Post by: skip on November 21, 2020, 09:04:30 PM
Well my next project is beckoning thanks to some great projects i have seen here
like Olicanalads blog and the recent bigredbats swiss that have inspired me to take the plunge

Beautiful painting. Really top notch. Out of interest, what size bases are you using?

Hi Paul, i was going to use 60mmx 40mm bases with 6 figures on a base so with 36 figs it
will be a 120mm x 120mm square, not sure about other units yet but i have 200 of these to
paint from various manufacturers so that will keep me busy

Beautifully done - I'm painting the same at the moment and getting nothing like this level of detail or character.

Hi Khartoum2, i have used mostly GW contrast paints with a fine brush which gives
a great result, the detail is there, will see when the metals show up what results i can get

Brian: sounds good. Those are the same size bases I use for 6 figures. In my opinion, they give a good density of figures. When I saw your first pictures I was afraid that the figures were on their finished bases, and I thought that they looked just that bit too far apart.

(And the Contrast paints are a lifesaver when painting Renaissance figures, aren't they?)

Lovely work,

but can I ask why only two at a time? I have not used contrast paints so is it a quick drying ink?

Cheers

Yes Happychappy its as if they were made for painting Renaissance ! makes life a little easier

Hi Matt, i have decided to paint one or two at a time so i can finish as i go so to speak as
the patterns can take quite a while to paint,up to 1 hour per finished figure, i usually paint between 16-20 figs at a time but this
can be quite boring like painting 20 faces followed by 20 swords for example so i decided to
change my way of painting for a while
the contrast paints take maybe 5 mins to dry depending on how thick you put it on, maybe longer
painting over white gives a great pastel colour and over grey a more muted colour but only stronger
colours will work properly over grey i found like browns and greens and medium to dark blue
hope this helps

What a great thread and very nice looking miniatures. Not only that, but this thread also serves as great inspiration. I find that I always spent a ton of time figuring out what colors and combination to use when painting landsknechts.

Cheers

Yes, they do work well! So the two in the middle are Warlord metals, and the two either side of them are Artizan?
I wonder if the Foundry landsknecht range scale well with them too....
