Title: 1813 Prussians (Calpe minis!)
Post by: Battle Brush Sigur on December 11, 2019, 12:02:07 PM
Heyhey,

I'm currently working out a recipe for painting 28mm Prussians. The minis I got here are by Calpe. It's th first time I'm working with their minis, but they look really, really nice.

So here's the first bunch of minis, 3rd infantry regiment (2nd East Prussian) Fusiliers:

Hope you like them!

Oh yes, very pretty indeed. There are some tiny niggles I have (like the ones I got here sometimes got just holes where buttons should be, and the eyes only being holes). On the other hand - The important buttons are all there, and the eyes look actually better as dark holes underneath those shako visors.

Very well done, neat painting! Your brush managed to catch even the tiniest detail on them! Excellent color palette!  :-*

@DintheDin: As always, many thanks for the comment. :) The blue on the coats led to some raised eyebrows on behalf of some people on the internet. Compared to what I'm used to painting (French and Austrians, sometimes Russians) the Fusiliers looked so incredibly dark that I just didn't have the heart to go with darker blue on the coats. Next up are some Landwehr and Musketeers, along with an officer. Let's see how they turn out!

Lovely painting Sigur!  I guess the backstory is they are using captured French muskets, with white musket straps instead of the Prussian red-tan leather? (Easily fixed!)  ;)

@Greystreak: Well, crap.... :D ONE thing I go ahead on and 'just assume'. I guess I deserved that. Dang those Prussians and their inability to create a pleasant colour scheme for their army!

@bluewillow: Thanks very much, Matt!

@OSHIROmodels: Once again - thank you!

Here's a quick WIP shot of the Landwehr and line musketeer dudes:

(https://www.tabletopwelt.de/uploads/monthly_2019_12/wip2.jpg.4845b01814883f316adb8411b0b6c428.jpg)

Now excuse me while I fix the musket straps.. :D

Heyhey, peeps. I have not fixed the musket straps yet. However, I painted other detail stuff!

(https://www.tabletopwelt.de/uploads/monthly_2019_12/wip3.jpg.44f9a8d8a33c1a72ecb02f9d07051a2f.jpg)

So the musketeers (front) are mostly done. The Landwehr infantry in the back still needs some more work, but I hope to finish them tomorrow as well.

After that there's still the Jägers left to do (whom I haven't even researched yet, so those will take a bit longer) and the officer on horseback. I better get all of those done quickly, because there's another batch of those guys coming up in a few weeks and in between I have to finish Polish lances and a whole bunch of Gretchins!

Hope you like them so far.

Done and done!

Phew. 10th Silesian Landwehr, 3rd Line Infantry (2nd East Prussian), plus a detachment of volunteer Jägers.

That's been quite a marathon the past few days, but they're finished and I can close shop for christmas. To paint my own stuff. This is my life, I guess. :D There'll be close-up photos as well in a few days!

Anyway, hope you like the chaps!

@DintheDin: Thzanks very much! :) Yeah, about those close-ups... somehow they didn't really happen because my camera lense broke and taking pictures became quite a chore. I'm also to add more figures to that force (which I'm currently working on). Once those are done I'll get some proper nice photos though!

@Bloggard: Thanks, Sir! :)

Right, update on these new Prussians: 12x line musketeers, 4 fusiliers to up to existing unit to 12, and 8 Landwehr cavalry from Silesia.

(https://www.tabletopwelt.de/uploads/monthly_2020_02/wip1.jpg.6e805119b4a42bef30041bd2a67fe4ac.jpg)

Hope you have an excellent weekend!

Then possibly some close ups  :)
Title: Re: 1813 Prussians (Calpe minis!)
Post by: Battle Brush Sigur on February 10, 2020, 04:20:19 PM
@DintheDin: Cheers! Yup, I'll post some more proper photos then. :) Now that I got a new lense. I'll never take autofocus for granted again. :D

Heyhey. I was reasonably good this weekend.

