Well my next project is beckoning thanks to some great projects i have seen here
like Olicanalads blog and the recent bigredbats swiss that have inspired me to take the plunge
i have 200 Landsknechts bought, from Warlord, Artizan and Steelfist minis, i have started with Warlord plastics and
some metals too with a sample figure to start, regiments will be 36 figs, some photos

Beautifully done - I'm painting the same at the moment and getting nothing like this level of detail or character.
Look forward to seeing more
-
By the way Warlord have some of these plastics in their Black Friday sale at the moment....
-
Beautiful painting. Really top notch. Out of interest, what size bases are you using?

Hi Paul, i was going to use 60mmx 40mm bases with 6 figures on a base so with 36 figs it
will be a 120mm x 120mm square, not sure about other units yet but i have 200 of these to
paint from various manufacturers so that will keep me busy

Hi Khartoum2, i have used mostly GW contrast paints with a fine brush which gives
a great result, the detail is there, will see when the metals show up what results i can get
Brian
-
Brian: sounds good. Those are the same size bases I use for 6 figures. In my opinion, they give a good density of figures. When I saw your first pictures I was afraid that the figures were on their finished bases, and I thought that they looked just that bit too far apart.

another update after a week of painting Landsknechts, thats 10 done so far but
enjoying painting them, just one or two at a time

Marvellous
-
Looking great! Loving the variety!
(And the Contrast paints are a lifesaver when painting Renaissance figures, aren't they?)
-
Lovely work,
but can I ask why only two at a time? I have not used contrast paints so is it a quick drying ink?
Cheers

Yes Happychappy its as if they were made for painting Renaissance ! makes life a little easier

Hi Matt, i have decided to paint one or two at a time so i can finish as i go so to speak as
the patterns can take quite a while to paint,up to 1 hour per finished figure, i usually paint between 16-20 figs at a time but this
can be quite boring like painting 20 faces followed by 20 swords for example so i decided to
change my way of painting for a while
the contrast paints take maybe 5 mins to dry depending on how thick you put it on, maybe longer
painting over white gives a great pastel colour and over grey a more muted colour but only stronger
colours will work properly over grey i found like browns and greens and medium to dark blue
hope this helps

What a great thread and very nice looking miniatures. Not only that, but this thread also serves as great inspiration. I find that I always spent a ton of time figuring out what colors and combination to use when painting landsknechts.
Cheers
Erik

Thanks Erik, i find the colours i have used are found on some countrys flags :D
might try some browns next
Brian

Fantastic! Great basing.
I must say I'm not a huge fan of the plastic Warlord sculpts, but those metal ones look really nice. I'll be interested to see how the Artizan ones compare?

Hi Charlie, there are two Artizan zweihanders with swords slung over their shoulders at the front, they blend in quite well i think
Brian

Lovely to see the unit in all its splendour. The flowers are a nice touch that adds to the colourful feel of the landsknechts.

Yes, they do work well! So the two in the middle are Warlord metals, and the two either side of them are Artizan?
I wonder if the Foundry landsknecht range scale well with them too....
-
Nice work Skip 8)
Maximilian would be proud :)

Fabulous looking pike block :)

Hi Charlie, you are correct, i am not sure on Foundry but once painted a small differrence shoudnt matter
I thought Artizan would be too big but they blend in nicely
Nice work Skip 8)

Thanks Atheling
Fabulous looking pike block :)
Thanks General Haig

Well the next Regiment is underway, this time with Artizan figures

Finally finished my first of two Artizan figures Regiments, nice figures for a reasonable price
the base in front with the zweihanders can be removed when deploying the regiment, i thought these bases
would be nice for when getting in close to another opposing regiment

Well worth buying as they are wonderfully put together in a painterly manner. Great service too from Pete 8)

Well another regiment finished, all Artizan of course, 8 figures for £10 is quite cheap
i think for the quality you get, this will be my last regiment for a while as i will be
going back to my medievel town project and also Hirst Arts buildings when i get my moulds
