So i'm modding Mordheim for the sole reason of allowing more ranges of models to take part in fights (e.g. to allow warbands to take, pets, minions, monsters, allies, etc.) along with trying to fix the armour issue. I started with Coreheim... then re-wrote a lot of the rules back to standard Mordheim and tweaked a few of my own, and now i'm working on the warband lists, whilst throwing random figures together to decide what looks "right" in a warband.....
Anway this is a Modelling thread so here we go:
First point to make is that i'm aiming for 30mm, 32mm scale so I can use Privateer press models (as I have a load of them) and Reaper figures. Main reason being is I have collected a lot of figures over the years which I have never actually used.... The majority of human figures will come from GW, but be converted to scale up to 30mm (not hard seeing as the heads, feet and hands are already there!!)
Warband 1: Southlanders.
The southlanders are very wealthy; they fight dirty and are just as willing to stab you in the back if it means they get there way rather than face you in honourable battle.
The warband to date:

The swordsmen & champion (the padded bits on thier left arms are where the shields will go once I have painted the models).

The marksmen: (swapped heads with swordsmen as I wanted 4 helmets the same for the swordsmen & champ)

More to come, I have at least 4 warbands on the go presently....

Looks great so far! I love the mage, where is he from?
-
Looking good so far.
-
Thanks for the comments guys.

Rackham / Confrontation.
-
Very nice, but you should just call it Cadwallon and be done with it... ;)
-
I was just thinking "these look more like Rackham than Games Workshop" 8)
-
Here is one of the elf factions so far:
Only one figure has realy had any conversion work worth mentioning which is this lass, converted from a Reaper Grey Maiden.
And a preview of another faction:

I am mighty keen on what you have produced so far. Looking forward to seeing more.
-
Nice work on teh kitbashing. The Swordmen are great, and I love the kneeling down marksmen- where are the legs from?
-
there plastic 40k caden Imp guard legs.
-
Great looking project! :-* :-*
-
Who made the Girl in the South lander warband? Can we get a close up pic of her also?
-
there plastic 40k caden Imp guard legs.
Catachan actually, with the pockets shaved off :)
Who made the Girl in the South lander warband? Can we get a close up pic of her also?
Sorry missed her didn't I.
GW militia legs shaved down / Demonette kitbash with wood elf head and arms, I had to resculpt part of the hand on her hip (head is 2nd attempt as the first one had a face mask which I carved off, looked ok in plastic but didn't work well when painted).
I have added a picture in the first post.
-
That's a vary good kit bash, I would never have guessed its origins.
-
Some interesting conversions there! Looking forward to seeing more.
-Michael
-
Nice conversions! I love seeing Mordheim stuff. :-*
I can't wait to see them finished.
Please keep us updated and post more pics. :D
-
If you insist :P lol
Here is what one of the marksmen looked like before I decided to go Crossbows instead of Handguns (And swapped their heads with the swordsmen):
And the other:
Here is the first 2 northlanders unpainted. You can barely tell in this photo but thier torsos have been extended to give them more realistic proportions (e.g. make them 30-32mm rather than "heroic" 28mm):
And the assassin prepaint with the previous head after carving and greenstuff:
And because it's frankly unfair to post a new post without anything new to the thread in it, here is a dwarf conversion that I wont be using for this project (doesn't scale well for 32mm (too short)), but would be good for traditional mordheim ideas :).
I should have a "proof of concept" dwarf up before too long, they are after all my favorite race.
-
So I've upgraded the champion to be the captain (because I still can't decide on the other Heros for the warband (e.g. will the assasin and mage be heroes...).
And here is (hopefully) proof of concept on some dwarves (yes the bottom one has no right hand yet):
-
VERY NICE WORK! Your pieces look just as TERRIFIC here as on T.B.M.F..
-
some great conversions here! :o
keep going!
-
So as the southlanders almost hit the painting desk I have finished 2 of the dwarves, hopefully I can undercoat them today as well.
I did some more work on the rest of the dwarves, here is one of the Heros (probably the leader)
2 more girls, one shieldmaiden one more quareller
(https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-oLi7e9plQZs/T4q2GONHuFI/AAAAAAAAAMY/5693Cs3V140/s640/15.043.jpg)
I have 2 of these guys who may well find thier way into the dwarf warband too (30mm bases BTW as there is nothing for scale).
I purchased a boxed set of the Avatars of war plastic beserkers for conversions, I knew I didn't want to use them as dwarves, but I hit on another idea. I present to you my first Red Cap Gnome, nasty violent things, the Red caps. The Red cap beserkers are the worst of the bunch and this fella is no exception.
Once they kill thier victims they soak their caps in their victims blood, hence the name (not sure if that is actual myth or D&D fluff there, anyone know?).
and lastly a couple of random things, from various warbands
(https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-NM95I_FjARk/T4NJy0LfGHI/AAAAAAAAALo/rT4RpuuHLOY/s400/DSCN0788.JPG)
These two will be part of the forest elf type faction; a sapling and treeling
(https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-mR2pp81YFo4/T4q3Bv7U47I/AAAAAAAAANQ/Z3-DWsjVWAE/s800/DSCN0827.JPG)
-
@ maxxev
Redcaps are actuall myth, not just D&D fluff ;)
Your versions look good so far, I'm also looking to convert me one for my Steampunk setting.
Will follow that project :)
-
Very cool. I particularly like the dwarves.
-
Yep the Red caps are totally a myth :P
-
Ohh Really like the Red caps. I must say that is is a brilliant use of the over sized goblin heads. Might steal this idea of yours ;)
Keep up the nice conversions.

I agree, becase they were some nasty little fellows.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redcap
Now I am might just use them in some futur project myself, but just not use the dumb part were they die with there hat ever gets dry.
-
To be fair the idea for the gnomes originated elsewhere:

What line are the female dwarfs from?
Great work BTW.

