Title: WW1 german greatcoat uniform
Post by: ReneTS on February 13, 2020, 06:06:18 PM
Is it correct that the german greatcoat in ww1 had a stone grey color, and not the field grey as the regular uniform? I am trying to paint some miniatures, and I am not sure I got the color right on either of them. From what I can read the regular uniform in 1914 was more blue tinted than green, so is it way off the color I have used for mine?

it is indeed true that the coats of the German troops in 1914 were rather stone grey. The coats of the officers were a lighter shade and finer worked.
The field-grey coats were later issued to the troops.

Yes, it was considerably darker than the lighter field-grey.
