Presenting the inaugural ‘Build Something’ Contest.
The subject for this first contest will be: Transportation
It is a deliberately open category covering just about any type of vehicle from train to submarine to airship. Additionally any buildings connected to transportation, such as a train station, dockside, hangar, Stargate etc are acceptable. In theory you could even submit a road, river or bridge. This should allow almost everyone to come up with an entry regardless of their own specific interests.
Members can post WIP photos if they like. The advantage of WIPs means they can be used for future reference and would allow people to see how the item was constructed. Each entrant should start a WIP thread for their own submission (WIPS only please, no completed items until after the contest has ended). Posting such a thread is however NOT compulsory.
The idea is for scratch-building to form the major part of an entry. If kits, pre-made resin/metal/plastic/etc parts are used they should ideally form only a minor contribution.
I do not wish to make the contest too restrictive for those taking part (or myself running it), so would suggest a modicum of common sense prevails. Voters will (hopefully) decide whether the amount of scratch-building is sufficient. The posting of a WIP thread for an entry is likely to aid voters choice.
All construction & painting should take place during the contest, no previously built/started items please. The idea of the contest is to give you an incentive to build something you have just not got around to doing previously.
For final entries you can submit up to 3 photos:
-A single photo of the finished item (Minimum entry requirement)
-Another that can be a single or composite photo (of multiple smaller photos) of the finished item.
-One photo of the unpainted entry.
The photos may include a few miniatures/vehicle to indicate size/use/practicality of the item only.
The maximum size of each photo is limited to 800x800 pixels.
The closing date for entries is 2359 hrs GMT on 6 December. They should be submitted to: overlord_awcATyahoo.co.uk
Initial voting commences 7 December and closes 13 December:
I will randomly group entries into several polls. The winner of each initial poll will go through to a final vote.
'Grand Final' voting commences 14 December with the final result on 20 December.
(NB. If I receive only a small number of entries, just a single round of voting will take place).
Let the building commence. Good luck!
[If you have any questions please post in this thread or PM me]

Weyyheeyy, I'm up for this one :D
One question...
I have started on a certain model but really haven't got very far with it at all and posted a photo of it here ...
http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=12709.0 (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=12709.0)
Would this be considered as cheating or not allowed (I don't mind if it is, I just want to check :) )
cheers
James

Just checking we may begin building now?
-
This is cool. I am definitely in. The fun bit is that even if the topic is extremely broad, I have no idea what to make.
-

Me too, on all counts! I'm torn between something large and splashy which I really don't have the space to build or store, and something smaller, more practical, but with less 'crowd appeal'... lol
-
I'm in but am torn between a half started model or something completely new .

I would hate to dissuade anyone from entering, particularly if only a minor start has been made, but to be entirely fair to everyone:
All construction & painting should take place during the contest, no previously built items please. The idea of the contest is to give you an incentive to build something you have just not got around to doing previously.
I will amend the contest announcement to clarify this. :)
-
Is this a scratchbuilding contest, or are kit builds allowed? Just to be clear, as it doesn't actually say anywhere.
-
I asume this is a scratchbuilding or major conversion or kit building contest?
Keith :?

It would appear that contest announcements never survive first contact with the contestants! :D

I'm in
this is the final kick on getting me started to build Orlik
I hope having bought material for it does not count as "started" yet?
-
I'm assuming it's only one entry each?
not that I'll manage mutipule entries, but will no doubt start many with my low attention spa.... ooh a balloon!
-
I hope having bought material for it does not count as "started" yet?
Not a problem. The contest is intended to encourage the building of a long intended project. If you are like me, you will have vast quantities of potentially useful scratch-building items stockpiled for all those projects you will get around to one day. :D

Yes, one entry per contestant.
-
Can we enter more than once? I'll enter a piece that is achievable so as to make sure it's done, but I'd like to try and do something a bit more adventurous too and try to get that in.
Edit: And answered while I asked :)
-