I am sold I love your work here so far! I will be watching your work very closely.
-
The southlanders are now mostly painted (no photos sorry).
I have got some sea deamon thingys recently (these http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=40635.0) from Manic Miner via eBay, which will join my MODheim fishmen (GW river trolls, Wyrd Slurid (probably) and PP Bog Trogs).
Still thinking about how to do other gnomes without using the AoW plastics (to get them smaller). Not really sure how to do that... lol
It alost apears the Vampire model I had arranged to purchase via this forum for one of the Undead warbands has got lost in the post, which is extremely annoing (along with a cool witch model and some Discworld minis for my other half). Very frustraiting, i'm giving it until the end of the week as it's from Finland (I think) but it's been almost a month already :(.
Hoepfully i'll get to Salute this saturday to purchase some other bits for various warbands (alongwith some more 30mm bases), getting some more wood elf types for certain and some undead cultist types, possibly some wtich hunter types and maybe an earh elemental.
-
I would also suggest Fenris games Deepones to go with the Fishmen. They should work really well.
-
Great idea on the fishmen!!!
-
So... I just landed another warband into the mix... lol
Picked up some Wargods Typhon spear guys pretty cheap which meant I could spent a little more on the rest of the models (I still spent too much, but nevermind, I didn'y pay RRP at least lol).
So I bought enough for a reasonable warband... no idea what I will do with the musician from the unit though...lol.
Also picked up some wargods Ghouls (very cheap on eBay (Ł1.25 a model), they will fill a gap in my Gargoyle warband :) I still have more gaps if anyone has any suggestions....I bought the Rackham gargoyles(metal) when Rackham went under so I didn't pay full price for them either lol.
-
The Wargods miniatures are great sculpts.Looking forward to seeing updates on this project.
-
Almost forgot that I picked up some slingers a taskmaster and guard type slaves from Dark age games to go with the 10 spear guys I already had.... so that's another one to add to the list.... Another bargin with these guys, got them at the old price, and discounted (stock clearence at Hurlbat games in the Uk), Ł5.50 for 5 models (for the slingers, the rest were more, the spear guys I bought years ago, again on clearence for not very much... :)).
Any suggestions for these guys beast(s)?
Hopefully at the weekend after Salute (where I can spend even more money) I can get some photos up of the southlanders in their current state, maybe even a painted dwarf on Monday.
Thankfully I made a fair amount when I sold off my LOTR Dwarves last month so I have some hobby money at the moment.
-
The Darkage pieces could be used as an insect type warband.

Yep :).
Here are the Southlanders so far, I need to work on the faces more and after getting this far I realised that the Marksmen need quivers... der.. lol.

-
Maybe just stick a few quarrels into the ground, bowman-style? That's not really accurate for crossbows, but might do as a way to avoid actuallu having to re-convert the figure.
Alternatively, because they're kneeling, you could just put the quivers on the ground, as if they've taken them off for a better range of movement while crouching.
-
I am really liking these warbands - lots of character.Looking forward to seeing them all finished and displayed en masse.
-
Well i'm afraid i've not had any inspiration this week and with Tidying the spare room for guests and playing on a game all of yesterday I don't have anything new to show.
Painting the house next week (please excuse bare plaster in photos below), so probably not much of an update then either.
But I didn't post these pictures last week so at least I can update on the project.
It boils down to; I have a lot of stuff ready to paint basically:

Very cool stuff here! I love the gnome conversions. What parts did you use?
-
That metallic finish works very well on the fishy types.
-
For smaller gnomes, I wonder if some 15mm minis could work or possibly better something in 1:72/ 20mm (Ceasar has some placcy dwarves, scroll down a bit: http://www.miniknight.com/caesar.htm). Not sure how small you want them to be though.
There's also the old Grenadier plastic dwarves (http://www.em4miniatures.com/acatalog/Copy_of_Fantasy.html), not sure how big they are though.

Hi, i think they are probably too small for what i'm thinking. I've ordered a box of Kings of war dwarves to se if I can use thier legs + greens stuff an more night goblin legs to make some more... cultured... type of gnomes (or at least non-beserker type).
-
Very cool stuff here! I love the gnome conversions. What parts did you use?
Cheers, the legs, torso and arms are from Avatars of War (Dwarf Beserkers), the head is from the GW OOP night goblins with a beard from the OOP Dwarf warrior boxed set.
Other bits include the weapons heads from the current GW dwarf warriors (or thunderers, can't remember which) musician's horn and a cloak carved from a GW chaos warror, the other bit of cloak was from m bits box, origin I can't remember.
-
Ah, cool. Thanks, I thought I recognized some the parts. You've done an excellent job of combining the gobbo and dwarf heads together.
-
Sorry to anyone expecting pictures, this is not a picture update.
I need some help coming up with ideas for the Gnome warband list here is what I have so far:
Blood Gnomes
3-15 members
No Type
Heroes
1 Blackcap (leader)
0-1 Bloodcap Champion
0-1 Madcap (Mage)
0-2 ?????
Henchmen
Unlimited Bloodcap Warriors
0-6 Spore hunters (the mushroom guys (converted to have ranged weapons))
0-3 Bloodcap Beserkers
Minions
?????
Monsters
?????
I have no idea what minions (non-experience gaining creatures (like warhounds, skeletons)) or Monsters to give them so any thoughts (on both list entries and models) would be great please
-
An update for you guys.
More photos in my Blog (I thought it was about time I started one).

The Gnomes are definitely my favorites; now those are proper noses. SPLENDID WORK!
-
Well while I finish up another couple of conversions for hopefully the end of this weekend, I would really like some thoughts on my proposals for scenario generation and thoughts on a Warband recruitment type table thingy, feel free to coment here or on my blog, but the images are on my blog (because it's easier that way).
You can find the post in question here: http://maxxev.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/modheim-city-of-legends.html
Thank you in advance for your thoughts.
Cheers.
-
An update with an actual picture this time lol :)
I have finished (apart from the bases) the first models for my Fishmen.

