Title: The Duke of Nutherland's Kennel Club of Monimasket
Post by: Hammers on January 30, 2008, 03:44:36 PM
A foretaste of a more than usual whimsical project I am working on:

The Club's current Protectress, Lady Louise Scotlass-Dough, Dowager Duchess of Nutherland, with her English Foxhounds Castor and Pollux.

Lovely stuff Hammers :D  Everything is spot on, I Particularly like the long grass.  :)
However the grass is hiding her Wellington boots, so I cannot see if she is wearing green or blue Hunters

Great tartan on the skirt and patterns on the doggies. But I'd stay away from milady! She probably also smokes a pipe and has heads on the wall.

The mini is a Not Queen Elizabeth II, listed as "Lizzy", I think, at Hasslefree. I don't know where the mutts are from. Had them for ages.

The rest you will hear about eventually if you, as they say, stay tuned.

So is the idea to find dogs that look like their owners? The Col and Potiphar ceratinly bear a resemblance to one another.

They are 25mm washers. The pug washer was cut and filed into a cresent shape so it fit around the Col's base. I've done that with several dog bases to make them stand closer to their masters.

Ok, here it is, and I am probably sticking my neck out a bit, since most Lead Adventurers seem to be cat people. Anyway, I put this together because I simply have a thing for painting dogs. i have for quite a long time tried to collect as many different breeds as possible. Now I thought I'd display them with miniatures I have painted but not displayed before. Thus came the Duke of Nutherland Kennel Club of Monimasket. The fluff is just there for, well, fluff. I may or may not write more of it for all the members.

Another boy and his dog:

Günther, Frieherr von Fitzenstrahl with his Schäferhunde "Brunette".

von Fitzenstrahl is the Cultural Attaché at the German Embassy in London but regularely rents a house in Monimasket during the festival season to be at a convenient distance to Edinburgh. There he promotes seminares on Dresden porcelain and Blackforrest cuckoo clocks.

As an old horseman himself (5th Preussia Totenkopf Regiment), he is a popular guest at the Scots Greys officers club at Edinburgh castle. A keen amatuer photographer, he has always seen taking pictures of his officer friends and the castle surroundings.

Through his regimental contacts he has gained guest membership in DoNKCoM with his Alsatian Brunette.

von Mackensen's "home" regiment was the Preussian 1st "Totenkopf" Hussar regiment.

Apparently it all started with the death of the Duke of Wolfenbuttel. His whole regiment change colors to black and put a big silver deaths head on their caps to honor him. The idea caught on and other hussar and ulan regiments did the same.

I think I have at least ten new members of the club to make known to the public in the near future. I try to show them at a comfortable speed.

A few teasers:

Brigadier (ret.) Sir Carlos Plynkes, GBE, VC, GCSI, LoH (France), OoE (Denmark) etc., etc., formerly of the Brecknock and Radnorshire, formerly of the KAR... and the honorary Rottweiler "Buster".

Herr Kohl and his doberman pincher bitch "Schmetterling" aka. "Schmetty".

This whole thing is one of the neatest ideas ever, and furthermore, expertly executed.

You have to do a little hunting lodge or country estate for them to hang out in. And of course, on the grounds somewhere, a group of cultists is trying to excavate some hideous artifact. The whole place is criss crossed with ley lines and psyshic energies, which may account for the exceptional behavior of the dogs that begin to display an uncanny telepathic bond with their owners and an unusual intelligence.

Well, thank you. The funny thing is I never planned for it to be background material for a campaign. I've been buying dogs from various manufacturers (Mirlition, Obelisk, GW, Eureka, Mithril, Copplestone, RAFM, Reaper, Dixon...) and thought pairing them with owners was a good way to finish and display a portion of my lead pile.

Buster is an 'honorary' Rottweiler because he is a cat.

