inch smoke to form a decent cloud, but that was all we could do.

So i don't think one would do much unless it landed directly on the MG-42  >:D

Interesting. There are videos online showing 2" smoke bomb effects, and I was impressed. I think it was in a training video with carriers. I wish I had bookmarked it.

To be fair the Paras were trying to cover a company frontage....as I said if you landed one perfectly in front of a single MG-42 it might work to block LOS but they had many MG-42's unfortunately for the Black Watch  :'(