Sweet Fishmen Maxxev! What range?
-
Large guys are GW river trolls, small guys are Privateer press Bog Trogs.
-
Thanks!

Inspired by a thread over on ATT (Tau forum) MANY years ago.... I finally got around to making my own:
I present one MATO. As per usual, more angles and a link to the creator on my Blog.
-
Oh wow! is that some kind of crab thing?
-
Bascially yes, that is pretty much what i'm calling it. a Crab thingy. But the original creator called them "Mato", so that's what i'll call them too.
-
"MATO" I like it
-
Mid-Atlantic Treaty Organisation?
I look forward to seeing that one painted up.
-
That crab-thing is deliciously weird 8)
-
Latest WIP from my blog, a "terrortoise" (name suggestions welcome) as usual there are more angles / pictures on my Blog.
Cheers.

The Crab Creature & the Tortoise Fellow are both VERY COOL & IMAGINATIVE pieces...I too am looking forward to seeing them all painted up. VERY WELL DONE!

Well I would suggest if you are going to make, say at least, four total I would give one a bo-staff, one a couple of swords. Another dual nunchukas and maybe the final one a pair of sai's. :-)

I love that tortoise! If you're still looking for names, how about "Terrorpin"? Rubbish, I know.

2 Already made (minus arms), 2 on the work bench, may well make more than that, depends on whether they will make up the core or specialist part of a warband.

Got around to getting some paint on the dwarves, sorry about the picture quality, new camera in bright sunshine didn't work out too great, but there are better shots of the individual models on my Blog.

Update for the southlanders today, also my first try at orange OSL.... it didn't turn out great lol.
The pages.

Love them all, but esp the gnomes and Southlanders. Great conversion on that assassin.

Just a quick paint in progress preview of the upcoming undead. Cheers for looking.

Oooo, who does those skellies?
-
I love that model on the right. That looks like a proper barrow-wight to me.
-
So I did a bit of work on the necromancer warband yesterday, finished basing them for undercoating this morning.
I really like how these came out, they were pretty quick conversions (only 1 day... lol) after I identified all the parts I needed.
I have had necron heads in my possession a VERY long time for these conversions, originally they were going to be used in my fringe wars project, but I knew as soon as I put cultists into my Undead warbands that those necron heads would come in handy!
Cultlists were included by the way so as to give the option of experience gaining henchmen to various warbands that were otherwise devoid of that.
You can see more pictures / angles here:

They look really cool. Can't wait to see them painted. Nice and sinister...
-
Oooo, who does those skellies?
Missed that comment, sorry.
The bane on the left is from Privateer press, he's the merc one.
The Litche on the right was a Limited edition CMoN figure from a few years ago (one of the ones that has actually sold out).
Cheers.
-
Wow love the greenstuffhoods! How did you do them?
-
I agree with Mo!; i.e., the hoods are both fine sculpts & add to the sinister nature of the minis. The skull masks are an inspired touch. WONDERFUL WORK! I won't say "have FUN painting", although I just did.
-
Wow love the greenstuffhoods! How did you do them?
I came up with these after seeing this thread, and the hoods are about half way down:

Great conversions, and great idea using the Necron-heads.
Was allways planning to make me a "Brotherhood of Khaine" warband, will steal that "Necron-head-idea" for them ;)
-
I just had a guy on Warseer who said he'd wished i'd posted these conversions a year ago, then his brotherhood of khaine army would look very different... lol
What is the brotherhood of khaine..../
I wasn't expecting to get these "done" today (I still ahven't decided on how to finish the bases), but I did quite well for me, painting all 4 cultists, finishing off the Bane and painting the Necromancer I had only undercoated previously!
As per usual, more picces on the blog.
Also trying to work out a scheme for the terrortoises, what do you think of this scheme? (e.g. dark red and bone, like the 'Nid scheme)
-
The "Brotherhood of Khaine" or "Kult of Khaine" is a humans worshipping to Khaine, god of murder.
They travel around the country disguised as mercenaries, merchants and that like, and sacrifice their victims to Khaine.
While they are doing their killing/worshipping they are wearing masks to not been recognized by witnesses.
-
Man that undead warband looks good. Can't wait to see it finished. :D

I think the turtle turned out really nice. I like those colors.

Just a quick update for the fishman, i've completed the 2nd hero (first one being the bog trog leader type).

I doubt anyone would have expected this paint job, right?

Maxxev, my man, you're production speed is blowing my mind!
I'm totally sold on your fishmen. And I absolutely LOVE the skeleton with the great sword! Where did you get him?
I'm usually pretty meh about undead. That one is my new exception. :D

Quite happy with how he turned out despite the fact that he looks lke he's going to give someone a big hug....
2 more Gnomes in the works if I can scrape together the inspiration to finish them, particularily when it comes to weapons.

That is GREAT, IMAGINATIVE & VERY COOL! I'm starting to look at tall those Night Goblins pieces I have in backlog differently...they're starting to look nervous.

Keep 'em coming!

That dryad is the bees knees! :-*

Cheers guys.
I have posted up this photo before in other places so I appologise if you have already seen it, but I've not made much progress on anything new (not enough to bother with new photos) so I have posted up something old.
There are a couple more photos on my blog.
These guys are the Northlanders (main rivals to the southlanders).

