I'm looking for a couple of 20mm Cold War BAOR snipers. This is a bit of a new period for me and a quick search has turned up nothing very impressive...
so who makes the best ones please?
???
-
I'll join that hunt. Just dug out my BAOR platoon for a little paint touch up.
-
Maybe the ones in the British Falklands range

Elhiem has you sorted.
BAOR31 British Army Snipers (https://www.elhiem.co.uk/ourshop/prod_6073549-BAOR31-British-Army-Snipers.html)

Elheim are the ones that I thought look crap! They kind of stand out like a blind cobbler's thumb, doesn't anybody make them looking a bit less gormless?
:?

Oh, I quite liked them! They've got a couple of kneeling figures in the HQ set, one with Starlight night-vision scope that could suit?
Failing that, your best bet might be to find a suitable figure among the Liberation/RH or Underfire Miniatures ranges and do some cutting?

Plumped for these lads, with a tickle up I think they'll do...

They look the part. Photo style looks like Eureka, but not seen those before; do you have a link to them?

Here's a link to them Ash, I'm now trying to locate the little bleeders in Blighty...

I recall snipers still using No.4s and Scout Regiment telescopes well into the 1970s, so at a pinch, I'll get away with them for my BAOR lads.

Eureka UK has the AB range:

Thanks chaps, I'm a big fan of Elheim figures, just wish the British snipers were as good as their Russian counterparts...
:)
-
Harry if you want so AB miniatures, I can order them from Eureka and post them to you.
-
Thanks for that kind offer Blackwolf, much appreciated. I'll try ordering them from Eureka UK, if that fails, I'll be in touch!

You could always just take a spare rifle barrel, and/or bit of wire of the appropriate diameter, and have it sticking out of a bit of brush on "clump foliage" glued to a base, since a good sniper who is prone really shouldn't be seen anyway.
Another option would be to do the same from under a tarp, piece of corrugated metal, broken down building wall, etc., etc. too, if in a more urban environment.
Snipers aren't supposed to be seen.
-
Cool idea Mako.
You could use them as markers for where snipers might be...
-
Yep, and/or to represent the ones that are still hidden and undetected like they should be, and the others for when they've blown their cover and have been spotted.

:) By Jove, I think he's got it! :)
I'm going to bung a lump of lichen on a base and save myself a fortune!
Anyway, sniper problem solved, onto the Gimpy sustained fire gubbins...
would I be right in thinking the tripod can be fettled either black or dark green?
???
-
Black, at least all the ones I've ever seen have been black.
-
Thanks for that.
:)
-
Sniper!!!
One shot... one kill!
:o
-
Those turned out nicely.
-
Thanks Ash, hard to tell from the crap piccys but the dynamic duo are wearing Denison smocks and DPM trousers.
:)
