Last year I backed the Battletech Clan Invasion campaign, but knew I would want a simpler ruleset to use the models with. Not too long ago, I picked up Horizon Wars (and the expansion via pdf). As my BT models have now arrived, I spent last night re-reading through HW. It reminds me that this ruleset looks great. Almost perfect for fast action mech battles. Unfortunately, for whatever reason this title seems to have seen a short publication with Osprey.
For those that have played it, can you give me the run down on your experience? Things you found great about it or things I should be aware of. I fully intend to use this ruleset, so try to keep it on the positive. Maybe 2 pros for every con or something. Thanks!

I must admit that I picked up a copy when it first came out but never gave it much more than an initial read through so I'll be interested to see what others experiences with the game are.

I posted some comments about the system on my blog after our first test game
https://zacgaming.wordpress.com/2020/02/01/horizon-wars-learning-game/
The degradation of systems as you take damage is wonderful. And it forces you to make choices about how to apply damage as you take it based on where the unit is on the table and what is going on around it.
It is a remarkably smooth system which makes the aircraft rules and the scenario system a bit odd. They are both quite fussy.
Unit building and force building are simple and fun and the expansion gives you a lot more options. You can build some really crazy mechs if you are so inclined.
It worked a lot better for my 6mm gaming than I thought it would and my opponent was able to model his wide variety of models with little issue.
I think it would be great for BT games and Strata Miniatures are using the game as a basis for the Hard Wars rules for their range of 6mm mechs.

Here is my review of the game....

and here is a Mech-less battle I completed using Paper Templates...

I really enjoyed the rules overall, and really need to get it out on the table some more. The scale/scope of the game is really fun. Big battles with small forces.

Thanks, all. I'm glad to read people enjoy the title.
Looking around for some tanks and such, it appears that the Reaper CAV line might fit in very well with the new Catalyst Battletech plastic line that i just received a lot of.

I'm particualrly liking the look of these hover tanks. Can I use them on these flyer bases? I guess I'll just need to note frontside arc maybe.

You won't need to mark the firing arcs on those models for HW. Those vehicles are 10mm scale so they might look a bit large next to Battletech minis

So Battletech is 6mm then? any place to land some hover tanks for 6mm?
