Title: "Hold until relieved" - Pegasus Bridge - 6th June 1944
Post by: Overlord on June 06, 2020, 02:11:26 PM
As today is the 76th anniversary of D-Day I thought I would post some pics from the game my friend Chris and I played this time last year.

20mm Rapid Fire using the Colin Rumford scenario from WI81 (June 1994 - the 50th anniversary)

All 3 gliders land, but with casualties in all of them.  Forward the Ox & Bucks!

Unfortunately the defenders are on alert and rapidly respond.

Heading towards the bridge.

The British start to take up positions.

A firefight starts across the canal

The Germans put up a fierce defence

Less so on the eastern side!

The British start to cross the bridge.

The defenders are already bringing up reinforcements and take a toll on the assault force.

More reinforcements make a rapid counter-attack, despite losing a half-track to the captured Pak.

After a fast, brutal firefight they re-take the Pak position.

7 Para reinforcements coming from Ranville, but too late

The game ended at this point:
A single man had got to the western side of the bridge and the defenders were still putting up a fierce resistance.  Their rapid reaction to the glider landing and subsequent rapid re-inforcement meant the Ox & Bucks were unable to achieve their objective.  They may have been able to hold the eastern bank with the approching help of 7 Para.  Lovatt would likely have a fight on to take the Benouville side when he eventually turned up.

This was only a game for us.  Respect to the courageous men that did this for real 76 years ago.

Thanks for the photos.
I took a minute for a prayer for all the brave men at Normandy.
We owe them so much.
Both my father and my wife's father were wounded fighting in the Pacific.
We both can trace family members who severed in the AWI.
To all that have served, a salute to you.
