Now THAT looks like it's full of all kinds of cool! Directed by Luc Besson--he's not disappointed me yet.

I don't know when I was last so thrilled about a movie about to be released. Adele is a sweetheart of mine since puberty.

o_o

Also I noticed Tintin's fetish right at the beginning, and every character from the series looks perfect in the trailer. I wasn't very happy about Louise Bourgoin, but Adèle was cuter in the first albums so that's OK.

I've never heard before about Adèle, so I'm actually quite happy with Louise Bourgoin. She might even replace Rachel Weisz at top of my list of best-looking adventuresses. Not that showing boobs would have any influence... lol
Never mind, looks quite cool, and I'm a sucker for Luc Besson's films (yes, all of them!). So this one is booked already.

Looks very spiffing. Love Luc Besson's movies. Esp the ones with his ex-wifelet, Milla Jovovovovovovich in  ;D

Mind you, the leading lady this time's not exactly Michelle Ryan is she?  ;)
Or Claudia Cardinale...

Fear not my friend. If it’s any good you can count on Hollywood to do an awful remake sooner or later ;)

If you like Adele blanc-sec don't miss other works of Tardi in similar settings,
maybe more VSF than pulp but highly recommended is Le demon des glaces

and Adieu Brindavoine

The film released last week in spain, I have seen it today.
Very inspirational and fun, makes me think in 5th Element (from Besson too) fun adventures, chases, comedy, etc.
Fun but clearly not a great movie as Inception (only to mention a recent good one)

I saw it last weekend. It was a nice pastime but nothing spectacular. No way near Indiana Jones type of quality :(

Order it on the internet. More of a period comedy than an action-adventure flick. OK, but I doubt I'll ever watch it again.
Title: Re: Les Aventures Extraordinaires d'Adèle Blanc-Sec
Post by: Hammers on February 16, 2011, 09:29:22 AM
It was entertaining but I lacks some of the qualities of the comic. Lousie is a bit too Kate Moss skinny to fill the frocks of Adele, who comes across as living up to pre Great War ideals.

The corruption and occultism comes across more as a comedy rather than the dark powers they are in the comic.

I agree an actress a bit more  "with curves on the right place" as my grandfather said, would be a great choice, like Christina Hendricks for instance,  :P
Madmen fans I'm sure will agree

with that remark I probably came across as a sexist cad but I seriuosly think they lost a lot in the production by not capturing fin de siecle/art noveau esthetics like that
Title: Re: Les Aventures Extraordinaires d'Adèle Blanc-Sec

lol, no, i don't think is a sexist comment, I agree with your idea and probably that's why my grandad quote comes to my mind.
Your comment I think is extensible to many details from the comic missing on the film.
IMHO the attitude of Adele on the film looks is closer to a "silly-rebel" nowadays teen than the too modern and independent female character from the comic, there are many other details like that on the film, Tardi worked hard to give the comic with the early XXc feeling, the level of documentation is awesome and he even included some fake newspapers, and probably Besson was not willing to point in that direction.
I think the film dont pretend to be a loyal representation from the era, more than a funny adventures blockbuster film, but after the experience to watch other films based on comic books produced on the last years (the crap Leage of Gentlement film, for instance) I was quite happy when leaving the cinema.

I think that at least her appearance was right. Adèle has changed a lot since her first adventure; she used to be thinner (and less grumpy) back then.

I love this movie and urge the readership to watch it.  Charming and wacky and fun, and I've seen it half a dozen times and bought it for my steampunk movie collection.  Don't complain it's not steamy enough or serious enough, just have fun!

Watched it laast night and quite enjoyed it - which is a nice thing, as after some films I feel that I have just wasted part of my life.

I recommend it for anybody who doesn’t take life to seriously.  :)

My wife and I finally got hold of the DVD of this and watched it. Quirky, charming and funny, it did seem to lag a bit past the halfway point, but I'm glad it lived up to most of our expectations. :)

I'd certainly watch a sequel.  ;)

Not sure that will happen, though it was left open of course, unless they change the atress as she has slipped off the radar. That said the graphic novels offer a wealth of material...

Got a good number of the comics (I'm a big fan of Jacques Tardi), but all the comments in here make me rather leery of watching the film.

If I had to choose, instead of a sequel I would prefer several new comic books from Adele, Tardi takes to long to do new albums.
Last one (Le Labyrinthe infernal) was gorgeous, it included a newspaper shape edition.
