All this talk of EotD has rekindled my interest in Victorian horror (found I have quite a few miniatures for it as it is). So who does the best looking policemen?
Preferably similar in size to the LAM ones which I will also be ordering. :)
-
Armed or unarmed?
-
I'll consider either (or both). :)
-
So, what do we have to choose from....
Foundry
West Wind
Artizan (pulp)
Eureka
What else?
-
I rather like the Westwind ones, however they may come up bit small against the LAM ones.
A better fit would be the Ironclad Miniatures armed policemen.

I've got the westwind ones and the inspectors, note the height difference, mount then on a curbed base not a 'road' base and job done really. LAM stuff is a little more bulky, (from the post apoc stuff I have) so you'll always going to have that sculpt difference. Shouldn't pose a problem.
(And yes Seb it's got me too! :D)>

I've got the westwind police and inspectors, I agree, they'll be smaller than the LAM ones. The Foundry figures are chunkier and will probably fit in better, they're also better than they look in the pics. I'm not a fan of the new foundry Victorian era stuff in general but I had a good look at them in Foundry a couple of months back and I was pleasantly surprised by the police. They're chunky but not horribly so like some of the others and I'd be happy to own them. (They'll never be forgiven for destroying the Frontier Light Horse though).
Of them all I think my favourite are the Artizan police however. Just had another look at them and I don't see why they couldn't be used as late 19th Century police, although I'm sure someone will chip in with a reason :)
-
I also looked at the Design 28 ones, but a lot of those figures seem to have fat heads.
Ironclad are near the top of my list, though I'll take another look at the Foundry ones (I too, don't like a lot of the new victorian stuff, mostly due to the broad square shoulders on almost all of them, but they do provide the numbers for the coppers and some of the other packs offer tempting subjects too).
Artizan are near the top of the list as well, though I presume they will be small and I wondered if they are really suitable for the period (not knowing much about this really).
I know Wessex Games does some as well, but they no longer seem to be on the site.

Check out my blog at:

Go to bottom of page there's a big pic of both artizan and westwind coppers.
They go together perfectly. Only difference is the artizan ones have a metal knob
on the top of their helmets, westwind don't. Should be ok for very late victorian coppers.

Thanks for these.
Question: looking at your blog...Why don't you just play EoTD??? As it's currently looking very similar,

If you're planning on doing any games set in America (like me), take a look at the TVAG Crushers (scroll down)

I thought they were 5 for a Fiver?
The middle one reminds me of Edward Judd as DCS Arnold in Jack the Ripper!

Commander - My rules originally started out asFantasy, long before Eotd.
A few weeks before Eotd was announced I decided to do a victorian horror version,
bad timing I guess. But I've started, so I'll finish.

Thanks for that!
Right, I think I have enough suggestions, now to absorb it all and make a decision (ah, who am I kidding, I'll probably get some from everywhere. lol

I thinkthe Ironclad ones are good too!

The Blue Moon sets have some great figures but they're always mixed in with other that have odd proportions, which usually discourages me from buying them (I love my set of WW2 zombie characters though).

Reaper has one in their Chronoscope range. http://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/Chronoscope/sku-down/50106 (http://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/Chronoscope/sku-down/50106)

Spotted these not sure if they are a little to late. But with the right paintjob!

BCW124 Police with Helmet & Rain Cape

They offer an interesting variety, but I think sculpting style is a bit too different from my other figures for my tastes (YMMV).
-
I have the Foundry Police Constables and the pack of commanders. I've heard some say they don't like them but I found them great figures to paint and they look very nice.

I don't like the blocky shoulders this sculptor gives to all his figures and the over use of widelegged stances, but there are some packs in the range that are still must haves, and I'll probably add the coppers to them when I get around to ordering.
-
The helmet shapes are odd in that Foundry pack too - more like Chico Marx's hat than anything any British Police Force ever wore.
I don't think anyone has mentioned yet the Victorian police officer (in cape, blowing whistle) in Black Tree's Doctor Who range (under the 4th Doctor category). Not bad, but there's only one of him.
I hate to say it, but my favourite late Victorian policemen are probably the ones Kevin Dallimore converted from Foundry Zulu War artillerymen for a South London Warlords convention game. I don't know if the base figures are still available - Foundry also used to make artillerymen in the "airpipe" helmet which some Police Forces used to wear.