This is indeed the case ;)
but I had to make some special purchases for the gun turrets
OK
I will open a thread on "building armoured trains" soon, which will also contain the production stages for Orlik.
The schedule is pretty tight though, so I am not sure if it will make it to the dead-line, but it has started me now to finally build it, as the contest intended
-
Great :D Just the inspiration I need.
I’m in. :D
Now the difficult bit “WHAT THE HECK AM I GOING TO BUILD”???
-

yes, me also thinks, it shouldn't be too restrictive. Building of large things could be too difficult and time-consuming without using some kits. Actually, my entry (what i have in mind) will contain some parts-kit-things. Otherwise I would need years to build it from scratch :)
-
Cheers for the answer Overlord.
Right then, something else ??? ???
;)
cheers

I just started on a kit-build today, that's why I asked. But the finished article won't be different enough from the kit to count, so I guess I'll be staying out of this one. But good luck to everyone else! :)
-
Is 6mm allowed? I can make a tiny truck!
-
I'm in!
Tobi
-
Is 6mm allowed? I can make a tiny truck!
yes, of course, no limits on scale
-
Bought a large elephant model today to use as a war mammoth. The timing is too auspicious to ignore.
-
I so want to enter this, but I doubt I'm going to have time... :(
Not that I have any idea what I'd build if I did enter, it just seems like an ideal opportunity to practice some of my less developed modeling skills.
Hmmm. We'll see.
-
Hhm, sounds cool.
... and tempting.
:)
But, after reading the competition rules again, the most uncertain part for me is still: for the most part scratchbuilding, or would kitbashing (or creative gizmology, as I call it) be allowed as well? As I understood it, a project like my VSF crane constructed mainly from two kits would not be allowed, correct?
-
This sounds cool, well I was going to build a large piece of sceanery of the next couple of months, so will use that for this. I plan to build a Motte and Bailey with docks, if that is ok, which will include a bridge in 28mm scale.

not correct, I'd say just a kit without additional details and some conversion work wouldn't make much sense in this contest, but something like your crane is allowed. Please make more of these wonderful things :)
-
@Admiral Benbow
I agree with The Prof. I dont see how anyone could ignore the scratchbuilding/conversion work required to combine 2 kits and other items into your fantastic VSF crane. What would not be in keeping with the spirit of the contest would be, for example, just building the crane kit or making very minor modifications.
-
Hmmm, sounds like a challange. Now what to build. Oh I know maybe I'll build..... or maybe a.... :? Oh well I'm sure I'll think of something.
-
Ok...count me in. I usually don't finish my projects, lol, but this time it's going to be different ;)
-
I might try, if I find the time.
Where should the blogging take place please?

A great reason to do some good! THIS gives me an incentive to speed up my train-station project. Thanks!
I´m in!

I have a DVD player that just needs to be taken apart and made into something...

and what would this be?
a VSF DVD player ? ;)
-
All sounds like a lot of fun, I might have to give it a go...
now what do I want to build???
;D
-
Thank you Prof.

Yeah? Well I have three lol.
-
then build a triple VSF DVD player ;) lol
-
So, that means that if I build a 1/35 Tamiya Leopard II and paint it pink, that wouldn't work? Darnit... ;)
Definitely in. Still pondering various potential things to build, but you can count me in this time, methinks. Glad the scale is open, too.

Excellent! I'm in for this, just as soon as I can use my arm again. Had shoulder surgery today, and I plan on building something BIG!
Ok, not really that big, but I still need the use of both arms!
Excellent idea!
-

sorry to hear that :(
hope You'll gettin well soon :)

