We are planning the Muskets & Tomahawks II Nickstarter pre-order campaign right now.
If you don't know what a Nickstarter is, it's a silly name for taking Pre-orders. But we add elements of Kickstarter into it, so the more that is spent, the more Spend Goal Rewards it releases. In this case they will be unique miniatures.
I'll put a reply on here when we launch, hopefully next week.
I'm giving all our newsletter subscribers a little 'Early Bird' bonus. If you're not a subscriber, and are interested in getting M&T II, you can join up here: https://us5.list-manage.com/subscribe?u=addf114e407ae6b960460a70e&id=03fee180e2 (https://us5.list-manage.com/subscribe?u=addf114e407ae6b960460a70e&id=03fee180e2)
Cheers

Will there be a figures only pledge as I don't game, only paint and collect.
-
No.
But, all the figures will be at a Nickstarter special price, so it'll be worth buying in at the time.
-
Sounds good.
Mark
-
Looking forward to seeing the updated rules.
My only request/hope is for a better quality set of activation cards, printed on poker sized cards, if that's still going to be to main activation method for the game.
-
The cards will be better. The original set were from a regular printer, Studio Tomahawk have got the version II set from a card manufacturer.
-
It's started!!

Likewise +1.
Shame as I might be interested.

I just got the NS newsletter with a link to the Nickstarter, which worked for me. Not sure if it will work if i post it here (or even if I should) but will do what I deem the decent thing:

Sorry folks, I'll start again.
IT'S STARTED

-
Very good, that's me in.
-
Also in. Can we get a little more details on a couple aspects of the campaign - what material are the tokens made from, and whats in the Redcoats & Tomahawks book that makes it a seperate supplement?
I'm a little worried about M&T being expanded to cover two centuries worth of conflicts on multiple continents, when it worked so well for le petite guerre in North American in the mid to late 18th century.
-

That is how they do all their rules now. A core book and then a second supplement for a period specific set of army lists. That way the core rules are cheap and you only buy the period book you want
-
I'm in - and starting an FIW winter collection.
-
The tokens aren't here yet, but I believe they are thick printed card, like the Saga counters and measuring sticks. Congo, the other Studio Tomahawk game, has similar as well.
Redcoats and Tomahawks has the army lists in for F&IW, AWI and War of 1812. There are no army lists in the main rulebook. Like Saga II.
-
Nick, will the era supplements be released in chronological order?
-
I don't think that's the plan. The next one is Napoleonics, which comes next I'm not sure about but the plan is for a Colonial book and an ACW book.
-
Hello Nick, are the french and english armies equal in points ?
I've noticed that the english army is not the same between level 6 and level 5/4, any reasons ?
-
Hi
Yes, both armies are just over 300 points. That's the minimum you need to play, and classed a skirmish force in the rules.
I'll check the British armies, cheers
Nick
-
The Nickstarter has gone bonkers. All three Spend Goals have been hit. That's free figures all round folks lol

Will Beaujeu and Tanaghrisson be available for sale or will only the backers receive them?
Mark
-
Studio Tomahawk commissioned them just for the Nickstarter, they'll never be for sale. They might appear in a future promotion, but probably not.
Mike Owen has also designed some Nickstarter only figures, they are in place for future Spend Goals.
-
I'm so glad I backed this Nickstarter. I had thought of just buying the rules and supplement.

