I really like these. can't wait to see more.
-
Very nice. What a pitty that you are dwelling so far in the south, Your Romans could Fight my germans otherwise!
Cheers
Jan
-
Very nice. Which faction are you planning on using to represent your Romans? I've been patiently waiting for the Saga Arthurian supplement, but it doesn't look like it's coming out any time soon.
-
Jolly nice for those who favour brutal sub-Roman warlords hell-bent of repressing peaceful, industrious, Saxon migrants :)
-
Beautiful work! :-*
-
Sehr huebschen Farben! Kongratulieren!

Jolly nice for those who favour brutal sub-Roman warlords hell-bent of repressing peaceful, industrious, Saxon migrants :)
I'm sure that the Romans will be more than glad to leave the Saxons in "peace" - as in "Rest in Peace". :D
-
Thank you guys!
@axabrax: I think I'll go with the anglo-danish as I think they'll represent the romans quite well. But to be honest I'm looking forward to the "Ravens Shadow" Supplement. I hope the Franks will do better :-)
@Lt. Hazel: But it ain't totally out of reach :D
Finally managed to get 12 Levies aka Limitanei ready.
Next will be 12 more, but this time I'll mix with some Musketeer Miniatures cause they aren't that over dynamic.
More pictures on my http://moitereisbuntewelt.blogspot.de/ (http://moitereisbuntewelt.blogspot.de/)

-
Nice. I also have three GB buildings on my bench, they are so Good and cheap as dust!

This time I went for Late romans by Musketeer Miniatures except the one holding the spear above his head which is from the Age of Arthur Range by Westwind...
You can find some more pictures over on my blog http://moitereisbuntewelt.blogspot.de/ (http://moitereisbuntewelt.blogspot.de/) so I hope I'll read you there too :D
-
Magnificent! Did you paint that damage on the right shield with the wood looking through or is it sculpted?
:-*
-
To my blame I have to admit that the shields are decals by LBM as I don't get the freehands done as I want so the wood is "printed".
-
This stuff is hot. Love it.
So, why can't I find these buildings on the GB website?
-
These are all absolutely gorgeous!
Absolutely top notch stunning!
:-*
I am re-reading the Warlord series by Bernard Cornwell at the moment, and that coupled with these are really tempting me into doing something similar myself....
Must resist!
-
Wow! Beautiful paint work, with a very cohesive and harmonious colour scheme. I imagine these guys must look excellent together on the table.
-

So, why can't I find these buildings on the GB website?
Well, the buildings are here, (http://www.grippingbeast.com/shop.php?CatID=29) but they all seem to be out of stock at the mo.
-
I really like your painting style. Another thread I will be watching closely.
-
Thank you guys!
Recently I needed some distraction from painting the limitanei so I decided to draw my attention on the scholae palatinae. As they wear the lorica hamata they were easily painted up and much fun to paint.
In terms of SAGA they are counting as hearthguard worth 1pt. for 4 miniatures...

These days I finished another batch of Limitanei or more like Pseudocomitatenses. The last 4 guys are already on my painting table too just waiting for the final steps. Leaves me with 16 warriors aka Comitatenses and 3 mounted hearthguards aka Palatinae more to go until the project is finished... for now ;)

We do. The models aren't always my cup of tea, but that's not taking away anything from your paintjobs and overall great effort. Keep rolling! :)
-
Priceless facial expressions on that lot! :)
Looks really good. We should all do a LAF goes Arthus weekend once. lol
-
Excellent!
:-*
Love the colour pallette, giving them a more uniform look whilst still all being different.
-
Thank you guys I realy appreciate your kind comments. Gives me the motivation to carry on ;)
Lately I finished the last four of my Limitanei/ Pseudocomitatenses. Leaves me with 16 comitatenses and 3 mounted Palatinae/ Advocati to go.

Me too.
I keep hovering over that Dux Brit rulebook after looking at this thread.
Great stuff!

Wow! Lovely work.

This is really nice work :) Good job on getting them all finished at such a high standard!

Really good warband! Well done!

