Title: HM 17th Foot regiment-Crimean War cuff detail?
Post by: OB on September 16, 2020, 01:44:29 PM
I've started painting Cathcart's 4th Division for the Crimean War.  I've tracked down an image of officers of the 17th Foot regiment.

The officers have yellow/gold lace around their cuff buttons the rest of the cuff seems to be white. The rank and file seem to have had all white/pearl grey facings.  Is that correct?

Any help gratefully received.

You are going to reproduce the only British division armed with smoothbore muskets? How sporting.

Yes indeed!  I already have the other three.  I finished the last regiment of the Highland Brigade last week.

The performance of the 4th Division repays study when considering the armament question.

Not much, but the regimentals colors indicate white https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Leicestershire_Regiment (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Leicestershire_Regiment)

Thanks Vincent.  I've just ordered an Osprey book in the hope of finding the detail.

I think I've got it right now.  Collar is red, cuff is white with red cloth on the line of the buttons for other ranks.  Yellow for officers.  Just in case anyone else can use the info'.

Update: That it seems was the Lancashire regiment-white flag confusion.
