I'm having a concerted drive to update my older miniatures with new-style bases so they can be used seamlessly with my newer stuff in (mostly) roleplaying games.
There's a complete gallery (so far) with details here: https://www.matakishi.net/miniatures-from-the-vault.html

What an absolutely glorious collection! Great to see those Chronicle kobolds again (they were in one of your dungeon-block tutorials, I think).
If it's any help, I think that Grenadier demon is a variant on Orcus that was released under a more generic name (perhaps because of overdone concerns about copyright?). He has slightly different horns and some modification to his nether regions.
Anyway, marvellous stuff!

Amazing collection! I am glad I took the time to follow your link to your gallery. I hope you decide to repurpose that Mantis Warrior base somehow, too clever to lose it.

I threw it away. I can make it again though, I have more hex pieces in a box.

Very nice. I recognise many of those figures from years gone by.

Thanks, really nice blog post!

Ha! They're great!
(On the demon: yours is 039 - Demon (http://www.miniatures-workshop.com/lostminiswiki/index.php?title=Fantasy_Lords_-_Second_Series#039) - a later conversion of the earlier Orcus. I've always wondered why they bothered with such a slight adjustment, but I think it must have been worries about a litigious TSR - perhaps the combination of the classical name and the portly goat-demon look).
-
Those kobolds are my particular favourite, lovely figures.
-
Great stuff, really nice.
I do have to ask (and please don't take this the wrong way as I love your blog and have followed loads of your tutorials) but why the fuck would you want to save those 2 green things in the middle!
What the hell are they?
Love the kobolds, I have some in a box somewhere

Actually, they are scary rock burrowers from Garrison miniatures and they are an integral part of the history of our wonderful hobby.
They are a bit crap aren't they? But, they have charm and I like them, so they get to stay :)

Ok fair enough. Still can't help feeling that tying them on a fishing line might be a better use for them

The new bases do bring new life to some old sculpts with a lot of character. I hate basing so I cant really imaging doing it twice... o_o
Are you able to bury the old smaller bases in the new one or are you removing them first?

All the old stuff is removed. Most of them were based on plasticard using PVA and painted sand so it comes away without any problems. Some had Basetex which is more problematic and a very few were superglued to coins or washers which are a pain to remove, I've found that heating the coin can get the miniature to pop off though if you're lucky.

Here's a process shot.

I was so jealous of the guy who owned that goat horned devil mini! Nicely done all of them :-)

Cool minis 8)
Also liked your campaigns, where you used the black hack (latter days of yarth and oubliette). Liked the minis there too.
One thing that bugged me, when I was reading the latter days of yarth, was that I never quite figured out which character was which character lol.

I should have done an annotated photo of the party. Too late now, next time though :)

love the video presentation of the figures.

Very nice indeed

Here's the next lot, nearing the end now :)

there is somer fabulous stuff there Paul - well done. When this C Virus is all over I must get over to visit - stay safe

Fantastic!!! Thanks for posting these :)
-
These are all fantastic! Silly and simple as it is, I particularly like the sheet ghost. I have that figure somewhere, or one very close.
-
I really love your painting style.
Also where did you get those wonderful round bases? Would love to stock up on them.

Mark Copplestone has one on his site (probably very slightly altered), this seems to be one of the Grenadier models he had the masters or sculpts for.

I buy my bases from Warbases. Sadly, they've closed their doors for the duration of the pandemic lockdown. Other vendors sell MDF bases on eBay though.
Luckily for me, my last order of bases arrived the day before they shut up shop so I can indulge in anxiety-free painting for a few more weeks.

This week's update. These Mithril miniatures that I originally painted in the early 90s were 'rescued' by stripping and repainting them
Before:

After:

Smart.

Brilliantly done rescue!
-
A quick group shot of the last batch from this re-basing project. I left these until last because they mostly all had huge integral metal bases and needed to go onto correspondingly large MDF ones. Better pics later next week when I do a proper update.
All that's left now are a few odds and ends lurking in out-of-the-way places which I'll update when I come across them.

Great job Paul

As akkie said, great stuff. Inspired me to dust off the fantasy minis and have a tidy up for getting into SBH again. Nothing as drastic as rebasing, just repainting bases, touching up chips and re-varnishing.
-
Great job on the mithril miniatures, I have some of those and haven't updated the paint jobs yet.
-
Fantastic stuff.

love the Nasty (a range I don't recall) stone golem.
and I reckon the dark lord is letting the throne do all the imposing for him ... (and with that I think I better stop spamming the poor LAF for today!)

Lovely stuff Paul :o :-*

You have a really nice and varied collection. :-*

A nice project and great to see those old Mithril figures again. I use to have a lot of them when they first came out.