Well i'm planning on trying to run the Vampire hunters campaign that the Wargame weaver blog put up.
So the campaign needs some NPCs to represent members of the town, here is the first of them (also would work fine as a soutlander): Captain Diedrich

Looking damn spiffy as always Maxxev. Really like this one. I just don't really like the pistols but that ain't your fault. Don't like their length. But I do like the concept of this conversion. Keep it up. Looking forward to more models. Each time I see more posts here I remember how much I love Mordheim and miss playing it and all the wonderful minis come from it. :-)

Cheers :).
If it makes you feel any better they are Duelling pistols rather than bog standard ones.
Well if you miss it, start playing it again!! lol

Yeah yeah yeah i know what they are "supposed" to be. It is the only thing i hate on the new GW Duelist sporting the same things. To me dueling pistols are much smaller with much shorter barrels. Of course the ones on the GW Duelist are quite beefy as well.
And i would love to start playing it again. Just no populace around this area that play it. Which i find funny as where i am located. Would love to get into a league to boot. Same goes with Blood Bowl and Necromunda as well.
Because of this topic i have been trying to hunt down all the different warband rules. Since the Specialists site isn't up any more it is proving to be harder than i was hoping for. :-(
Also been looking for models. First i was looking for was a Beastmen warband. Been looking on eBay for bitz and bobs to buy as i dont have any Beastmen minis.

No I don't actually, though I know the figure you are talking about.

Well no undead army is complete without Zombies and you need a heck of a lot of them for the Vampire hunters campaign (about 25, which is a lot considering I don't play undead lol).
Therefore I went with Mantic, for the fact that ... well the figures are a lot better than GWs old Zombie kit, and they are REALLY easy to assemble.
Only one pic of these guys, but I also have a pic of the latest skellies on my blog.
I also finally some Vampires at last (kind of important for a Vampire hunting campaign lol), no photos yet though.

I have decided to use the gnomes as Black Dwarves in mordheim, and as there is a campaign kicking off soon at the Worthing club I have to figure out swiftish how to make a gnome compatible bull centaur stand in.... any thoughts??

Nice work on those two. Is the bottom of the banshee part of the coven throne vampire?
The gnome looks cool too. I may not have read it but is it a goblin head with a beard?
Double question oops :)

Nice undead. What company does the vampire come from?
It's a GW figure, on my blog i've been informed that it usually has a dragon on the top of it's helmet (it was 2nd hand).
Cheers

It's been very nicely removed then. The dulled tone to the armour of both thhose miins is great.

I had a moment of madness last night / this morning... I should really have been finishing the three terrortoise paintjobs but instead I decided to chop up an Ł8 model....
The resulting madness however i'm pretty happy with :).
The Deathcap, leader of my gnome warband, any min now he's going to realise some bugger has stolen the head of his weapon right out from under his nose.....
Conversion uses the Avatars of War Chaos Dwarf Hero type metal figure, and OOP GW Night goblin head / hood and some GS.
I was going for an executioner type hood look, which is kind of what I've got.... he needs a bit more putty on the left hand side where I managed to cut a little too much off when shaving a bit of excess dried putty off :(.
I wanted to do an armoured gnome for the warband's leader in MODheim, plus using them as black dwarves in border town burning means there is a chance I might get some chaos armour, in which case the model can get used there too. It means i'm down one chaos dwarf hero, but then he's really too tall vs. all of the chaos dwarves i've converted so far anyway!
-
Don't worry about him being bigger, just use it as a descriptive plot device. Say he was said to be gifted of the gods for his size.
-
Don't worry about him being bigger, just use it as a descriptive plot device. Say he was said to be gifted of the gods for his size.
I meant actual chaos dwarves, not the gnomes :), he's bigger than the chaos dwarves I converted a few years ago.
Although he is bigger than the gnomes too, not as much, but like you said, he's either gifted or he's just a big gnome :).
-
:-* that is great. Definitely an executioner
-
very nice conversion Maxxev! :-*

Cheers guys.
Ok, back to a bit of terrain building, with WIP no.2.... have you yet got the impression that I don't really finish anything and move onto other things instead.... :(, I can't help it....
Anyway, for your viewing pleasure here is the WIP, going to be 2 storey this time:

Nope you were right first time, black head. I will vary the paint scheme a little on all of them to add variation.

The black blotching on the skin ooks great as well.

These are looking great!

Thanks guys :).
Ok the last Terrortoise for a while is the bonehead (a happy push mold / sculpting accident on his head).
Different colourings again (variation is the spice of life (plus I used the wrong paint lol).

An un-original idea this time, pinched from a thread over on the Dakka Dakka forums: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/410809.page. (http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/410809.page.). There will be a fair amount of Greenstuff work on him before he's finished though.
I have made a start on a couple more guys so should have some more progress shots at or before next weekend depending on the weather (read: light source).
As per usual, more angles and the list of parts on my blog.

Very interesting. They could probably work with the Kroot guns as well just as long rifles. The savage look of the Kroot make them perfect for a WH setting.

Nice idea with the kroot. They look nice.

Very cool. I love how you've converted that Kroot Rifle.

Cheers beefcake, though there is very little of the rifle left :).
This is all i've really done recently:
But I took this of the gnomes (sorry about the lack of focus, my fiancee has taken my old camera up to her uncle's retirement do so i'm using my new one which I still haven't figured out):

All parts are listed on my blog :)

Cheers. That spear really is very effective. I wonder if I have any in my bits box ???
-
Great work maxxev!
I love what you did with the Kroots!

Been a bit slow this week but I got a couple of things to show, however due to DST i'm not going to be able to get any new photos until the weekends so i'm going to stagger the release of photos so I don't end up going a week without blog updates like I did this week....
First up a female vampire for the vampire hunters campaign (more angles on the blog).
The next guys (Northlanders) are now almost fully painted but I didn't finish in time for photos today so you'll have to cope with the WIP shot until I can get one.

Dig the north Landers, I did the same thing to make some steelhead cpts for an IK RPG game. :D
-
Dig the north Landers, I did the same thing to make some steelhead cpts for an IK RPG game. :D
Got any piccies?
I wish there was someone near me running an IK RPG game, i'd love an excuse to convert me up some Rhulic :(.
-
Sadly no, they are currently in storage in the land of uncompleted projects.
-
Ok another update, this time to the Kroot / Birdmen warband, trying to get a bit more dynamism (is that a word)... into the warband, one more angle on the blog:
-
I've converted up another NPC for the Vampire hunters campaign, the Kislev scout who recruits the warbands to come to the aid of the village.
Scouts also have additional rules in the campaign and can provide an early warning system for the village should the undead forces attack.
-
More northlanders to add to the 4 already completed, these guys still need more paint work though (I painted them at night, and my lighting arrangement is not at all great).
There's a rear angle on the blog too ;).