Here's the state of affairs on these Prussians:

(https://www.tabletopwelt.de/uploads/monthly_2020_02/wip2.jpg.4e89d6cb824dc783e17e06f7055aa0a1.jpg)

Still need a good bit of finalization, but I'll do that on all of theminis from that batch at once in the end (along with the basing). For now I started work on 8 Polish lancers who also are part of this batch. I gave it some thought and decided to be boring and just do the 3rd Lancers again. More on these later (when they're more presentable).

Hope you like them so far! I'm aware that they look rather dreary right now; basing usually fixes that :)

I find that as sculpts thy have very natural motion and under your brush they have taken life!
Photos showing your job are never enough!  lol

Terrific job on those.
Title: Re: 1813 Prussians (Calpe minis!)
Post by: Battle Brush Sigur on February 12, 2020, 12:37:36 AM
@DintheDin: Cheers! Yeah, well, it's Calpe figures. They're just good. :D

@SABOT: Thanks very much. Just wait until they're all proper done and based.

Heyhey. Yesterday after a few hours I just couldn't bring myself to paint any more Prussians any more. So I sat down and made 9 more lengths of "all-purpose-28mm-fence" to add to the 10 I did in 2015.

(https://www.tabletopwelt.de/uploads/monthly_2020_02/fencesNEW2020.jpg.aee670edff9a5f8cc907f0d24f418226.jpg)

Since I got hat out my system I went back to doing what I'm supposed to do today. Part of the batch of Prussians is a unit of Polish lancers (not sure why, but I don't ask questions. Apart individual wishes concerning style and 'level' of painting, basing, etc. :P ).

(https://www.tabletopwelt.de/uploads/monthly_2020_02/wip3.jpg.c89aff84d8d32bf90dd11dca07eb0cd7.jpg)

I'll do the 3rd regiment, because I really like the uniforms on those. Not the most simple, but very pretty. Not the least becuause they're ratehr similar in look to the 1st lancers of the imperial guard.

Right, that's that. I hope that you like'em so far. Hope to have them done soon. No basing on the lancers as these will be part of an existing collection and the gentleman asked to base them himself.

Superb painting of beautiful figures.  Now wondering if I need yet another SP2 project...
Title: Re: 1813 Prussians (Calpe minis!)
Post by: Battle Brush Sigur on February 12, 2020, 01:30:26 AM
@abi iskander: In this case I'm entirely sure that these are not for SP2! However, if I ever find the time and still am in the mood for Napoleonics then - since the beginning of the year I've been plotting 1809 things for SP2. I'm basically just waiting for the other guys to get going and for a few figures to arrive.. :D

Great stuff.

Calpe make some really nice miniatures to which you have fully done justice with your brushwork.

@Plutarch64: Thanks very much. :) For more nice photos check out the Calpe and Front rank galleries. Those helped me a fair amount.

@Muzfish4: Thanks for the kind words! I really dig these sculpts. Especially those with the round faces and deep-set eyes. Those are really nice sculpts to paint.

Right, Prussians done.

The Landwehr cavalry don't have their lances yet. Not only because it's historically plausible, but also because I've run out of lances. :P More photos once I get resupplied.

Those Polish lancers are finished as well, by the way. WITH lances too! Hooray. Now I better rush on to the next looming deadline whilst hoping that the finished Prussians are well received. Hope you like them too!

@DintheDin: Yus! Thanks. :)

Right, it's Monday! What have we been up to this weekend?

I spent Valentine's eve by playing the 5th campaign game of our Longstreet campaign:

Report should be up soon...ish on Tabletop Stories.

Saturday night I played some boardgames. Sheriff of Nottingham (supergood fun), Dominion (good, as always), Munchkin (fun, as always)

But now let's get to why we're here. I also finished the Prussians (by adding lances to the Landwehr cavalry) and their Polish pals.

@DintheDin: Very good. :D Thanks very much!

@Bloggard: Thanks for the very nice compliment. :)

@SABOT: Thankee, Sir.

The figures are off home now. Next: Russian Guard Cavalry, De Wattville's regiment, Russian officers. That'll be in different thread(s) though. Oh, and eventually I might find time to work on my own Austrians for a bit. :D
