Title: Song of Blades and Heroes
Post by: Frank on March 11, 2010, 01:25:48 PM
Knoxville and I had our first Song of Blades and Heroes game…and it was a lot of fun. We made some pictures. I played the kobold gang and Knoxville a group of adventures (beautiful painted). We have the German translated rules, but there is a missing line! Maybe somebody can help…I am looking for the skills of the kobold spy???

Great stuff. I'll check my rules tonight and see what the kobold spy has. You can also ask the Yahhoo Group.

Nice looking figures but I love that board  :-*

The rocks are great. Are they carved polystyrene? If so, what's your technique? The trees are roots with foliage added? What about the grass clumps?

I hereby request a workbench article for this board  :D

I love the scenery and the Adventurer gang as well. Very inspiring. SOBAH is sitting on my bedside table as bedtime reading, I think I will have to spend more time on it now!

Thanks a lot for your feedback! I will post some more pictures as soon as they are made (will take some days). There were a lot of questions concerning the rocks on the gaming table. These are prepainted aquarium / terrarium rocks! Their name is Hobby Canyon Rock and they are available in three different sizes / shapes. The trees are self-made, with wire and artificial cotton (don’t know the name in English). And yes, all the kobolds, rats and the knoll are from Otherworld. The Knoxville adventures are a mix from Heresy, Privateer, Reaper and GW.

They look very good for aquarium rocks! Had a quick Google search and Canyon Rock 1 doesn't seem to be available in the UK, 2 & 3 are, but not 1, very odd. I'll have to pop by the local pet shops and see if they have any I can have a proper look at.

Did you cover the holes in them at all or leave them open?

I have to agree with all the positive comments.

That terrain is just what I'd like my African set-up to look like - maybe with a few more trees and bushes though.

Superb  :-*

Seeing images like this reminds me why I love fantasy gaming, and SoBaH in particular!  Very nice stuff!

Who made the hooded old man?

That's an 'olde' Citadel Chaos Sorcerer, still available as one quarter of this (http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat1380006&prodId=prod1690027) fruity pack.

Amazing pics, I love expecially your tones palette: all brownish, but full of saturation... that's a great job! The highlights are few but whise... a really nice effect! :)

How big is your gaming board? because i usually play on an 90 x 90 cm table with 15mm, but maybe with the 28mm you need a very huge board... isn't it?

For 28mm the recommended size is 90x90 cm. The recommended for 15s is 60x60. :P

From the book, reproduced without permission.
The recommended minimum play area is 60 x 60cms with 15mm models and 90 x 90 cms with 25mm models.

You are right! Usually we use two of our standard game-boards (120 x 60 cm) and this 120 cm square is really big for a “normal” scenario.

I've been wondering what a larger playing area would be like. I myself don't have a standard sized table (ie 180x120), but four 50x50 boards.

BTW Frank, smashing job on the gnoll!  :-*