We might let you off if you chose a Panther instead of a Leo... then again, not. ;) lol
-
Greetings
transportation, huh?
Interesting fact. First I read about this I thought "how cool". Then the mind starts working and I started to swear "what does that mean, "transportation ?". I think, after a fretful night mind boggling ideas and jumbling them together... I think I will give it a try.
Thank you much
Jo
-
Thanks, former user. I tore the head of the biceps tendon, so they had to repair the tear, then move the head of the tendon to attach it to a different part of the shoulder joint so that it won't happen again. If the surgeons can do that, I can at least build some sort of transportation!
This competition is going to be a lot of fun - I'm really looking forward to seeing what everybody comes up with!
-
We might let you off if you chose a Panther instead of a Leo... then again, not. ;) lol
Well, I do like Panthers...;) I did mention the Leopard simply because it was the first 1/35 kit I ever actually "finished". It was intended to be a proxy for a Baneblade;)
Naw, I'll come up with something original. Just weighing my options.
-A.
-
Hoho, sounds fun. Im up for offering a prize! Maybe £10 credit on my shop?
-
Hoho, sounds fun. Im up for offering a prize! Maybe £10 credit on my shop?
Thats very generous Curtis. :)
In keeping with other contests, would it be OK if it is awarded to a randomly determined entrant?
-
As much as i'd like to build something i reckon i'll be too short of time for this one - have got two shows (FIASCO 1st Nov, and Recon 6th Dec) that i'm painting/building stuff for, not to mention a games weekend on my, as yet, nowhere near finished zombietown...
Still, will enjoy seeing everyone else's WIPs, so good luck everyone!
:)

Shame, as I was thinking about how I could top the aircraft carrier....maybe another time!

Gibraltar in 28 mm?
-
I have the building skills of sponge so I'll sit back and admire this comp with bib at the ready for all the drool.
-
I'm toying with entering & making a K-Wagon, but i need to have a search on the net to see if I can find enough details & if I have any thing to use for tracks (I think I have a landraider some wher that will do)
Keith :?
-

C'mon, you chicken. It isn't about building things well - it is about buildings things PERIOD. The worst that can happen is to have Matakishi, Admiral Benbow, and Jimbibbly trying to say nice things about, and wouldn't it be worth watching them struggle? I know that's my goal. This is LAF, man, no-one going to troll attack you here.
-
Well it has to be said this was a grand idea, so many threads already :)
This IS fun 8) 8) 8)
-
Yess
builds become many and storage space scarce ;)
-
Well. Suppose I'll enter this contest too, and holy carp?! He's actually going to do something? lol. Won't start until after the end of this week, already in a local painting contest and have been piling up assignments in my art class that I should be doing. But it will be fun.
Good luck to you all, and I cannot wait to see all the finished stuff! :)

Not sure what a K Wagon is?
Web search came up with this
http://imageshack.us/ (http://imageshack.us/)
Is this what you are thinking of Keith?
Came from what looks like a very good site. Some very interesting pics

Cheers for that, but I can't access the image shack picture but the forum you linked has some great WW1 tank pictures, the have the K-wagon down as a Uberlandwagon.
This is the info that i have, but i don't think that the front is quite right!

The image shack picture link is just taken from the same site. Don't know why it didn't work?
-
Well, one week into the contest and we currently have 27 WIP threads. :D
It nice to see so many people taking part and with a wide range of entries. I'm glad to see that a good few people have used it as an excuse to commence a long considered project. That was one of the aims of the contest. Hopefully a few more will join us along the way.
Paul
-
Paul, I'm sorely tempted - especially to nick Hammers' idea of a rope bridge. But in truth, having just spent several weekends bogied away in the garage building my F&IW board, I don't think the wife would appreciate me starting another project in the run-up to Christmas, when I've got a huge amount of other stuff on besides... Like directing a play which comes off in December, family stuff, not to mention the small matter of work... And painting the occasional figure of course :D
So much as I'd love to join the fun, I'm going to sit this one out and save it for next time...
But I'm loving what I've seen so far, and it's brilliant that so many LAFers have embraced the idea.
Go on chaps! I shall be watching and drooling all the way ;)
-
I'm intending to join in, but it's going to have to wait until after BLAM, all effort is currently going into the labyrinth.
-
This really sounds like a lot of fun, but I just don't think I'll have the time this time around and I'm not really sure what I'd go for in a build. Oh crap - now I've got two dozen ideas floating through my brain. Damn You!!! lol
-
hello fellow builders
it seems we are distracting from voting for the colonial tales
so vote now everyone:
http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=13776.0 (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=13776.0)
I shall advertise this in my WIP thread as well
anyone join?
-
In the presentation shots, can we include other models? The particular case I'm wondering about is that I have a bunch of stands of space-fighters painted on the heads of pins. I wanted to group them flying around my colony ship as a CSP escort, but I made them a year or more ago.