Great stuff!!
-
Cheers for the comment :).
An update today on the second to last NPC I need to make for Nachtdorf (for the vampire hunters campaign).

Thanks for looking.

My latest paint job, pretty happy with this one, it's a re-painted Privateer Press Monsterpocalypse Crustaceor :). More angles on the blog.
this next one is an oldie, but I think the I will recycle this conversion and some new wolf beast conversions into the project (re-painted). Another angle on the blog.
-
You should! The crustacean and wolf look great.
-
Thank you, I just put 3 more wolf guys on the work in progress table today, the problem at the moment though is I realy haven't felt like doing any sculpting, i've a number of models now just waiting for some putty to finish them off (mostly krrot) :(. I must pull my socks up and get on with it!
-
A Small amount on progression on the terrortoise, and another lobster beast:

Lot's of fun stuff on this thread.
I will be following it with interest.
-
Terrortoise update (more angles on the blog). This is the model i'm likely going to use as the leader, he needs more gear on him and a weapon (obviously) but he's pretty much there now.
-
Amazing job on everything you've done in this thread.
-
Thank you :).
And the next faction is.... (note this not an original idea).
I really must finish something..... at some point. Rear angle, link to the guy who came up with these conversioins and parts list on my blog.
I haven't yet figured out what weapon combos to put on them, hence the lack of arms, the choice is dependent on wether they will make up thier own warband or be a part of another warband (e.g. if they are core troops or will make up a warband's specialists, or something) I still need to figure that all out.
-
An update!!!
I painted some of the NPCs for the Vampire Hunters campaign :).
More angles on the blog, sorry for this fuzzy photo!

-
There is some wonderful stuff on here since I last checked in, maxxev.
Full of wonder, but that Lobster/shrimp thing is amazing!
:-*
I may need to steal some of that construction when I get around to a Deep One Cult...eventually.
;)
-
I reckon the brown looks like a good skin colour

Cheers for the comments guys.
Pretty much finished this guy now, ready to lead the bloodcap gnomes, more angles on my blog as per usual :).

Brilliant conversion and nice pj! 8) Very effective!
May I suggest some verdigris on his armour?
-
FISHMEN!!!
I now have 22 of these little blighters :), I have also ordered some of the minion warbeasts for the Blindwater contract (Privateer press gaame "Hordes"), so I will have a small army to use the fishmen with soon enough....

Managed to paint Gerhardt Lowenherz, Militia Sgt for the Wargame Weaver Vampire hunters campaign, one more NPC character to model up (parts for which are on the way) and then 2 guys to paint :).

Nice work on those Sisters, Maxxev, they look great!
:-*
I like the progress on the crossbowmen too, nice posing.
-
Thank you :).
The sisters were pretty easy to paint with the army painter quick shade though lol, a couple of different colours of brown, flesh, black, random hair colours and metals, quick shade (browns / flesh / Gold / Reds) Badab black (Silvers / Greys (Hair bands and some pouches)) = done.
Only took a few evenings to finish.
-
Grrrr Argh...

I do like the Mantic Zombies, easy to assemble, easy to paint and very effective.

Looking good. Sisters are my fav in Mordheim. But the colors aren't my fav of the different order of Sisters.
But still a very effective and well painted force i must say. Especially in the time it took you to do them up. :-)

Do you like the red scheme better?
I was toying with the red / cream scheme but as the sisters are not my favorite warband (though I love the minis) and I have already used red on the Southlanders.

Just remember you can tred on these guys :) lol.
-
I hope to undercoat these now finished Sisters along with the Bertha model I dug out of my lead pile (to proxy as the last Sister Superior I need for the warband) to finish off the warband.
Technically I think they could still need one more sister for a full roster.... I'll just hope the warband doesn't do that well... lol :).

Man your asking me to do some long term remembering. My books are still packed away, 2yrs now some day i need to unpack, but i think it was the Order of the Martyred Lady i liked best. I do think it was the white/red scheme actually. The browns are too muted for Sisters. Flaggies and monks for sure. Sisters have to look their best and stylin as they are bringing the word of Sigmar to the unwashed filth of Mordheim. :-)
But as much as i love the Sisters their hammers i have never loved. The design of the one-handers just have always irked me. Wish they had a different design to them.

Nice work. I always wanted that bones warm to mount a surfing necromancer on top
-
That is one SCARY LOOKING Dude(?)! He looks more Deep Water than Swamp, but wherever he winds up, he's going to be the BADDEST Guy in the Hood...brushwork & basing are OUTSTANDING! GREAT WORK!
If your still pondering what to do with that big grey spot, I'd go for a brighter contrasting color myself...fuchsia springs to mind.

Dug out some of my fiance's beastmen from the loft.
I will try and paint some more figs to match at some point, but it may well be beyond my abilities and she hasn't painted anything in years (and as she spent an age painting these I doubt she would volenteer) lol.
There are a couple more shots on the blog.

Love the beastmen brownish-reddish painting scheme :)

Never thought I could have this much fun painting :).
Barney the Squid (Paint in progress):

Nice work.

Cheers :)
Moving onto the next models ready to hit the painting desk, 2 more minion heavy warbeasts, my ironback spitters. I coulden't stand their chin horns, so they came off, also didn't like the pose so they have both been re-posed.
These guys are the only Blindwater heavy so far with ranged attacks, corrosive spit, they are not excellent in game (just OK) but the models are nice enough (without their chin horns lol) and I can use them as big friends of the terrortoise should I ever need them... also I got them both quite heavily discounted which always helps lol.

Fair enough ...
Your latest WIPs are looking great so far! I like the way you've painted Barney's eyes :)

Cool. I like the colour choice.

