Well, it's nearly that time again and I have to make a start (or a continuation) of the Salute board that's planned. 15mm big battles in the shadow of a castle.
It'll be around 7x5 (or 6x4) to allow space for cards around the edge and other paraphernalia.
Here's what I've got so far. I'll need a few more units of course and a few more building bases but the big thing will be a castle in the corner including a tenshu (currently being mastered). The Sanada clan (red) were painted by RJ and the Honda (black and white) by ADC painting. The little base of ronin and commander were painted by me. I can't afford for more to be painted by others though :?
Not much time left :o lol

Yeah, you're gonna need a lot more figures! Best get started lol

Have you seen the sarrisa castle? Not sure if they do it in 15mm though ;) ;D

Ooh, I would never have dared!
I thought it looked very flat, which I suppose is a limitation of the medium. I much prefer my Oshiro resin buildings.
-
Looks great.
What rules will you be using?
-
Thanks chaps :)
What rules will you be using?
Wiley Games Big Battle rules (proper title as yet undecided). There will be a report or two here before the big day and the game on the day is participation, with Mr Wiley himself in charge :D

It looks to be based on Hirosaki-jo, which actually burnt down mid 17th century and the one that's there now was reconstructed in 1811 or so. Still, the roof and proportions are totally wrong though (even though the time frame is completely out). Some people like it, others don't. I don't lol
-
Little photo of the town/village buildings that need to be finished. I'll also be making a few more samurai house compounds.

Superb!

Cheers mate :)
Finished the first new building base off (it’s the one on the left in the wip photo above). Couldn’t remember the bloody ground colours though lol
Last photos are of it next to an original base.

Very nice textures, details and colours. All the best. Only about 94 days to go - get cracking! lol

Looks absolutely superb! :-*

Your terrain is lovely. It always impresses with the attention to little details. I love the well in the back of the one block of houses
-
Many thanks chaps :)

Apart from you lol

Amazing, a visual treat. Your games must be big fun to play in!

Thanks chaps :)
Another building base on the way. This will be a small village set away from the castle and town. The white strips will be a field that’ll make more sense when it’s complete.

Fun is the most important part of the games we play (along with the look of it :) ).

:-* :-* :-* Impressive layout!!!!!!!!! Keep up the good work!
-
Thanks :)
It’s done now. A bit more raggedy than the normal building bases. I’ll be moving into some samurai house enclosures next.

Amazing work James! Wowsah! :o
-
Great idea for the garden; I am so nicking that.
-
Lovely. How do you store/transport these?
-
Amazing work, as always! Only yesterday, I had the opportunity to participate in a club member's samurai variant (mainly units and unit stats) of By Fire and Sword which was fought around 15mm Oshiro scenery.
By the way, what scatter material did you use for the weeds or vegetation around the houses? It looks rather leafy!

I was wondering the exact same thing. I've seen it used in your Cartel a Go Go terrain as well James.
-
Thank chaps :)

No idea yet, they’re just sitting on any available shelf space lol Probably in Really Useful Boxes though.

It’s just an amalgamation of stuff I’ve collected over the years. I’ve got varying grades and colours but as to what’s in them (brand names etc) I haven’t got a clue.

Got a Honda archer unit finished (minus command as several command figures will be done at the same time). I'm thinking to keep it simple then ashigaru units will be six bases, samurai foot four bases and samurai cavalry three bases (with relevant traits to make them a bit harder to kill). I'll have to have a word with the good Baron as to how overall command could be used given that a lot of samurai commanders sat in their maku enclosure :?

Thanks :)
Still a long way to go lol

Got a few more bases done but there's still only two Honda units so far...

Both figures and terrain looking terrific.
Any other insights into the rules, please?
-
Looks great 8)
What’s a Honda? :o

Thanks :)

Not much at the moment, it uses the FFoL engine and hopefully I’ll be having a play test game soon.
What’s a Honda? :o
Honda Tadakatsu was a famous general in the Sengoku period and is a reasonable foe to put against Sanada Yukimura. Honda is the family name.
-
Ah I see, thank you 8)
-
More first class work on terrain and minis 8)
-
Got another building base done. I need a t-junction and when that's done I'll show them all together :)
I'll be starting to design the castle layout later this week... Not long to go now :o