That should be fine: The photos may include a few miniatures/vehicle to indicate size/use/practicality of the item only.
Therefore the fighters can be used to illustrate the comparative size of the larger craft.
-
Huh. I must have missed that. I really did reread the rules before I asked, honest...
-
No worries. :D
-
Ok, my entry's sent in.
-
Ok, my entry's sent in.
The first of (hopefully) many. :D
I will reply to all contest submissions on individual emails. Please allow a few days as I am often away working. If you receive no response please resend or PM me.
-
I read the contest rules again and came to this:
"WIPS only please, no completed items until after the contest has ended"
Hhm, what exactly does that mean? Last photo just before ending construction? Or before painting? Or including painting, but before decals? 8)
-
as I understood, after a hot debate "completed" was established as fully painted etc
so I would guess that the final WIP pic would be the finished build
the entry includes a coated model pic and a painted model pic, right?
-
Which date was the deadline?
-
December, 6th I'm afraid.
How's the coach going?
-
December, 6th I'm afraid.
Bugger :(
cheers

Come on James. You can do it! We believe in you daddy lol
(Unless you're over with the in-laws again, which admittedly would make finishing your project a tad difficult... :?)
-
Not with the in-laws but I've got Warfare coming up and then I've got to go to Dubai for work :(
cheers
James
-
Curse you Witchhunter! I just stopped fiddling with converting some Co C Model Ts (beer truck, tanker and AA gun platform) and got back to painting after a 6 month hiatus. Now Brent tells me about this?! Son of a... :o >:( o_o
I guess I'm going to have to start now on the project I had planned to put off until early next year. Arrrggh! A pox on those people who cater to my easy failing to be distracted by other cool things! ;D ;) :D

Apologies for the delayed reply. I was away for the past week.
Ideally, no photos of the completely finished item in the WIP thread. Purely so that there is (hopefully) some wow factor when the first round of voting commences.
However, I do realise that a comprehensive WIP thread benefits from showing every stage, not least so that we can all attempt to have a go too! A major part of the contest is to see how members go about construction of a project. I'm happy that this be considered a guideline rather than a hard & fast rule.
-
OK, I'm in...
I don't know if I can finish it in time, but I'll do my best!

Thanks for the clarification.
My project consists of a fair number of individual pieces and I'd starting showing WIP painted shots. I'd overlooked that this might be a rule breach so am pleased (I think) to now be in the clear. For the final entry I'll do images of all of the items, painted and combined together.
-
I may have missed a clarification here, but since it is a 'Build Something' contest I felt I should ask:
Does the final entry need to be painted? It would obviously be more appealing that way bit on the other hand it will be harder to see how it is constructed.
-

Don't start that again, there's about three pages of this thread arguing over that point. o_o
The end decision was that the final piece should be finished completely and therefore painted as well. So one of your two final pics should be of the totally finished piece. The other picture, which can also be a composite, should be of the wip to show the build. (I think that's right anyway).