Finally came round to paint some more figures to bring my warband on a legal size for gaming Dux Britanniarum:

Those look very good indeed :)
-
Beautiful work! I love to know how the rules play out, I bought them last month but have not had a chance to try them.
-
Fresh from the painting desk, new leaders for Dux Britanniarum.
As Axebreaker has killed two, well actually three, of my nobles during our last game I had to replace them.
May I introduce to you
Flavius Pulcher & Turbiculus Ater (For those a bit interested in latin it should be easy to identify who is who)

Tanks for watching & I hope you enjoy.

Love the tale, moiterei, of how they came to be.
-
amazing highlighting work :-*
-
Though progress is slow at the moment due to me rebasing my Romans here's some stuff for my table:

As always you'll find mor pictures on my blog.
-
Wonderful!
:-* :-*
-
I think you are under selling yourself on those trees. :) :)
-
Wonderful painting jobs on these and this village looks awesome. Love all the details and the colours. Top notch work.
-
Love your colour palette!
All of your figures are great but those villagers (and the village!) are simply superb!
What's the re- basing about? Putting them all on round bases?
-
Beautiful!
-
I have to ask as I cannot find the answer myself: Is that one of those 'tufted mats' that are now available?
If so, could you give me a pointer towards the supplier, please?
:D
-
@all: Thanks for your kind words!
@WillieB: Yes. All my guys are to have 20mm round bases in the future. Definitely looks better for Skirmish gaming.
@Mason: It's a mat but only 30cm x 15cm. It's sold by some czech company I unfotunately can't remember the name of. It's the biggest one they have so I suppose it ain't the thing you're looking for.
-

Oh, I think it is.
I remember Hammers posting about it and just cant find it anywhere.
Time to bother him directly, I reckon... ::)
Thanks for replying.
:D
-
Great figures and the set up is sublime :-* :-*
cheers
James
-
Very nice additions! The paintjobs are fantastic, the small patterns you've added, e.g. the old man's Roman-style tunic, make them really stand out. Also, your painting style appears somewhat changed – if so I like it even better! 8)
-
@ Mad Doc:
I wasn't aware my style changed that much but you're probably right as one can see on the pic below. But what makes the civilians look that different is the slightly altered colour palette I used for the females and kids skin.
Here my newest addition to the force:
With these figures ready I now have 31 of 32 recommended points for Dux Bellorum :D
(http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JTlLOMB07Uc/U28ZupjVBXI/AAAAAAAACFA/hcE2Byd2Jow/s1600/SAM_0813.JPG)
Here you see a direct comparison between the new figures shown above and two archers I painted a year ago. You definitely see a difference in painting but I think it's close enough to be not too obvious on the table.
-

Agree, they aren't too different. And both, old and new one painting jobs are looking very lovely, well done.
-
Nice work; and yes, they will be fine together on the table :)
-
Thanks gents!
Today finally something new from my table:

More please.
Very good painting.
-
Beautiful vibrant colours, excellent.
-
Lovely.
Musketeer minis must be doing jolly well at the moment, given how many of us are currently painting these figures :)
-
Saxalicious :-*
-
Beautiful painting. Love the windswept look of these figures.
-
Very nice indeed 8)
-
Amazing paintwork, well done. These Musketeer minis are seeming to be very popular, indeed.
-
Excellent and inspiring stuff here, thanks for sharing!

Heck, it's truly been a while :o
I've painted a few more late Romans over the last few months, more or less the start of a new Warband for SAGA as I'm not really happy with my older efforts anymore.

Stunning :-*
Beautiful job. Superb colours. Great to see you continue to build and develop this collection, and I admire your dedication to improvement! (Even though your stanards where amazingly high already!)
:)
-
Lovely work.
I actually spent Sunday afternoon with reenactors dressed as your senior legionaries. At Thorsby Park. I made their shields (only the centre one in this pic)and they were a pain in the arse full size ,So I can appreciate the effort and the overall effect you've achieved,I'd say your colour choice is spot on
Mark.
-
Absolutely stunning painting. :-* :-* :-*
-
Those Romans are truly wonderful, I love them!
-
Those colours are really vibrant, minis look terrific :-*
-
Amazing miniatures! Great vibrant colours on them. I love your bases too, do you paint them at all or is it left natural?
