I am jumping on the war of the roses bandwagon.
I have never really had much interest in this/these wars as I get completely lost in all the kings and shifting allegiances. But now I am giving it a go.
On a spur of the moment thing my gaming buddy Erik and me ordered 10mm armies from Pendraken. It later turned out I had one in the leadpile already that I had bought on a whim years ago... ::)
But this time I fully intend to paint up an army of Lancasters. Hence this thread. Also perhaps to put some preasure on Erik for him to get his lot of traitorous Yorkist painted ud.
This is my first try with 10mm miniatures. They are perhaps a bit on the dark side of things. I might try to lighten them up a bit.

Billhooks perchance?
-
Initially the plan was to try out the old Bloddy Barons from Peter Pig. But I guess we will give the Billhooks a chance as well.

I've played Bloody Barons's V.1 but I understand V.2 is out now and is quite different?
-
Stop tempting me! I've got to paint my galley fleets first!
-
I have finished up a mob of infantry. This lot is raised by Henry Beaufort Duke of Sommerset.

Great stuff

Wow. They look great. I will be starting my Yorkist army tonight so look out.
Cheers

Nice job mate
:)
-
Great stuff, 10mm is my favourite scale
-
I have finished some Irish Kern. Here seen sneaking through some rough terrain to bushwhack some Yorkists.

Damned those well mixed infantry stands :o :o :o

I can finally present my first bit for a Yorkist force. Warwick and some royal forces along with a large mercenary pike block. They have also brought some handgunners and artillery with them.
This is pretty much what you get in a 10 mm army deal from Pendraken. I have placed a new order for more reinforcements. At the moment our plans are to use Bloody Barons with units mainly 8 bases strong.

Amazing Erik :)
Right down to the crosses on the Burgundian artillerymen :o :o

Appears Erik has got the jump on you! ;)
Well done, Erik! :-*
-
We’ll it looks like I have better get in gear.
I’ll start out with four bases of mercenary crossbowmen.

Nice work, always good to see more 10mm
-
I have done a few more bases for the Lancastrians.
I have run out of bases, so I will have to wait to finish more until I get a fresh supply.
-
Nice to see you up and running again. Quite envy all the cavalry you have done already.
I will join as soon as my models arrive.
-
I have started making some small scale trees. This is the first proof of concept test tree. It turned out great I think. So now I have 20 more on deck.

-
Looks fantastic and prober scale as well.
Nice to see real size trees.
What did you use for the trunk?
Cheers
Erik
-
Have you used the Faller (or perhaps Noch) tree sprues? These look a little larger than the ones I used for 10mm, but they do look a good size for the figures.
One thing I need was add a good coat of diluted PVA over the clump foliage as otherwise I found that after a few months of gaming most of the clump foliage fell off!
-
Nifty little figures Frede. I like the artillery in particular :)
-
Thanks.
The trees are made from these cheap tree armatures from China chopped down.

I am still working on this. Perhaps I might even get to play with them soon. I must say that this whole lockdown malarkey has put a bit of a dampener on my painting enthusiasm.
A unit og bow and bill

And a general

And I managed to finish of another unit of bows and bills this weekend.

Charming stuff :-*
Very tempting to do something at a smaller scale but I need to try to keep the focus on the three ongoing projects.
-
You painted this too tiny figures so brilliant. But the gras is too high, looks like they running through fields. Maybe another kind of gras???
-
These look great!
-
Indeed they do. My are unfortunately lost in the mail, but Im not out of the race yet. As soon as reinforcement arive, I will be back in the saddle.
Cheers
Erik

Speaking of saddles: Paint your cavalry while you wait..
-
I have painted a unit of Scots to join the Lancaster cause.

-
They look great. We might expand into Flodden at some point :D.
In fear of repeating myself, my miniatures are still somewhere in the great world of lost mail. Pendraken have send me a new pack, but who knows when that will arive.
Cheers
Erik

Fab work 8)
Still moving me dangerously into thinking about smaller scales ???
-
I managed to finish up a more formed up unit of Irish to go with the Kerns I did earlier. I had a really hard time finding a suitable Irish banner, so I went with this one with the three crowns. It is probably not 100% suitable but neither is the Scottish Saltire.
-
I like those! Are the Gallowglass a mix of Pendraken and Irregular?
Have you seen the new(ish) Pendraken Kerns they add some nice variety to the unarmoured troops.
Still moving me dangerously into thinking about smaller scales ???
You know you will. It’s just a matter of time...
-
They are all Pendraken. I did the Kerns as well they are on page one of this thread.
-
They are aren’t they - for some reason I was thinking the one in the padded jacket with axe over his shoulder was Irregular, but the irregular figures are standing, holding their axe.
I’d missed the Kerns on the first page - they look good.
It was the figures in the Elizabethan range I was pointing out as the new ones, and certainly I think the Irish figures work for this slightly earlier period
For example these guys

Fantastic looking Armies, what rules are you using for them?
Cheers
Matt
-
We have not yet played with them, but the plan is to use Bloody Barons V.1 and/or Never mind the billhooks.
-
arrowfodder!!
-
You are churning these out at a cracking rate Frede :)
Looking good!
-
Thanks.
Managed to finish a unit of Welsh spearman and archers.
Now I need to finish one more unit of bows and bills and I have the eight units we originally set out to finish. Then it is just a matter of waiting for Erik.
-
Nice miniatures and painting. Tell me, are there any englishmen in your army? lol lol lol
I would like to correct, that we are not waiting for Erik. We are waiting for the post service and god forbid it the Danish customs.
Cheers

Why waste perfectly good englismen to the Yorkist arrows, when I can use the Scots, Irish and Welsh.. ;D
Oh and tell your cavalry that we are just waiting on the post...

I painted a retinue belonging to Sir Robert Harleston
(https://i.imgur.com/Rfs9rXV.jpg)
And some more cavalry
(https://i.imgur.com/qPGnd2n.jpg)
I now just need to paint up some commanders. I think perhaps in the weekend I will post up a class photo.
-
:-*
-
To finish out my army I painted some various command bases: Duke of Sommerset, Earl of Devon, Duke of Buckingham and King Henry VI.
And I have had the whole lot out for a class photo.

Wow. They look great. I really like your command stands and the whole army lined up. I should be up and running next week. Ransom money to Post Nord has been paid.
-
The command stands are great, have you printed the flags, or are they commercial ones?
The whole army looks great arrayed for battle.
-
Thanks.
I got the banners from Old Glory. Pendraken also sell some. But they are horribly pixelated and does not name the banners.
As it turns out I was not completely finished. I had two more cannons stashed away. They were quick to finish however.

Better late than never as they say :D :D
I finally managed to finish of my Yorkist force. A mixture of lost mail, work and everyday distraction have held them back.
8 units of bill and bow and one larger unit af pike. No cavalry yet, but I might go back and paint more infantry.

Cracking little fellows Erik :-*
-
I am not usually one for these little fellows but they do look good in a grouping like that.
-
Looking good. We have to see if we can actually get to play a game with them at some point.
-
They will have to wait for the cold war to blow over lol lol
-
They will have to wait for the cold war to blow over lol lol
I know, but at one point you will have to get tired of loosing our Cold war games. ;D
-
Blimey :o
This is the way to do it for big battles methinks.
Well done you Danes. I wonder if there are any Brits refighting Danish dynastic wars of the Fifteenth Century? ;)
Looking good. We have to see if we can actually get to play a game with them at some point.