OK, sorry. Six pages of posts gets a bit overwhelming. If Paul reads this: I think Alex and Richard usually have gone back and updated the original post.
-
Pictures sent (phwhoo).
-
Just a quick reminder that you have 2 weeks left. Contest closes 2359 hrs GMT on 6th December.
Better go and start on my entry..... ::)
-
:o two weeks, better get a move on
-
I've just finished assembling my entry tonight ;D yah . I may have to do some more filling once an undercoat is on but finally I can start painting something this month. :o
-
Hello... I'd like to cast my competition entry for my shop. Would it be okay if the painted version is a cast model instead of the original?
Cheers,
Tobi
-
The answer should be yes because I asked the same thing about my entry for the same reasons, well not the selling it bit :)
-
Hello... I'd like to cast my competition entry for my shop. Would it be okay if the painted version is a cast model instead of the original?
I see no problem with that as you will have built the master. You may not be the only person to do that.
-
Casting it.....hmm...maybe a good idea... ;)
-
Right, I'm out :'(
I've got a stinking cold and have to go to Dubai for the weekend and will not have enough time when I get back. But don't worry, work will continue :)
cheers
James
-
I've got a stinking cold and have to go to Dubai for the weekend and will not have enough time when I get back.
On a positive note, in Dubai it's not cold, and you can probably see people building something.
-
We'll be out there installing a model in the Burj and hopefully (if they let us) we'll try and go to the top :)
cheers
James
-
Right, I'm out :'(
Quitter ;D
Seriously though you had better finish and show it at some point - your public demands it lol
-
I'm out too
have been sick for 3 weeks and now have to catch up with other things
but it will be done, that's for sure
just a humble question:
maybe we could have some kind of 2nd class competetion for the possibly many "quitters" of the lots who have started building?
I mean with a 2nd deadline, and the submitters in the first one can join in and show us again how fast they are and what loosers/quitters we are? To keep up the spirit?
just a thought....
-
I just wanted to say that I have been really impressed by the WIP threads so far! I wish I'd started working on something earlier.
If you're thinking of putting it off that'd be a shame!
Good luck everyone! I'm really enjoying this!
-
Just one week left to go. :o
If you can send in your entry before the deadline please do so.
If everything turns up at the last moment it will make setting up the voting for first thing Monday morning a major task.
If I do not respond to your entry straight away, dont worry. I will likely be away for a few days mid-week.
I will confirm receipt of all entries.
Good luck. :)
-
Damn, being involve in my friends wedding has taken more time than I though..... I shall find a way to make time!
-
If you can send in your entry before the deadline please do so.
But i like the sound deadlines make as they go wizzing past ;)
-
yeah, I love Douglas Adams too :-*
-
How many entries have been received thus far?
-
How many entries have been received thus far?
3....including yours. ::)
To be fair, there is still a week to go and I still haven't finished building my own entry.
As I said previously, feel free to send finished entries in now. :)
-
As I mentioned in my WIP thread, I'll be cutting it fine (and that's if I make it) but shall continue to try.
-
Mine will also (hopefully) be sliding in with minutes to spare...
-
You will get mine as well before the deadline...
-
Sorry gonna have to drop out too :'(
Couple of extra xmas orders have come into work so my limited free time just got rather more limited.
-
Hmm, my "Wirelizard goes Yachting" thread seems to have wandered off to some dark corner - it appears to have been moved to "Internal Boards", and the link doesn't work?
Hammers?

Yes, I am an idiot, tell me again why don't you. ;) Seriously, second time I do this. I've asked our admins with their god like powers to amend this.
Shall I mess with your thread to, voltan?
-
Shall I mess with your thread to, voltan?
sure :D
It'll be a bit before I can get finished now, but I'm determined too.
-
4 entries received so far. Only 3 days remaining. ::)
-
Just sent mine in :D
Keith :?
-
So thats 5, if I hadn't put the photos up my two would have made 7. ::) :( ;D
I think you will still get quite a few more and anyways no-one can claim the idea and contest has not been a resounding success.
-
Never got as much done as I expected, where does two months go, but I will be entering what I have done. Probably not be able to send it in until Sunday though, still to finish off the painting.
-
Mine is finished wxcept for painting, but I won't have time to do it in time.
Anders
-
Another Swede, by my mustard! How did you slip past us unnoticed, Anders?!
-
I'm hoping there's enough time over this weekend to paint it. Or maybe I'll just paint the left side and take photos from there!
-
Or maybe I'll just paint the left side and take photos from there!
lol
You wouldn't be the first! ;)
-
Just mailed my pics over!
Relieved at least.
Time to start the next project tomorrow: just a decent looking wood covering about a square meter of terrain.
Or maybe I'll do nothing for a change ... :D
-
That makes 6 entries so far, with less than 24 hours remaining.
Remember that the contest closes at 2359 hours GMT.
Please allow for the time difference for where you are.
Good luck! :)

