This is great news to me as Pontoonier seems to be more of a hobby than a business and don't reply to customer inquiries.
As the proverb goes, all things are improved with bacon, monkeys and gurkhas, so order sent!
-
Good find there. I just sold my Gurkhas off in part because I didn't think I'd be able to get more! You won't regret it Hammers. The figures are great!
-
great find just want to see some pics before i buy ;)
-
I have a few blurry shots of the Gurkhas including a comparison shot with some Old Glory here: http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?action=gallery;su=user;cat=197;u=520 (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?action=gallery;su=user;cat=197;u=520)
Somewhere on LAF is a thread with a link to pictures of greens I believe.
-

Paul in my opinion makes the best sculpts hands down

What conflict (apart from Burma) would these be suitable for? Northwest Frontier? China?
-
I think these are some of the figures available; http://s172.photobucket.com/albums/w15/paulhicks1975/?start=120
… and those are clearly marked as Pontoonier Miniatures greens; http://s172.photobucket.com/albums/w15/paulhicks1975/?start=120
Hope that help 8)

I'm sorry but the phrase British Infantry Mustache Command sent me into fits of giggles.
I take it that British Infantry Clean Shaven Command represents the leadership of their hated foes in this new Victorian take on the alt-history British Civil War thing.
-

They are intended for the third Anglo-Burma war in 1885, so I'd say NW Frontier would be fine.
Calimero, those are indeed them.
Plnkes, I believe the War for Facial Hair Equality (the prequel to the VBCW) source book will be out this fall. ;D

Go to:
http://rabbitsinmybasement.blogspot.com/2010/02/some-more-painting.html
You'll see some of the Pontoonier figures I painted for Sterling Moose. He wanted them in Home Service scarlet rather than kahki but the figures are gorgeous!
I wouldn't mind replacing my Bicorne infantry with Pontoonier sculpts some day.

@Aaron: Nicely done on the Gurkhas! I think the sculpts look nicer than my Foundry Gurkhas.
Hmmm.... maybe a SECOND battalion of Gurkhas? ;^)
-
I tried so hard to get me some of these in the past and now they are around I do not have the funds to re-instate the project :(

Now, that's a neat idea for a VSF unit... or two ;)
-
This is good news. I picked up a few of their Burmese when I went to Cold Wars and have waiting ever since for them to get their web site going. Now I'll be able to collect them from UK shows, or mail order at much reduced postage rates :D
Now to clear my credit card..
-
Me wants all of those, Newline are good guys too in my experiance.
Been looking for some Gurkhas as a loyal escort for my Lady Joanna Bumleigh....absolutely ideal.

Yes they will be along with some African Regulars. He also will have some Indian troops for the Burma campaign 1880s.

Awesome work again Mr Hicks! Can't decide which I want more - the mercs or the Burma stuff…
-
Paul,
Did you you do all the Burma stuff, even the Burmese?
-
Just ordered - - - Newline may be great, but their shipping seems extreme.
Over $39.00 to ship 70 figures to me in the USA. That is OVER 33% of my order value. PFUI.
I asked 'em to consider giving me a little break, but put the order through anyway.

Um, isn't Pontoonier an American company? Why didn't you order from there?
-
Because when you go to the company site you see this: http://www.pontoonierminiatures.com/ (http://www.pontoonierminiatures.com/) lol
Basically if you want them in the US you have to be at a convention they are trading at.

Talk about crossing the river for a bucket of water. A good example of the truly weird business practices which you sometimes find in the wargaming world.
-
Yes, they're notoriously bad for answering emails and filling orders. A shame really, they'd sell like gangbusters if they put some kind of effort into. I'm assuming they are mainly interested in getting their own needs met and then selling any extra is just cake.
May need to make a deal with Sterling if they do make Indian infantry! :D

Ben who runs Pontoonier is also a very busy business man too boot. I can assure you he has little time to sleep as well. He is not happy with the situation but has put plans in place to get it sorted. He makes sure that he goes to as many US shows as possible.
-
I don't care how hard the man works. I want my *&^&^$% toys and I WANT THEM NOW!!! :D
To be fair I had heard he has a hectic day job and the few emails I sent him received prompt and courteous replies. I hope he does get some sort of web shop opened soon. I'd love to butcher some more of your work with my brush.
-
I left this thread because I though of no interest for me,
and it would be better >:(, I have seen the Aaron Gurkhas ;D
so I think I'll have my fifth unit of Gurkhas o_o
poor me

I emailed Newline designs, because after ordering I had a moment of extreme doubt. Realized that they might NOT have the Pontoonier minis in stock yet, and that I might have unknowingly 'preordered'. They got back to me quickly to say that yes, they actually have 'em all in stock, and will ship mine out maybe next week (??).
So I'm a happy guy. I paid way more for them than I would have if I'd stumbled across Mr. Pontoonier at a US convention, BUT that hasn't happened to me yet, and nobody thinks these miniatures will be available at Historicon.
Can hardly wait for the heavy little package from Newline.

Ben will be at Historicon. He was also there last year I know I shared a beer or five with him:).

I just seriously thought about ordering, but the £26 shipping on a ~ £85 order completely put me off.

Dang, looks like I just blew it ordering from the UK. That will teach me. Should have asked here first. Guys on ColonialWars didn't seem to know, and Pontoonier is NOT listed on the H'con vendors list. PFUI Still, I will likely get the minis, so it could be lots worse.

I talked to Ben the other day. He is listed as Badger Games. I have talked to BEn about the issues you guys have said and he knows. We talked early in the year as he asked some advice and I gave him some advice on how to solve his problems. He is stepping in the right direction but running what basically is a FT business when he has a FT job has been his delay. He has found someone to work on the ongoing side of the business which is an excellent step. Hi subcontracts all his molds and casting so as long as that contractor works well for him he should be making a lot of progress going forward.
-
thanks, Lon, really good to know.
Now with many folks looking to score Pontoonier miniatures, why in the world would he list hmself as Badger Games ?
Or maybe Badger is another outfit and Pontoonier is coming in under their umbrella ?
-
I bought one of their splendid jungle huts several years back at Historicon, and have since wanted more, but their website has said "Coming Soon" for the last four or five years. Apparently they have a different idea of what "soon" means (?).
-
70 or so figures will weigh approx 1.5kg, the airmail small packet rate for that is £18.75 going up to £23.37 if it hits the 2kg mark.
Mailing to the US is expensive sadly.
http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/content1?catId=400036&mediaId=53800712
He isn't making much if anything on those postage rates, but you US customers are getting a good deal on the low value of Sterling on the exchange rates. (£1.00 was $1.44 yesterday).
-
Thanks for letting me know, Rapierminiatures.
Chick
-
Newline doesn't seem to have their excellent resin jungle type huts though (?) am I missing something?
-
Any news on those mercenaries?
Can't find them on the Newline site... :?
