Hi,
I'm thinking of a vsf project, based on Mars (and other planets of the solar system) colonization by the late 19th french foreign legion.
I'm wondering if anyone has a ruleset to advise ? For a 20-30figures a side game size.
thank you !

Think you are looking at "In Her Majesty´s Name."

thank you for your answer, I'm not sure this is the ruleset I'm looking for : I'd like a game size a bit larger, and military focused.

My recommendation for that number of figures would be "Triumph and Tragedy". Would give you a couple of units and some named characters to use. Could also incorporate heavy weapons and vehicles if your VSF tends towards that aspect.
Not the easiest rules to get hold of currently (sadly) but a post on the T&T board here usually gets you sorted.
Failing that, almost as good would be the more readily available "Men who would be Kings". Similar scope of game but without the option for vehicles.
Both would give you the option to add to the game size without difficulty (useful as VSF collections have a mysterious tendency to grow well beyond the initial intent).

I'd take a look at Fistful of Lead: Bigger Battles, which has the advantage of sharing the mechanisms of the FFoL Core rules so you can do smaller scale 'narrative' skirmishes with 6 or 7 figures a side if you wanted too.

Fistful of Lead Bigger Battles should do the job. It enlarges the rules from around 5 figures to 30 or so figures. Its a generic rules set which can be easily adapted to cover any period.
We use the core rules for our VSF small scale skirmish games set on Mars.
If you are interested it is available in the Uk via https://www.oshiromodelterrain.co.uk/index.html Or if you are Stateside then our very own BaronVonJ
Dr De'Ath just pipped me to the post lol

While I quite enjoy IHMN, I agree it maybe more for a bit small band than you seek.
As Sundayhero is registered as being in France, postage from either the UK or USA may be a challenge, though I'll point out Bigger Battles is available as a PDF.
Truth be, there are a number of rulesets that could scratch the itch. G.A.S.L.I.G.H.T. is worth a mention, though my own group plays an almost unrecognizable version based on long usage and agreedto adjustments.

Absolutely! However, as some of the earlier mentions are out of print or, even more so, difficult to find, might be worthwhile starting at the end and working backwords. ;)
Alas, I think V&S&F might work well...
Actually, as compelling as a hopeless defense of Fort Zinderneuf on the Red Sands would be, I don't recall any rules including the FFL. Going back to looking...