I can't back the Nickstarter at this time.Oh well perhaps some will end up on ebay. :(
-
How many figures per unit in this game?
-
The number of figures per unit varies.
You need a minimum 4 Indians, a minimum 6 Irregulars and a minimum 8 Regulars. But you can add to them, usually upto 12 figures.
-
Well, I bit the bait and ordered a few models from the Nickstarter, mostly to complete certain gaps in my collection. So far I have painted 42 Iroquois and 12 Compagnies Franches de la Marine (Conquest Miniatures, now Warlord), 24 Provincials from the Virginia Regiment (Eureka Miniatures) and 12 British regulars and one officer (Galloping Major Miniatures, which tower over the other two ranges, but who cares). I have another 12 Provincials, 8 rangers and 8 British Regulars (all Galloping Major) in the pipeline; also I can increase my Compagnies Franches de la Marine with another 12 models (leftovers from the Warlord box). And now I have ordered in the Nickstarter 6 Highlander Lights (now I realize that I should have ordered 2 packs, as regulars are 8/12 models!), the 2 codes for Canadian Militias, and one blister of those British regulars in campaign look (a love at first sight!)
-
I haven’t git many d10, so I would be grateful if anyone could advice how many d10 dice will be needed for the game, 1 for each miniature, ie the maximum number equals the number of miniatures in your biggest unit?
-
It's a dice per figure. I'd advise 12 dice?
-
So, 12 per side=24?
-
Depending on the size or your dice (irregardless of what-siders they are), we often roll some combination twice, that arrives at the total dice needed to cast.
With M&T vI, 6 dice per side was fine, and then we just determined a combo to cast for the total stands involved in the fighting (using the same 6 dice to divi up for the total). We also use a dice tray, especially when playing on a full-board, fur-style mat.
I actually think players enjoy rolling two sets amounting to the total required (gives them 'another chance' to cast a better hand on their second throw around).
-
We've hit the 4th Spend Goal in our Nickstarter Campaign. The chaps over at Cigar Box Battles have kindly donated one of their superb terrain mats as a prize, the one most suitable for the French & Indian War.
We'll be picking the winner in a prize draw tomorrow morning.

I'm sure you've been asked the question a zillion times before, so apologies in advance for asking again but is there a chance the previous Muskets and Tomahawks figures sculpted by Mike Owen will become available again under the North Star banner ? I missed them the first time around and I'm now sorry I did. The French set is the one I'm interested in :

Badger games in the US is meant to have bought all of the old range but they have yet to do anything with them. I haven't seen them announce anything or list them on the site.
-
That's right, all the moulds are in the possession of our chums at Badger Games.

Black Hussar do FIW French in a similar style to those IMHO

Nah, I wouldn't buy those Black Hussar figures mate, they are totally rubbish IMHO.
8) ;)

Had a look at their website and couldn't find the miniatures there either. Perhaps the imminent release of M&T mk II will encourage Badger Games to re-issue the figures : one can only hope.
Cheers for the answer Nick. The Black Hussar sculpts are very nice but since I've just ordered some of the Nickstarter F&W packs, I want the older set as well for the sake of consistency so that all the miniatures are Mike Owen's work.
-
I was only being silly about Black Hussar.
I will give Badger a prod. They will no doubt be taking Muskets & Tomahawks from me (I'm the exclusive distributor of the English language version, I bought the lot) so it'd be daft of them not to get the original figures out there.
-
À tous nos clients francophones : nous pouvons vous vendre une version de Muskets & Tomahawks en français plutôt qu’en anglais !! Passez votre commande normalement et envoyez nous un message précisant que vous désirez la version française et on s’en occupera ! Merci !
-
Is it possible to add packs to an existing order (to give some extra push to teaching the goals)?
-
Yes. Just drop us an email. mailorder@northstarfigures.com

We've hit the next Spend Goal!
(Kev hasn't updated it yet!)
That means 3 free unique figures for everyone!!
Here's the 3rd figure, painted by Andrew Taylor.

Nice Figure.
Mark
-
Hi Nick,
Are there plans to produce figures in Winter clothing and snowshoes?
Thanks,
Andy
-
Here's the 3rd figure, painted by Andrew Taylor.
Is that the Andrew Taylor who used to live in Coventry?
If yes I would just like to say, 'Hello' (lost touch some years ago)
I have come across several Andrew Taylors over the years.
It seems that if your name is Andrew Taylor the ability to paint very well
comes with the name. I am sorely tempted to change my name,
just to see if it would work for me.
-
Hi Andy
Probably not. We want to make figures for 1812 before going back to the F&IW, and Mike wants to do Provincials and Militia first.

Thanks Nick. That's great news about a range of figures for 1812,a very much neglected period, which has so much to offer.
Thanks,
Andy

War of 1812. Those are great news. Looking forward. :)

Same here :)

The next spend goal is a Prize Draw to win a painted version of the Indian King Tanacharison. This is the model that everyone is getting free, so the winner gets a casting and a painted version.
The model is being painted by our very Kevin Dallimore right now, picture to follow soon.
-
Just a reminder, the Nickstarter ends this Friday night. Don't leave it to the weekend to join in!!

