Been rereading Lion Rampant so the start of a little retinue.... it won't be strictly historical but rather minis I fancy doing in between work jobs....

Bloomin' great work Dags :-* :-* :-*
-
Nice brushwork sir
-
Excellent Jon. What a great character.
(Although he does remind me of the grail knight in Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade ;))
By the way, I am finally about to use one of your Dagster Hounds for something. That’s only taken three years. But he’s perfect for the job... :)
-
Yay! Always love seeing them painted and used 8)
-
Very nice painting. :-* :-*
-
WoW! Nice job. :-*
-
Nice :). It’s going to be good seeing you get into this period.

Fabulous painting. :-* :-*

Tremendous painting! :o
-
Lovely work ;D
-
Great job as usual Jon.
When I saw the first figure, I thought you might be going down the Monty Python route, maybe using the Studio Miniature Medieval Mayhem figures.
:)

Lovely

Excellent paint prodding there.
Is it just me or does that archer look as if he's regretting his life choices?

Superb painting. :-* :-*

My only complaint would be, why didn't I order some before the plague came along ??? ??? ???

Spearmen are from Antiviluwhatsit - Andy Taylor's firm - and he's still open ;)

Aye, my mistake Andediluvian (hope I got that right!!??) are still trading 8)

Perfect :)
-
Lovely work Jon.
I’ve got some of the Claymore castings in my paint queue, lovely minis, only minor gripe is having to drill the hands for spears (not difficult, just annoying when you’ve got a lot of them to do).
The Antedwhatevertheyrecalled are on my buy-list...look like they will go well with the Claymore minis.
-
Brilliant mate :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
Crisp, tight and vibrant 8)
-
Too kind all 8)
drill the hands
Realise it's a job for the kind of quantities you do mate but I've never had a spear ping out of a drilled hand when it's knocked or come off in the post. The minimal extra work is worth it everytime for me. And they look better.

Perhaps that should have read “tired of drilling MY hands” lol
-
Super stuff - you really brought out the character in these sculpts. Tempted to get a few myself now. Looking forward to seeing the next additions :)

A few more bits...

Can I ask, which manufacturer is the very first knight from? :)
Many, many apologies - completely missed your question....
He's a slight conversion of a Footsore limited edition figure - not sure he's still available
-
You're getting the hang of this painting;
Is the woof one of yours or from somewhere else?
-
Is the woof one of yours or from somewhere else?
It's a conversion of one of mine that Martin Buck did for me for a charity project a few years back.... if anybody wants one, they're a fiver (inc UK postage) with profits going to NHS Charities
-
Beautiful work, Jon. The squire is brilliant and the pooch is priceless :-*
So with you on the plastic chit front too. I find it peculiar that people go to all the trouble of painting beautiful figures and making lovely terrain - then sprinkle it with day-glo plastic tat. Those markers are spot on.

Love the figures!
The trebuchet reminds me of Stronghold and Stronghold Crusader. So many cows sacrificed in the name of the plague.

Brilliant Dags :-* :-* :-*
Those Studio Holy Grail mini's are just so good. I've got the "French" still to do after many years- they were bought for Lion Rampant when it first hit the shelves but the campaign was over before I had a chance to give them a lick of paint lol
-
I can hear the music now... Damn you. It’s going to be in my head all day lol

lovely figures and painting

I loathe them with a vengeance.... done some 'abandoned' shields as well (but they're a b****** to photograph) - anything other than unnecessary junk on the table.
Looking forward to seeing the Monster 8)

I thought that's what they were doing but couldn't remember the scene from the film

Love the monks, but Sir Bedivere’s shield is :-*. did you paint that with a pin?

Absolutely amazing paint work. Love them :-*

Speed painting experiment on one of CP Models' new Templars. Wanted to see if I could get something done quickly that I'd be happy with on the table - 30 mins from primed to finish with a big brush and limited colours. Took longer for the sand on the base to dry!
(https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51054247258_fc6c69d148_o.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2kMun1o)
Went for the Knights of St. Lazarus as I've had a soft spot for them probably as a result of being highly embarrassed and appalled by finding the leper jokes funny that were all the rage when I was a kid

Superb! :-* :-* :-*
I wasn't ware of the CP Models Templars. and most excellent dynamic sculpts they are too. Do you happen to know if they have plans to expand the range mate?
-
As with most 'small' companies it will probably depend on how these do.
-
30 minutes from primed to painted? And to that standard? Colour me impressed. :-* :-* :-*

That's always the dilemma. They are beautiful sculps :-*
-
They're of a size with Claymore, Antediluvian, Kingmaker so the (lack of) numbers aren't a worry for me, tbh: a 4 man hearthguard unit for SAGA or a 6 figure man at arms unit for LR is doable and won't look horribly out of place
-

Unfortunately my normal habit is to avoid skirmish size armies. Also, the early armours might not fit so well with the the Claymore and Kingmaker stuff with there being a hundred years of military technology in between the ranges; though, I did notice that Andy had produced some (early) Islemen in the Antediluvian range.
EDIT: I do have a few skirmish forces but I'm generally more into larger style games :)
-
Horses for courses mate and it would be very boring if we all liked/wanted the same things 8)
I said right at the start, on page 1, that this wouldn't be a strictly historical project but rather minis that I liked. Because of the amount of commission painting I do I'll never be able to finish a big army for myself and, if I'm honest, fun games (and no one could honestly call SAGA or Lion Rampant historical simulations) are more my cup of tea. If a unit doesn't, historically, fit with the rest I won't lose any sleep over it ;D

That's fine, of course it's horses for courses. It wasn't in any way a form of criticism mate. I was just speculating on the CP Templars and hoping for the range to expand. That's all i was getting at really :)

I have always been a bit of a stickler, some would say stick in the mud, when it comes to armours etc