Cheers for the comments guys :).
I went to finish the Ironbacks but I wasn't "feeling" it so I stood infront of the cabinet and looked at the hordes of un-painted miniatures, and I eventually picked some things to paint, normally I just stand there get depressed and go and do something else lol....

Loving those Dryads. Great job. :D
normally I just stand there get depressed and go and do something else lol....
Know this feeling. So many half finished (or just started) miniatures on my desk right now. These sunny days are a paradox. Perfect light for painting, just wanna lay around outdoors. >:(
-
Cheers for the comments guys, I tried to get in the mood for the rest of the Wood elves I have for the warband (some PP Tharn Bloodtrackers and GW Spellsingers) but I didn't get very far before my inspiration drained :(.
Oh well, it was a nice sunny bank holiday weekend at least, shame I coulden't go anywhere as I need to get my car looked at first (clunking sound underneath (hoping just a loose exhaust)) lol.

Some lovely additions since I last strolled by.
:-*
Have you finished Barney the Squid yet?
He is rather special and I want one
What for: I have no idea, but I still want one..... 8)

Thank you.
Nope Barney is mostly finished, I went to varnish him this morning and realised I haven't glued on / painted the last bit of tenticle yet (one of them has a seperate end)... *sigh*... nevermind
-
This is an impressive piece of work. The fact that you went back and looked at the details of a birch tree, noted the horizontal stripes and then incorporated them into your paint scheme shows a degree to attention that most people lack.
Very much enjoy looking at work of this caliber :D
-
Yes I would love to see some step by steps on that paint scheme!
LOOKING GREAT
-
Awesome work. Who makes the Boneswarm and Barney? Sorry if it's been answered but couldn't locate it.

I wrote all the stages in my blog if it helps.

I list all these details on my blog generally, in this case both miniatures are from Privateer press's Hordes line from thier "minions" faction.

Your stuff is usually great, but these Dryads are superb, love your choice of colours and the way you have painted them.

Well, thank you very much :).
I'd like to have something else to show this week but a big project is happening at work so i've been working longer days and i'm in on Sunday too :(.

Bored of elves now :(, also they don't like me (= not happy with the paint work at all).

Having a similar sort of fantasy project myself, this is one of the great advantages of such a project - if it kills your muse, move on to somehting different, it'll all get used anyway! As always nice painting and modelling, looking forwards to seeing more.

So much better than standard fantasy undead figures.
8) :-* 8)
-
Thank you, got to do 8 more skelles and a couple of ghouls, one ferile vampiress and... that's the lot, all done....
THEN I just have to build the entire town for the campaign... and the outlying regions... (i.e. a LOT of terrain).
AND my fiancee is now 16 weeks pregnant with our first so I've got to do a hell of a lot of work to the house to get as much finished as possible while I still have time.....
Oh well perhaps i'll play this campaign sometime in the next 20 years or so lol.

Really cool mini this one. Should look awesome painted up.

I have no idea what firestorm is but thank you :).
Finishing off the southlanders with 2 new champions, I babbled on a bit on the blog about the conversions... nothing important though lol.

You'll have to wait a bit longer yet for the painted terrortoise i'm afraid.
Finished one of the Southlander champions though, still can't find a head I like for the other one yet.

Wow great conversion make it fit perfectly with the new plastics!

Very nice. Is this a GW miniature? I don't recognise it.

Excellent work!

Pretty sure it's the old metal hero with plastic blackskaven parts (head and hands) and different staff...

Yep, all correct.
FYI I list all parts used in conversion on my blog (which you can find in my sig, but on this forum sigs only show on the first post on a page).
Cheers

...which is quite handy considering you just started a new one lol

I can't believe I missed this thread before - absolutely wonderful conversions and paint jobs. I have bookmarked your blog for more leisurely reading.

Finished the Tree Sheperd (that was until I spotted one green foot) sigh....
More angles on the blog as usual, been very quiet recently, the house is getting priority over hobbytime, sorry.

Damn, I seem to be developing a knack of only finding the really good threads when they get into their high teens. I've just read back 18 and a bit pages, enjoyed every line and photo of it. Some superb work. At the moment my favourites are the fish folk and the dryads. Do you ever get time to play a game?

lol it's a pain when that happens isn't it, I gave up on the "your best conversion" thread on DakkaDakka, it's over 170 pages long lol (plus most of it is 40k and that doesn't hold my interest much lol).
Thank you, I have plenty of time to play games (or I did have at least) but having the group to play them with is where i'm struggling, don't get me wrong i'm going to a local club and they are a nice bunch of guys but they play thier games (mostly 40k and Warhammer fantasy / kings of war) and I play board games with the other people fed up with 40k, a different game almost every week, and i'm enjoying that.... But it would be nice to play some skirmish wargames once in a while lol.

But back on thread track. Maxxev, always love your work. The Tree Shepard is looking good. I still looking to see mroe dwarves though. Always love the dwarves the most. ;-)

OK well if you have the time to go through the thread, I just started on page 150 or something I think lol: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/233422.page
Sorry to dissapoint but the dwarf warband is done, a full 12 members, the max you can have in mordheim... though there may be a hired sword or two one day.
I did finish the last one yesterday, though he probably looks no different to the last photos of him he's had a couple more highlights.
I do have some warhammer fantasy dwarves on my desk including 2 from the oathsworn kickstarter, but they've been there for a while now lol no progress so far.

I must have missed the previous photos of the Vertically Challenged Psycho; he turned out WONDERFULLY. The battle scars, striking hair color, & striped pants are the highlights for moi in a VERY WELL DONE piece. GREAT WORK!

Oh i dont think so mister. You need to make replacement models and alternate weapon load out models. Get to steppin. :-)
And though i am behind on my reading, pg 63 No Quarter 49. I want to see a mockup model of it by the end of next week. :-)

The first two pics of this model, which is sweet looking by the way, looks like it would have been bigger than a dwarf model. Is this a standard sized dwarf model from the GW range?