Safely received. :D
The correct email address is: overlord_awcATyahoo.co.uk You need to replace the 'AT' with an @ symbol.

I just sent mine!
-
My entry has been sent.
Hopefully you will get it OK?
Never completed all I wanted to. Real life and all that.
Looking forward to tomorrow.
Good luck everyone.
-
Traveller & Gamer Mac makes 10 entries so far, with 10 hours to go. :)
-
I'm trying.... the wedding (not mine) took up more time than expected and my wife dragged me to see 'New Moon' this morning.
-
I might just make it....
-
I'm out. Just broke my saw after scewing the cuts up twice. Won't be able to get a new blade until tomorrow night earliest. I shall continue anyway but it's not going to be done tonight.
-
Phew - made it!
Hope the pics get there safely :)
Thanks for all the work you're putting into this Overlord. 8) 8) 8)
-
I second that!
and good luck to everyone who is in the finish - don't give up guys!
You all are doing brillant work
-
Just submitted mine! Need a few more pieces for the model I'll release eventually. But the essence of the car is all there...
I had to steal some wheels from the bits box, as the silicon molds are not curing fast enough in this cold. Plus, it's Sunday AM here on the West coast.. I had to pull an all nighter to get it in for GMT! Good luck to all!
Whens the next build contest!?

Well done to all the chaps who managed to get done in time. Kudos 8) :)
And to Overlord for presiding over the whole thing.
Can't wait to see the finished entries :D
cheers
James

5 hours remaining. Currently 14 entries received. :)
Whens the next build contest!?
Next!........Next?...... :o
I would need to consult with 'the Prof', but I think the interest generated in this contest would make further contests a definate possibilty.
-
Made it!
Another vote for a new contest here!
-
I sugest "Lairs" for the next contest.
-
I'd go for another contest. I failed to make the deadline on this one but I enjoyed it on the rare occasions I got to do some work. Of course, typically I thought of a better way of building the section giving me trouble after I said I was dropping out but I suspect that was because I'd relaxed :)
-
Finished the modelling, and one hour left to take the pictures and e-mail them in...
-
Dont panic! 8)
Ok panic!!!..... :o ........You have around 30 minutes remaining.
20 entries so far. 8)
-
I wonder if I can build something else in 30 minutes...
-
Wheeeeeee! Mine's postmarked 23:54!
Scraped in by my fingernails!
-
Just made it (I think). :o
-
Well all the entries are in: 22 in total. :)
I have split them into 4 groups for the first round of voting, each group having 5 or 6 contestants.
Any errors or ommisions in the polls are entirely of my doing. I am unlikely to be able to make changes without resetting the poll votes so will not do so. I apologise for anyone this might affect.
You may vote for TWO choices in each group. The top two in each group at the end of the poll will go through to the final.
(No, I dont wear my trousers like Simon Cowell :D)
I will close the first round polls at 1159 hours GMT on 13th December *. Voting for the final will start as soon as I compile the poll and will last for 7 days. The ultimate winner will be announced on Monday 21st December.
(Off to bed now as it is very late. *Remind me to set all future deadlines at midday, not midnight. ::))

I was going to comment on that yesterday!
Grand job, though, Overlord, and thanks again 8) 8) 8)

03:11 am :o :o :o
Thats dedication.
Well done Overlord.
-
Allow me to add my thanks to Overlord for the dedication to this, and for getting me to finish the first project since my mini-stroke last year.
I slid in just in time!
-
22 entries :o
Brilliant show chaps, well done all :D
cheers
James

Choosing just two per group is nigh impossible!
Looking at Group A's current results, I have to ask: what's the procedure in the case of a tie vote by the close of voting?
-
I do wish people would read the rules. It was all made quite clear - All ties will be settled by a game of High School Musical 2 Uno...

