Title: Building Robots Arms Update
Post by: Alfrik on May 02, 2010, 01:28:14 PM
Had some 3 legged mechanical Technopriest figures from Mage Knight that just, well, didn't quite fit into my pulp robot roll I had thought they would so..... Cutting and adding led to where I am with them at the moment;

I am taking Skrapwelders idea for arms to add to them; Wire wrapped with other wire to give a scaled down Flexible Tubing look to them. Not sure what to put on the end of the arms yet. More info on the bits I'm using at my site:

And of course painting and basing are ahead.

You can use guitar string as flexible tubing as well.  Low E, B, and G strings on your average electric are wire wrapped around a center wire.  Fairly cheap or free if you know someone who needs to change theirs.  Only issue is they do have some spring to them.  Meaning they do want to straighten out unless you put a good bend in them.

Ive managed to work out the 3 flex tube arms, but the central hole is jammed up with the mounting bits for the arms so the center pin shaft that originally held all them together wont fit thru. Soooo going to have to shorten the pin, glue through the center and support mount and glue set the top parts...... plus I just was loaned about 20 books to read... and the ACW2 police and dockworker units to paint!!!!

Nice conversion going on here!  8)  Sounds like a great suggestion on the wire-wrapped arms.  I'll have to experiment a bit on that idea.

Look forward to seeing your progress.

Ok arms added, but not the manipulators for the very ends. Not sure if they should be tools, or gripper / pincers?

Arms are totally pose-able, wrapped the thin wire around a paper clip, thick one, then put a smaller stiff wire inside it when I extracted the large paper clip wire.
