So I went all fanboy on Nozza_uk's Star Trek Shuttle Post and ordered a shuttle from https://www.proteus3dmodelling.com/ (https://www.proteus3dmodelling.com/).
It is a very cool piece. I am posting progress on my blog. I am very happy with the service from Proteus and the quality from 2nd dynasty.

If anyone has questions about the model let me know. I can post pictures of each part on request.

Thanks for the replies.

That Chimera looks huge. It would be nice but I have no space for one.
I have test painted the nacelles and engine bells. I was testing the modelling masking tape as much as the paintjob itself. I am pretty happy with it. The only thing I really need to do is pick up a new pot of white paint that closer matches the base primer. Once the rest of the exterior is finished it will get a treatment of chipping and several treatments of oils and powders.

Oh! That's going to look fine!
I'm getting a distinct Chris Foss feeling from that paint job; can't wait to see the finished result... 8)

This.
Should be enormous with a planet hanging over it for maximum Foss effect.
Really nice start. What's the front cockpit like?

Thanks for the comps.

Really clean print there! Also the paint scheme is giving lots of Gerry Anderson vibes.
-
Base paint on the bottom is pretty much done. Just some minor touchups to go. I will do all weathering once the top is painted.

Looks pretty swish; I am digging the colour scheme.
Are you planning on a fairly colourful look at the end or will it be dulled down by the weathering?

Thanks for looking. The plan is to make this a workhorse so it will be reasonably dirty chipped and weathered.
I had time to base coat and mask the top today.

Looks cool, can't wait to see it weathered.

I have started working on the interior. I am working with a new colour pallet and still have touch ups to do.

Nice choice of colour.
Out of interest is there a story behind the shuttle...did you just pick colours and logos you liked or does it have a backstory?

No story. My inspiration for the paint came from the old 70s Sci-fy spaceship paintings from Chris Foss or Peter Ellison. The design on the tails came from two different shaped punches that I used with masking tape. I do not have a big catalogue of decals so I needed a design that I could reproduce easily.
Punches are similar to these.

That's cool...the last one seems very appropriate :D

Great looking model.

Awesome still. What is the red base colour?
-
Thanks for the comps all.
What is the red base colour?
Gold acrylic spray paint "Blood Orange" number 2095 painted over white primer. It comes off slightly stronger red than the current GW Wild Rider Red. I picked my can at Hobby Craft for seven pounds. I have never looked for it when I lived in the States so it may only be here in the UK.
-
Cheers for that, it does scream Thunderbird 3 to me so I'm off to Hobbycraft to pick some up for Moongrunt!
-
What did you use for that interior 'mint choc-chip ice cream' kind of green? Looks really good.
-
Fan-tastic!

I must go into my local rebranded shop and ask for some ^__^

I will add some photos of it on the table once it is in a game. More photos on my blog if you are interested.

That's definitely taken the shine off, looks cool!
-
Yes, it looks like it has seen some action now (but is ready for more!). Excellent!
-
Sorry for raising this thread from the dead.
I have a good scale shot for the shuttle with a Valkyrie.

:o :-* That’s superb!
-
I really need to paint mine up. Is it bad that i want to print a second one?
-
Why stop at two? I bought the full fleet back from 2ndD and I want more than one of each! But I am bonkers.
I'd love to see a shuttle painted in TB4 colours in a similar vein to Snit's.
-
That's a very cool shuttle, nicely weathered as well.
-
Very cool project, I like that color scheme.
-
Looks great, fantastic colour choices - Red/White and Exterior/Interior works beautifully!
-
Brilliant work!