Slight problem.... I don't buy the no quarter magazine lol.

So I decided that my Ghouls looked too similar to my Zombies (not helped by the use of Ghoul parts in my zombies lol).
I picked some replacement figures, did a bit of GS work to remove some humped-backs and painted them up:
Much happier now :)

Nice! I'm using these for ghouls as well, for my 25mm D&D collection. I've started cutting down some ears and extending some of the necks. They're really nicely sized for 26mm and good ghouls in that scale are hard to come by.
-
Very nice idea. Perfect fit for ghouls.

Well i'm using them for a 30mm scale project and they are shorter than the zombies lol, but I actually like the ears because it fits in theme with the miniatures I have chosen for the ghoul king, Harpies and for the ghasts.
The idea being to link them all together with a kind of "bat like" theme to them.

Are you still building these war bands for Mordheim?

When I get time I will be, mostly for run though with Mordheim as the game in mind, so basically a few heros and some henchmen types. One day I might actuall make rules for half of them....

I found a few more mins over a couple of weekends to glue this guy together and I applied some liquid greenstuff to finish him off over the weekend, even managed to get him undercoated and started to paint him last night (no photos yet though).
He's (obviously) to go with the wood elf type warband.

The Tree Guy looks GREAT all primed. The white over black base coat is my preferred method also; it often gets mistaken, however, for a monochromatic finish...could explain why I have so many based & primed minis that just never seem to get painted. All that aside, have FUN with the finishing stages!

Very nice

Yeah he wasn't base coted in black, he was based coated in light grey and that white plus black and browns is paint i've painted on him... it probably looks more obvious in the bigger pic if you click on the pic in my blog post... lol :)

It's a great method I use often to pretend I'm painting something. Recently I'm using a lot of white undercoat with quickshade. Makes every mini look like a beautiful line-drawing. :D

Well the aim of this plog was to combat gamers ADD by painting and modelling lots of different things, and while that is still true I appear to have remembered that I used to have a Circle of Orboros army for Hordes... because I liked the figures... and the Bloodtrackers I painted up (the woodsey elf types with Javlins) have put me down the path of wanting a Circle army again...
Oh well go with the flow, I picked up a starter and some other bits and this is just a WIP to show i'm still alive...

Awwww look who ignored the baby long enough to get an update out.
Like the rat in heavy armor with ball/chain and sword.stormvermin right?

lol, Black skaven = stormvermin, yes, just the name for them in Mordheim basically, as the default Skaven list is Eshin and they are the assasin themed clan.

Oddly the post of the sourcerer didn't go up... so here he is now.
Paint in progress on the Clan Pestelin Priest... or Sourcerer, that depends on the miniature I find to fill the other role lol, no conversion here, stock model from the screaming bell / plague furnace kit.

Next up a Paint in progress plague Monk.

Very nice. Is that last mini from the screaming bell? Looks like it should be pulling a bell. Works well with that pose though.

yep, the monk, preist and initates are all from the screaming bell, well spotted, the rope on that monk has snapped twice to far, I may yet have to replace it lol.
-
Good to see this coming along again, how are the rules going? Very keen to try something like this myself.
-

The rope style seems pretty basic. Have you though about tightly winding some wire together, drilling a hole in the hand and the globe so that they are linked with the wire, it would have a bit more give and you could paint it too.
-
I like the wardancer. That hand swap is pretty effective. This is a very inspiring collection of conversions, please keep it up.

Err, they arn't I barely have time to model the figures let alone anything else lol :(.

Good point, I will consider that if I can find similar sized wire and it goes again :), cheers

Thank you, not just a hand swap mind there was quite a bit of work on that figure, she was holding a javilin mostly along the length of her arm for a start, plus wasn't in a running pose before. Cheers and I will as long as I have the ability and time to do so!
Just a quick paint in progress update on the Eshin black skaven.

Every time I see this thread I get an itch to paint up my old skaven. The I think about the barbarians I have on the table and the orcs sitting ready next and think I have too many minis lol. Really like this guy he is great.

Ok time to update on the progress of the Pestelin guys. Some other angles of the clanrats on my blog.

Gamers ADD has struck again and i've flittered back to some undead bits.

Stunning work!
:-* :-*
And the posing on that Ghoul King is amazing.
It makes me want to do a more active one myself.
Mine is rather fat and bloated.

Very nice, who makes the werewolf?
-
Cheers guys
who makes the werewolf?
All covered on my blog as usual :P. - Its a mantic games figure comes in a set of 3.

That's a couple of cool monsters. I wouldn't mind a little more color on the bases, though, to make the miniatures stand out a little more. Right now I think they kind of blend in with the bases a little bit

It's my goal in life to never finish a single base.... not but seriously I still haven't ever finished a single base... these are just the "undercoat" if you will ready for some tufts of grass or something should I ever actually get around to finishing a base....
The logic in my head is to finish all the bases at once... so presently I have nearing 200 figures that need basing. The only exception to this is my Warmachine army (snow).
-
Well I've not really managed to finish any projects recently, but I have been plugging away when I could over the last couple of years on the basic undead infantry, but I've never really shown a decent photo of them all, I still have a few boney undead to finish so haven't taken any photos of them yet but here's the rest.

It isn't obvious? Another dragon of course. Or cant he multitask and tame more than one dragon at a time? :-)

A treat for the dragon? A nice juicy rat held up by the tail, or somesuch...
Great to see all your undead (and associates) in one place. I really like the skintones on your (Hobbit Goblin-based) Ghouls. How did you paint them?
-

Lol, that might over balance the figures slighty, plus I have a small separately based dragon to accompany the guy anyway :).