Yes, indeed! Thanks very much, Paul, for setting up this highly entertaining and thrilling modelling experience.

I do not want to know how you even knew that existed ;D
Another thank you to Overlord - job well done.
-
It is something of a wrench to part with it, but I've decided that I'm generously donating my copy so it can be the official LAF method for settling contest ties.

I say, old chap, it should be rather straightforward - last man standing after the other's heads have exploded from being subjected to this piece of abject horror wins. lol
-
I guess this means I need to get Google Wave finally, huh?
-
Good luck to everyone who finished. Some great work there!
-
Wonderful entries by all!
A big thanks to all the contestants for their time, effort and beautiful modeling!
Good show, boys!
-
I knew I should'nt have entered , :-[ . Now with no use for my APC and being off sick I've had time to come up with an idea. This will give me plenty of work at some stage but I have already drawn up plans for an underground installation . I have also worked out teams using my neglected Catachan metal collection plus I can use the newer plastic versions for victims .
I just need to con someone from my club to help me modify 40k rules for it . lol
I guess I could also use it for Doctor Who or maybe Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.
-
I wish I could have entered. The stuff I've got was near to completion so wouldn't have been appropriate for this competition. What I really wanted to make I couldn't get done in time. This is still a real challenge for my skills.

Dan, I have a theory as to why your APC is not romping away with it (apart from the ferocious competition arrayed against you, obviously)
In all seriousness, the first couple of times I lloked at that group, my eye kind of passed over your entry because it's SO good, that it looks like a resin Old Crow style model.
My brain went 'that's a resin job not a scratchbuild' - even though I know, of course, having seen the WIP, that it is indeed a very well executed scratchbuild.
Seriously - I bet a lot of people have subconsciously felt the same.
Your problem, my friend? You made it too good! ;) :D
-
Dan's APC is in a really tough group.
Got one of my two votes though. I thought it was darn right awesome!
-
Hi Ray and Captain Blood , thanks for the kind words . I'm happy to get the number of votes that I have gained . I myself know of the things wrong with the build which I think others won't see .
I would not have built the APC without this contest and it gives me a reason to use some neglected models who I bought to do an Aliens type game years ago . So its really a win/win situation for me . lol
The only problem is I'm desperately trying to finish my Future Wars project so I can start my Vietnam one which a mate keeps nagging me about . ;) I'd like to do a Demo with it so I need to start it soon .
I spent most of Friday laying out some templates and arranging pipes and walkways etc but stopped myself buying the tiles I'm going to make the floor plan with . :'(

This is the essence of the contest. Whilst there will be a "winner" of the contest, hopefully everyone that takes part is a winner as they will have built (or nearly built) something they might not have done otherwise. Everyone else gains by being inspired by other peoples projects and seeing how people use different techniques and materials.
A win all round. :D
-
A last reminder: You have 2 hours left to cast your votes. :o
Then its on to the final. 8)
-
The first round is now over and 8 entries progress to the final.
Voting will end at 1159 hours on 20th December.
Good luck in trying to pick just two to vote for. ???
A big thank you to all those that took part in the first round. :D
-
may I propose a semi-final to honour those who did not make it to the final?
just an idea...
-
Gratulations to all finalists! :) Tobi
-
BTW my comments were meant tongue-in-cheek in-case anyone was wondering .
I may give up trying to master the intricies of Irony in future :-[
What are we going to build next? lol