And while not a head of state, I darn well ought to be, as I have true blue Sachsen-Coburg und Gotha blood coursing through my veins. Curse those Mountbatten-Windsor imposters for denying me my rightful throne! Even the prof recognises this. Just look at my LAF title! Well, there is the small matter of alleged bastardy somewhere back down the line on Prince Bertie's part. But it's only alleged, mind. Lost records and all that. The Nazis destroyed the relevant archives in Germany during the war just to spite me, and the Luftwaffe bombed the ones in London. So it's difficult to check.

That reminds me, it's time I visited my estates in Thüringen. I've been to Bayern (lovely part of the world) to check out the family holdings there, but I've never been to Thüringen. Is it nice?

Of course, I had quite forgotten that I owned one of those. I had the RSM in a headlock for over an hour before he would agree to surrender his tie.

(I needed it to get into a dance with a rather finicky dress code. You had to have a proper regimental tie, not one from a blatantly fictional regiment such as the Brecknock and Radnorshire Workhouse Pals.)

Buster is an 'honorary' Rottweiler because he is a cat.

I have decided to scrap the old web page for the Kennel Club. It was written i Front Page and really not worth maintaining nor upgrading.

The once missing from this thread, as far as I can tell are the following:

The Right Honorable Sir John Poore-Lyer with his Smooth Haired Dachshund "Rocket".

Sir John, once know for his relentlessness as Lord Advocate, from which he has retired and is now spending most of his time rabbiting and generally patrolling his estate with his champion dachshund "Rocket". The dog seems to have picked up a few tricks from his master because the Right Honorable maintains that Rocket once chased a trespassing Irish tinkerer down a badger hole.

Sir John's cousins, the Poore-Shottes of Lower Maurall, has been overheard saying "...the old b***er is more likely to have shot the poor tinker with his Purdey and then had him dug down in the grounds."

Sir James Penycuik with his Siberian husky "Nuliajuk"

Sir James, famous son of Monimasket and celebrated geologist and explorer, recently disappeared during an expedition to northern Greenland. The bitch husky Nuliajuk, a steadfast companion of Sir James, was found close to the abandoned research camp sporting no less than seven leg-like appendages and a growth on her back with an extraordinarily liknes to the facial features of her owner. The animal, previously reported to have been most good natured, deplorably had to be put down after her rescue due to a newly developed and excessive aggressiveness. The veterinarian involved suspected rabies of some more virulent kind, which seems confirmed by the fact that after a bite from the condemned animal the good doctor has been institutionalized for developing insanity and, in fact, a second head.

Yes, I have one in the pipeline. That's why I moved the pics here. That web page looked awful and I don't want to refactor it.

May I present the statute which the grateful members of the Duke of Nutherland Kennel Club of Monimasket erected to commemorate its founder and benefactor.

This pieces was meant to be entered in the Age of Big Batallion Paint Club but as things are these day I could not mustert the time to complete it before the PC ran out.

Below you see a photograph of the state in which this equestrian magnificens is most often found. Those goddamn students of the University of Monimasket just can't leave his lordship alone during haze week, midterms and any other occasion they take as an excuse to drink themselves into a stupor and behave as cretins. Complaints have been made repeatedly by the club board to the Dean.

Hannibal is the name of his grace's faithful Great Dane and his effigy has been cast in bronze for posterity beside his master.

The foundation of the statue was cut from pink foam and foam board . It wasthen clad in epoxy putty and textured. The posts are made from miniature brass ship cannons (Billing Boats) with a cannonball on top made from lead shot pellet . They are linked with miniature ship chain. Brass parts were painted in an appropriate verdigris.

The rider is a miniature of Lieutenant-General Sir Thomas Picton as he appeared in his civilian clothes at Waterloo. I believe the sculptor is Paul Hicks but I can't remember who makes it. I got it years go just for this purpose, because that is just the kind of weird I am. The pooch is Hamlet from Hasslefree miniatures. I though he looks suitably heroic for a statue.