Great idea on the food. RE: painting Halfords brand grey primer and either army painter strong tone (brown) GW Badab black (Grey), thats teh main part, then just finished the hair, straps, etc afterwards. All the undead have been really quite quick paint work, the boney guys take longer as they have bits of armour and cloth, etc of various different colours which takes ages when swapping paints :(.
-
Nice to see an update, the undead is coming along nicely!
-
Thank you Maxxev, that's a surprisingly simple method to get such a nice skintone.
-
That is an IMPRESSIVE Horde of Deadites & Friends. The Beasty Ones & the former Goblins are especially cool. GREAT STUFF!
The Dragon & Handler look good...the only thing I could think of for the missing arm was a pooper scooper...in case he lives in a neighborhood with a leash law.
-
You have such a good eye for miniatures from different manufactures that fit together. Very cool undead warbands. I especially like that zombie horseman.
What face are you planning for the dragon tamer? He is a cool idea that I might steal.
-
Now those look positively evil! Really like them, wouldn't want to end up in close proximity to the giant vampire bat creature.
Mount and Blade btw, you playing the Fantasy mods? I was going to base my miniature fantasy background on a mixture of MBW mods, although a I've been horribly underwhelmed by the Undead empire in 'Phantasy' Calradia.

Prophesy of Pendor is the one that got me for ages and I still go into occasionaly, I tried the Warhammer mod but got bored of having circles run around me by wolf riders lol, the Total war warhammer mod is much better.

-
Great looking ratmen! I like that the colours, despite being somewhat subdued in colourscheme, are still very strong and clean.
-
Cheers :)
A couple more undead, not needed for the campaign, just to see if I could really, plus they could be used for an ethereal undead warband (e.g. Banshee, Spectre, Wraith, Ghost, Spirit), of course the fact that none of them can be hurt by conventional weapons would be a bit harsh... lol.

I'm not sure what you mean about scales, he certainly has scales between his legs, right under his armour though is a bit of cloth.
There are more angles on my blog if it helps.

Most are 30mm, but I have some 25mm ones from a couple of sources, but Fenris Games most most sizes of bases in resin.
I bought the majority of them from Troll trader though as they had packs of 100 of all the plastic sizes.

I second this. Great conversion.
You've done a good job with the amazons, they are very nicely painted.
-
Now I don't want to go around imposing gender roles on anyone, but isn't "Dryad King" something of an oxymoron? :)
Figure looks like it will be really nice when painted up, mind.
-
Meh, forest lord, Woodland guardian, it's not a final name.
As per usual all the details are on my Blog though it's admittedly a bit of a trail to find this one lol.
The base mini is Dushatâr from Enigma miniatures.
There was one at Salute for Ł4 I was tempted but i'd rather keep him as a unique model.
-
Been a while, I haven't really done much in the way of hobby stuff except to transfer most of my paints into Army painter paint pots (droppers) and buy a rack for them which makes finding and organising paints sooo much easier.
i did undercoat a few things but other than that this is the only thing I have worth showing.
I FINALLY finished the last 6 terrortoise.

Cheers guys, just coated them in some liquid greenstuff to cover some of the knife scrapes will hopefully get a chance to undercoat them this weekend.

Those conversion are great!
I've always eyed those koralon. I like them, but I haven't been able to find a place for them in my fantasy world, so didn't bought them.
Now you have given me food for thought... umh...damn you! lol

All looking great :D

Very nice conversions, I really love those snakesmen !

Not sure about the wings, it should be possible though, I would skim down the wings connections and drill large holes in their backs, put the whole connection in the hole and then make good the join if I was going to do it.
If it helps for Ideas i'm also working on these.

Swamp shamblers (half the unit, the other half are just more of the same poses), for Privateer Press; Hordes but I could of course use these in any fantasy setting using Zombies.
I only used one coat of blue ink on these guys vs the bog trogs I put up... years ago now to make them look paler / deader, I will add some Tamiya Clear read for blood once the weather gets nice enough I can do it with a window open...
And of course base them properly...

I also did these on the easter weekend, I wasn't going to post as they are not really for a Fantasy warband these are just for Hordes but... meh it's not like I have done anything else recently to post lol!

Is that a Koralon body with a skink added to it?Shield works well with it too.

So it's been over 2 years but I painted something....
I like these figures a lot, so much character for skellies, much more than the old ones (plastic).
Quick and dirty paint work here no highlights as yet, and I missed the bosses shaftI realised after taking the photos...

Nice and moody. Who makes the sculpts?
-
it's on my blog, but they are both from boardgames, the Necro was from "HATE" and the witch from "Blood rage" both CMON games.
-
great miniatures and paint-jobs.
-
I'm watching a TV show called Mindhunter at the moment, so I feel sorta qualified to suggest that Necromancer has "issues".

lol someone suggested he looked like he was selling skull balloons :)
-
Something else new, an ogre thing and a giant skeleton towards the vampire hunters campaign which I may get to play after I retire...
More angles on the blog as per usual.

Looking good.
And keep the faith! (Although my wife advised me today that I probably won't paint everything before I die. I declined to tell her that was the point of staying immortal!)
-
All sorts of neat stuff here. I particularly like the autumnal themed wood elves/trees and the nagas!
-
Love this thread. Fave is the necromancer :o
-
Something new this way comes, new warband, more angles and info on my blog as usual.

I wrote a little fluff.. i'm not good at it.
“So I was down at the old markets, where the traders set-up these days, and I saw someone new, seems Mordheim has attracted yet another soul”
“This one was completely sheathed in her robes like she was trying to hide somet’in, She called ‘erself Emissary, fancy name if yer ask me”.
“She was hidden most of the time but she seemed to have a crown of thorns or some such, brown skin with some tattooed lines or summit over her skin and she was TALL”.
“I’d swear she had a fake leg too, some drunk knocked into her and she barely moved buy she just caught a stall and it sounded like wood on wood!”
“She’s from some place called “Bleakwood” or summit, yeh, yeah “Emissary of Bleakwood”, that’s got ta be a mark worth your coin fer the info right?”
Update on the painting so far - more on the blog.