Hope to get the books soon. So it is ok to end tomorrow, I am in... :D
-
Hi Folks.
If we hit the next Spend Goal in the Nickstarter, there will be a prize draw to win this Kevin Dallimore painted Indian Chief.
If we don't get to the next Spend Goal, I keep it for myself. lol
You can join in here: http://nstarmagazine.com/MUSKETS_AND_TOMAHAWKS_II.htm (http://nstarmagazine.com/MUSKETS_AND_TOMAHAWKS_II.htm)
-
The last spend goal has been hit. I can't keep the Indian Chief to myself.
The Nickstarter ends tonight at Midnight GMT.
The prize draw for the Indian Chief will be at 9am Monday morning, the winner will be notified by email.
Don't forget to join in! http://nstarmagazine.com/MUSKETS_AND_TOMAHAWKS_II.htm (http://nstarmagazine.com/MUSKETS_AND_TOMAHAWKS_II.htm)

The Nickstarter is finished now. Massive thank you to everyone who got involved.
We don't have everything ready to ship right now, I haven't even seen the cards and tokens yet for example, but I think everything will be in hand to get your orders to you by Mid-March at the latest.
Now we just need to start playing!
-
Nick,
Thanks for the shipping projection (our group is beginning to organize the eras we'll collect/present in anticipation of getting heavily engaged).
-
Thanks for the update Nick!
I am really looking forward to this game. First time in my wargaming life I already have painted the models needed to play!

Is one allowed to do that? Don't you need to buy more then? lol
-
We are releasing Muskets & Tomahawks II from the 11th of March.
It's going to take us a while to get all the Nickstarter orders packed up, but expect your package anytime after the 11th.

Good news. :)
Any updates regarding the war of 1812 figures?
-
Mike Owen is working on them now.
-
Lovely. :D
Thank you for the update Nick.
-
I'm pleased to say my M&T stuff is on its way. Good communication from North Star.
-
Yay. Got my dispatch notice today. Super excited and can't wait to see the new rule book (I really must get out more).
-
Mine arrived yesterday. Very nice, and I'm pretty positive about all the changes from v1.
-
Woohoo! Mail call and my Nickstarter has arrived from NorthStar
Going to need google translate for the counters lol but other than that I'm very pleased.
Two photos of figures I've painted in the main rules and a very nice acknowledgement from Studio Tomahawk
-
Heres my stuff, dead chuffed :)

Give me a break I haven't taken the cellophane off yet lol

lol
Great painting work, sir. The rulebook looks really good!

Nice one, chap :)

-
Jeff, great looking figs, and they're immortalized now!
-
A question for Nick - if I ordered my Nickstarter (rules, scenario book, cards & tokens) through Brigade Games, with the package becoming from the UK or the US?
I am in Mobile, Alabama.
Thanks,
Graham Wilkinson
-
The counters are in English on the other side ;)
Having the counters in French is a bonus for me - I can show them at the school club (whenever we may meet again) as proof that the game is educational.
I briefly considered ordering the rule book in French (but I think I will see if the school library can be persuaded on that one)
-
Hi Graham
From Lon in the US.
Nick
-
Cheers Nick.
Talked to Lon and the boxes have arrived in New Jersey :D
-
Going to need google translate for the counters lol but other than that I'm very pleased.

They made a welsh edition for you, Jeff? Know I really know that I know a famous Wargamer, Sir Jeff. :o I think they need a second or third parcel, because the welsh counters will be double or three times wider than the normal ones... :D
-
I got my shipping notice from Lon. I'll have M&T2 in my hands Tuesday hopefully!
-
Mine arrived today from Lon, well packaged and after a wipe down I will break open the wrapping and start reading 👍
-
Yes the package is perfect. Mine arrived broken but the bubble wrap bag resisted very well!
And the book is really, really good!
-
Got mine in Australia - lovely rule book, can't wait to play it.
BUT the Redcoats and Tomahawks book is ridiculously flimsy. I get the decision to go with softcover, but it is less durable then your average wargaming magazine! Already mone is a little dog eared. Disappointing in such an otherwise high quality production
-

Mysgedau a tomahawk, doesn't roll off the tongue does it Dirk lol
-
Jeff, I had “yr hen ddyn” and “Mae Dafydd wedi cymryd modur Rhiannon” in Mind. So the markers would become very big... ;)
-
Mine arrived from Lon as well, very nice job on the packaging.
I see what Craigjwoodfield means. The cover of the supplements seems to be essentially the same weight paper as the interior pages. A clear report cover might be in order to keep this from getting too dog eared.
-
Finally got mine, Im excited
