As part of the Victorian build project I promised myself a bank so set to work a few weeks ago. For the front I used one of Paul Smith's excellent frontages available from Outpost Wargame Services.
As this build developed I realised the generic nature of the frontage and the way I had designed the rear yard gave the building more than a single identity so now it's a bank or police station or posh house or hotel depending on the scenario. Tadaaa!
The skylight on the rear extension will be handy for breaking into the building or escaping depending on what it's used for.
The frontage is resin and the frame is a mixture of foamboard and foamed PVC. The brickwork is embossed plastic and the roof cardboard.
Here's the basic design:

The roof was a pain in the arse as I haven't built one with this shape before. I decided to use a frame to ensure the structure had equal angles. To be honest it didn't really work but I blame it on cider. Note to self: dont drink cider and build a roof.

I've finished the front and added lighting, railings etc. I haven't decided what to do with the windows yet. The roof is still to be painted.

Here's the back. Nowhere near as exciting as the front I'm afraid. Cobblestones for the yard and a gate have yet to be added before the paint is slapped on. The walls look wonky because they aren't glued in place yet.

I wasn't going to post any pictures until the build was completely finished but I need the incentive to get it finished as my mind is already wandering on to the next build.....

Stonking stuff. Where did you get the crenelations?
-
TC thats just class and thanks for reminding of these frontages I had forgoten all about them and I think I'll treat myself to a few :) but whats the betting they get "filed" alway in a box somwhere to be "discovered" weeks or months in the future :D wish I had the motvation of some LAF members.
-
Effing brilliant, Your builds just get better and better. :-* I can't wait to see the whole ensemble ;D
-
Thanks chaps, much appreciated.

The ones on the front?
-
Stunning work there old bean :-* :D :-*
Paint the windows with a little bit of dark blue/grey and then coat with gloss varnish.
Oh, one more thing...
Stop making cool stuff, you're out doing us all :D
cheers
James

Marvellous work, Chiefy. You're getting a bit blinking good at this :o
Show us the whole town!
-
The master builder at it again :o :o :o
Lovely stuff. :-* :-* :-*
Where did you get the fence out front and the spikes on top of the wall from?
I think the detail out the back is great. The stairs and the sky light really finish it off.
-
wow!
i really like that!
and i love how the roof came out!
-
Delicous :-* :-* :-*
-
I like that a lot!
-
Blinkin marvelous!
-
:-*
Wow!!!
That is fantastic work. A beautiful building with a great back side!
Well done, matey.
-
Ooooh, thanks for the generous comments chaps. That's my inspiration back! :)
Paint the windows with a little bit of dark blue/grey and then coat with gloss varnish.
Thanks matey, I'll give that a go.
Show us the whole town!
I will make it so.
Where did you get the fence out front and the spikes on top of the wall from?
I got the fence from this seller on ebay (lots of other fences and goodies in their shop):
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2-Metre-model-fence-Scale-1-100-F100-4-/120436991609?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item1c0a9aa679
The fence arrived in seven days and a bargain for two meters of the stuff! For the walls it's easy to cut the top strip with the spikes from the rest of the fence, once done stuck each strip straight onto the wall.

Brilliant!
-
That's fecking nice! Good addition to your town.
-
That's a rather nice house.
-
Great building!
:-*

I blame it on cider. Note to self: dont drink cider and build a roof.
Actually it was cider that lead me to marriage, camping in Cornwall and a 2 litre bottle to be correct.
And by the way, is there a more appropriate drink when building a Victorian house?
-
Thanks again all. :)
I've set myself the challenge of finishing it tomorrow. The girls are away visiting relatives till Tuesday, the plan was to drink beer and indulge in a sci-fi DVD fest but I'll finish the build instead. Then again........ ;)

lol Very ture. Cider also led me to camping then I forgot where I pitched the tent. Happy days.
-
That is absolutely brilliant!!!!
I love the blending of the resin parts with the others to make a very convincing and attractive building. Would make a fine town residence or a more official building. I also really like the detailed back and the railings........ In fact I love all of it.
You are a very talented gentleman.
Regards
PM
Btw I have looked at those resin bits before and thought they looked a little modern for what I was looking for. You have proved me wrong. Excellent!
-
Beautiful build. Love the details. Love that it can be used for different types of buildings too.
-
Superb work Neil :-* :-* :-*
-
Thanks guys. :)

Another good tip is stick a gas lamp on it. Never fails. ;)
-
Absolutely gorgeous! :-*
-
this looks great...that frontage really is superb but you've blended it in very well with some superb modelling. If anything I think I prefer the back!
thanks also for the tip on that railing..have to get some of that..do they have several designs?
-

They have oodles of designs. I think Svennn put me on to them as he used some of their railings for a VSF build.

What a fantastic piece, I'm looking forward to seeing it 'in the flesh'. If you want to bring it over in March, along with my toys, I'll be sure to look after it for you.
-
Great stuff. Every piece you do gets better than the last. Hat's off to the roof work. I know what a pain in the arse that thing is.
Cider and redheads are two of the worlds most dangerous things. When mixed, in even the smallest of quantities, they can bring about utter ruin.

That got my attention!

The back is complete, just some weathering to add. I'll put a group shot together at some point in the week when I've completed the finishing touches.

FANTASTIC!!love the the finished brickwork, who makes the lamps you have over the doorways?
-
Look at the skylight! I guess you don't really need to be told by this point, but that is a seriously nice piece. Very convincing indeed.
-
As said before, I really like the way you set-up the back!
Gives the building lots of character.
Well done! :-*
-
Great work :-* :-* :-* :-*
Some lovely nice touches.

Museum quality Mr Chicken. Brilliant :-*

Thanks for the comments chaps. Very much appreciated ;)

I get the lamps from Langley Models. Here's the link for you, lots of goodies here (search under wall lamps):

If you want to do them on a budget gamer Mac came up with a clever solution:

I see this productive run coming to a schreeching halt when M decides that H needs a dolls house!!
lol lol lol

That's a great find TC (langly models). They even have working streetlight!! ;). ........you know, for those dark Victorian nights when bank robbers and the likes roam.
How does the 1/43rd stuff compare to 28mm?

Scale is a personal preference, but I prefer smaller vehicles on the board (I agree with the good Major on this one), so I think 1/56 is a good size. I find even 1/48 too large at times. But others disagree and I am certain they will pop up in this thread and comment so.

Its hit and miss as I've found to my expense. Many of the street lights are adjustable but can be a bit pricey. The wall lamps work well as do some of the other accessories such as the bollards. I recently purchased some 1/43 post boxes from them and they are way too large so will have to be cut down to size. The owner is very helpful and will always respond to queries.

Nutter!
Really lovely!
-
Another beauty, really looking forward to seeing a table top layout of yours... why I'd even lend you my smoke machine so you can get a right pea-souper.
I always have trouble with roofing, it's getting better build by build but I'd not even try a saddled or hipped roof like this one just yet.
As others have noted I think your work is better than the bought. 8)

Wonderful work! :-* :-*
