My reasoning/excuse is simple..... those Justinian Byzantines have got to have someone to fight right? That doesn't quite explain m y recent foray back into my Anglo Danes but hey ho.....
Mostly Wargames foundry with a smattering of Gripping Beast.
You can find a ton of pictures from various angles of both the unit and the individual bases on my blog here:

Any progress is a good thing. Multiple projects to chose from just keeps it fresh. :)

True :) What has amazed me is that post five year wargaming hiatus, I am getting more stuff completed than I have managed for a long time. It has done me good to refresh the page so's to speak :)

Thanks Matt. I'm hoping Foundry do some sort of X-mas sale so I can get quite a few more Franks on the table top ASAP. They paint up so well they really don't take that long to do. Relatively speaking :)

Excellent news and mucho appreciated 8)

The Franks from Foundry are awesome. Only ancients Foundry did better (maybe) were the Assyrians. You are doing them justice. Franks vs Byzantines are an epic confrontation.

Collecting forces for the Battle of Casilinum/Volturnus are on likely to be the cards. I've got enough mini's to do three or four bases thus far. I'm waiting to see if Foundry do a sale this BF or X-mas though as their prices are a little steep.
I'm planning to "go deep" with the Early Byzantines and their various wars.
You're right though, they are brilliant sculpts and definitely one of their most dynamic ranges.

What's not to love, their outstanding!! :-* :-* :-*

Thanks Cram, I've got another 6 bases worth primed, undercoated and ready to go. The thing is, I've got another 6 bases of Early Byzantines and Anglo Danes ready to go too and I can't make up my mind lol

Don't. Alternate between them. lol

It's difficult at present not to just keep looking at them, dumbfounded, not knowing which direction to head in! lol
I'll sleep on it :)

Yeah, I got the email a few days ago and already have quite a large list :o :D ;D
Sales are great (OK, obvious statement), but when the relatively few companies I really want to buy miniatures from all have a sale simultaneously, things complicated lol

It's been a week of putting together a lot of bits and bobs as well as waiting for some LBMS transfers to arrive, which they did, but are now sitting patiently in my "quarantine" pile :)
I managed to get a couple of Disorder/Discouraged/Routing/Casualty Markers painted, glossed and matted down along with a few Command Stands but only the Frankish Command Case is 100% complete.
There are are the usual extra pics from differing angles etc and mutterings on my blog if you would like to look:

They paint up so well they really don't take that long to do. Relatively speaking :)
That is so true, it only took me a couple of years to find that out lol
I like your shield designs they are really masterful pieces of art.

Very smooth brushwork Darrell.

He certainly ate whatever the equivalent of "all the pies" is in 6CE Francia lol

Cheers, the idea for painting the shields that way came quite by accident (don't they always?). I painted up a unit about ten years ago to sell and just hit on the idea which gradually over time got a little more refined. :)
Very smooth brushwork Darrell.
Cheers Richard- appreciated :)
