I few months ago I lost all my bookmarks and I vaguely recall someone in this forum posting about how to make pots from wood beads. It might have been d phipps but I searched and can't find it. Anyone able to point me in the right direction?

Yes, we use beads fairly often. I think it's a common practice. Wood, plastic, plain, fancy, or whatever just looks cool. It's time for a game of "SPOT THE BEAD" -- find all 9 beads to win! lol

Perfect, thanks! Do you paint them at all?
Any suggestions on where to buy them? All I see around here are very big ones

Sometimes I just stain or ink them. Sometimes I paint them. It just depends on how I feel.
I'd suggest looking for a craft store, such as a Hobby Lobby or Michael. These places usually have an entire aisle full of beads and trinkets for people to make their our necklaces, bracelets, and so on.
If you don't have luck with that, you might try looking online for something like this --- https://www.amazon.com/Foraineam-200pcs-Natural-Unfinished-Wooden/dp/B07RT7ML99/ref=sr_1_11?dchild=1&keywords=craft+beads&qid=1599535752&sr=8-11

I just stain them. I guess I could paint them and make it look like a clay pot.

Where are you based?
If you're in the UK Hobbycraft have a bead pick'n'mix section where you can get all sorts of odd beads (some work well as objective markers or even wound markers), otherwise Poundland sometimes have bags of beads in their craft aisle, or the Works often have packs of them.

I got these beads off of Amazon. I picked them because they are well scaled to my 15mm project, but there were many more options if you were looking for something larger.

These are painted. All started life an antique silver color. Both of these links have pictures with overall dimensions, which I found quite helpful.

If you're going with the fancy silvery ones, rather than Amazon try this independent bead supplier:
https://www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/
they sell lots of different styles, but more crucially they often have a clearance section and special offers (such as post free).
They are really good if you ever need beads in large quantities (such as making a half dozen Egyptian style collars for school) and also sell reels of cord and leather thonging

I did something with a big bag of beads I found in a hobby/art/craft shop. Also some acrylic beads I found in a sewing and knitting shop I found them in an old stock rummage box.

Points of interest and jewels for plundering. Just mixed the acrylics beads up and placed in old calculator button crates.

Those look great!

Another suggestion that helps improve their appearance is to add a rim. Use either thin solder or wire. Wrap it around a pen or dowel the same diameter as the opening on the bead. Cut and glue on to make the rim. Little detail that goes a long way. That way you can mix up the same beads to make several different looking pots.

I have a dream ... that one day I’ll do a game based on the Thousand and One Arabian Nights, as in Sinbad and all the many other characters.
Well, you may have just solved my question of what to fill Ali Baba’s cave with! I am shooting for jars and barrels that appear to have been looted from all over Asia, India and the Middle East. Those beads have the exact look I am after.
Thanks so much.

And in case anyone missed Snitchy's "making broken pots" tutorial: http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=127143.0 (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=127143.0)
Dan, I think that will fit right into your cave of loot. A few broken pots with gold spilling out!

That’s exactly the idea. :)

Well this thread certainly took on a life of its own.
Thanks for all the recommendations.

Yes, that. Jump rings from the bead section at Michaels work well for this and there's a good variety of sizes. I made some bead pots years back and they turned out well. I even made some for Elk101.
-
You certainly did. :D

How do you add the necks?
-
@ MalcyBogaten and Cacique Caribe:
Thanks!
@ ancientsociety
I use a variety of flat or round headed sewing pins to stack/thread beads together. I then “glue” them together using Liquitex acrylic string gel (it dries clear).
I clip any excess/protruding length of pin, and super or hot glue to plates, dishes, or clear acetate bases.
-
those look fantastic - i'll have to do some work on mine, so thanks for the tips.
"plates" i assume are various types of buttons?

Anything and everything that could appear to be a tray, plate, platter, etc... :)
Mostly costume jewelry fixings sourced from craft/hobby stores.
-
Now the costume jewelry as platters is a brilliant idea! I will go and kick myself for not seeing that one! ;D

Smaller beads. When I do this I usually build upside down with a straight pin as the cork, small bead or two for the neck and the big bead for the body. Drop of superglue to hold them together and once you clip the straight pin you can use it to pin the bottle to whatever you want.

Pacarat's bottles and vases are awesome! Bought a set from him some years ago and used them in my Walking Dead houses:

Still have some left and they will surely find a place in my future Walking Dead stuff :)
