Lovely job on those minis Roger, always enjoy the blog posts too.
Oh! and your take on the tartan works well in my opinion :)
-
Thank you as always, trying to keep the tartan pretty simple for most figures I feel like if I overcomplicate it the pattern ends up lost anyway.

You're right, anyway wouldn't most of the men have worn a fairly basic sett pattern in the main. :)
-
Absolutely, wearing what you can afford, less pattern and simpler colours being cheaper would make sense.
-
Well done on the plaid...I cring when I have to paint plaid...
-
Just loaded a post onto the blog lookign at basing for this project.

Following with interest.
Vodkafan & I have gone down the road of 40mm x 40mm for Government Infantry,
three bases (4 figs. a base) giving units of 12 figures.
Jacobites we are putting on 'Clan' (i.e. bigger) bases with 6 figures to a base.
To give the Jacobites the problem of lack of uniformity in unit size, we will have
small clans= 1 base, average clans= 2 bases & big clans= 3 bases. So far we have
(almost) a Government army, but our Jacobites are only one small clan with an average
size lowland militia unit.
If you are interested pictures are (somewhere) on my thread, 'Stuf wot I dun' Sorry
but I can't remember what pages.
-
Enjoyed the blog entry Roger, sorry no useful advice to give on the basing quandary tho' :)
-
Cheers guys, has been, where will I find that thread please? Interested ina look.

Above is the link (I hope). Just in case that doesn't work.
It is in the section 'Workbench' under the title 'Stuf Wot I Dun'
The Jacobite entries are on pages:-2 (Government line or 'Hatmen')
13 (Government Grenadiers)
17 (Government Artillery)
32 (First, small, clan. The Buchannans. My wife's side of the family)
33 (Jacobite Militia, an averge size unit. The Strathboggie Militia)
Feel free to view all the other stuff on show. I appreciate possative feedback.

Very nice, I hav ealso used some of those Warlord figures, by the way love some of those early Indian Mutiny images some lovely terrain peices giving me ideas for my Sikh wARS PROJECT.
-
Thanks for the comment. As it happens I am making some
peasants' houses for a friends Sikh Wars game.
-
I have the figures based and sabots for my own 1745 project. I intend to use the Too Fat Lardies 'Sharp Practice' rules. There are the unit rosters and campaign basis in the TFL 2017 special. For my Jacobites I have (so far!) 3 groups of 12 clansmen, two groups of 8 lowlanders, and an 8 man group of Royal Ecossais. I intend to expand this with a second group of Ecossais and mounted Bagot's Hussars.
For the government forces, so far, 6 groups of 8 line infantry, two groups of 8 grenadiers and a group of 8 dragoons.
Oh, and a castle..

-
The castle looks familiar
Very nice :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
-
Love that, as mentionedmine are also for use with SharpPractice, postign an update shortly. I have a few buildigns and just ordered soemmore highland cottages from the US, I do fancy a Scottish tower myself, I was tempted to do the laser cut PeleTower I can see on Ebay then add some out walls and out buildings. Will look awesome as yours does, just questioning if I will get the return on investmentin game time.
-
just questioning if I will get the return on investmentin game time.
I am trying to think of this time a 'preparation' time, for when we do get back to
face to face gaming. So go ahead & build your scenery.
Nice castle by the way.

I am making steady progress, hope to have the majority complete by March when the next Kickstarter might be ready from Flags of War.
Next KS opens on November 16th, Roger. Iain announced it yesterday in his Facebook page.
https://www.facebook.com/flagsofwar
It will included Irish Picquets, Royal Ecossais reloading, Baggot's hussars, Jacobite artillery, Royal North British Fusiliers, British Grenadiers reloading, Hatmen at charging bayonets (I will need a few of those, damnit!) and Hatmen firing (kneeling) and as add-ons a couple of generals, 3pdrs and an officer of the Baggot's hussars. I think that stretch-goals include Royal Artillery, but not sure
-
Hi Antonio, yes stretch goals include dismounted dragoons and royal artillery, lookign forward to this some lovely stuff comign through.

I forgot about the dismounted dragoons! I have saved a bunch of money for this KS, and if finally there is a negotiated Brexit there will be no customs! Truth be told it was what worried me most: to spend money paying for taxes instead for more minis! lol

'Two things are certain in this life, death and taxes.'
-
Dont get me started, my Hudson and Allen cottages for this project have just cleared customs and now I have an invoice for 20% of the models cost to cover the taxes. Not impressed, just as well the building are lovely.
-
Feel your pain. That is one of the things of ordering from Hudson & Allen that puts me off.
-
Not ideal, paid a few days ago no idea when they will arrive, still they are the best around I feel so I will suck it up.
-
The Hudesna nd Allen cottages are here, love these.

Really lovely models. They are a pleasure to paint.
-
Iain has activated his last Kickstarter for the '45:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/funkyflags/1745-jacobite-rebellion-last-hurray?ref=user_menu
To be honest I would have liked a for Prince Charlie's Horse Guards and for Government troops marching/advancing poses, but on the other hand Iain will expand his range into the War of Austrian Succession, which if successful, will give us more options. Anyway, I am not in a hurry. I am a slow painter (I've just finished my first Jacobite brigade and I am half-way the first Government brigade! :D )
-
Hi Antonio, I have already pledged and lookign forward to some of these lovel figures. I also do want soem skirmishing/firing Highlanders and lowlanders. Still whats coming in looks great.
-
Oooh, very nice plaides! Those are always fun to paint.
-
Just about done first two will share with you over the weekend.

Always thought Big Yin would have made a fantastic Macbeth.

Oops! Forgot to say, lovely job (definitely not jobbie)
on those Highlanders.

Cheers, I always fancied a film about Montrose in the style of the old musketeer films, Big Yin in a Roy Kinear type riole.

Unit looks great so do the flags :)
-
So far so good. Lovely paint jobs!
I have been looking at doing something from the Jacobite uprisings, as I've been to both Culloden and Killikrankie. Not sure I want to do all that tartan, though... :o
-
Cheers Keith, CapnJim I know what you mean about the tartan, I feel like its worth it but I do need to have a rest from the plaid before my eyes go funny so do a few then paint somethign else.
-
Awesome! I will use this as my painting guide :-*
-
Thank you traveller, best form of flattery, let me know if you want to know any of the colours I used, alwasy happy to share.

Its primarily the Ecossais, thanks!

OK Traveller. For the breeches and leggings I use a very pale grey MA20 from colour party base coat, I use colour party MA21 and then paint white highlights, the red is Colour Party Crimson MA40, I then add some pink to this to lighten the colour and then use this as a highlight, the jacket is Navy Blue highlighted with mid blue sorry I dont know the codes on these two,and the bonnet is Colour Party field blue code MA66 which is a really nice blue/grey colour, again I add some of the pale grey to this to lighten for the highlights, I particularly like this colour. The flesh is all Foundry tones. Does that help at all?
-
Thanks Roger! I use Vallejo model colour paints but I am sure I can find some translation.
-
My Pleasure, h the two blue ones are from Miniature Paints.
