OK, here some news on the LPL Season two. Sorry for delaying with this, I have been very busy last months. Now I've started some things and hope they do some work for me and I got some more time to make some more wargaming. Though it's quite possible that I will be away on business again for 1-2 weeks and will have to make a break on LPL for this time. But for now we won't hope that.
Before you ask me about the gallery for the Season 1 entries, yes, all the great pics aren't lost, I will upload it next week.
The rules are the same. Make a team with at least five figs and send it to me. That was the short version, take a look for the long one -
http://forum.backofbeyond.de/viewtopic.php?t=2399
The only new addition to the rules is:
Bonus Points will only be available for newly-painted teams, which means, previously unpublished ones. Old teams are okay, but no bonus points for those. Please tell me, when you're going to send me your team pic if that is an unpublished one or not. I'm not going to google to prove your statement, I will just believe it.
Bonus rounds
We will have some bonus rounds again, three of them to be exactly. I think it was a great fun to see all the Great Cthulhus. But no worries, no more evil Cthulhus this time, there are enough other evil things out there.
The bonus rounds will be the Round 1, Round 5 and Round 10. The bonus themes will be:
for the Round 1. - Conquistadors - Paint some spanish invaders and get 10 points. Paint some Aztecs, Mayas, Inkas or Amazon savages like Tupi or Botokudo and get 15 points. Paint both (invasors and natives and make a battle scene with at least five figures on every side and get 20 Points.
for the Round 5. - Mad Science - Paint a Mad Doctor and his laboratory staff and get 10 points. Paint a Mad Doctor with some robots or other crazy mechanical things and get 15 points. Paint a Mad Doctor followed of some mutants or other nasty creatures awakened to life by his dark genius and get 20 points.
for the Round 10. - to be announced...
Registration and Deadlines
The first round of the first season will start on Monday, April 7th, 2007. All participants must have entered a pic prior to that date; all pictures received after April. 7th will enter play in the second round.
Entry Deadlines and Round Durations for the 2008 spring season will be:
Round 1 (League Start) April 7th – April 13th (Bonus)
Round 2 April 14th – April 20th
Round 3 April 21st – April 27th
Round 4 April 28th – May 4th
Round 5 May 5th – May 11th * (Bonus)
Round 6 May 12th – May 18th
Round 7 May 19th – May 25th
Round 8 May 26th – June 1st
Round 9 June 2nd – June 8th
Round 10 (Season 2 Finals) June 9th – June 15th (Bonus)
*= Final registration for Season 2/08
New participants may enter until the end of Round 5, the deadline being Sunday, May 11st. Any entries from new challengers received after that date will be held for the start of the next season.
Good luck!
-
Excellent news!
I won't be entering, as there is no way on Earth I can paint fast enough, but I look forward to seeing all the entries and ripping them off for my own work.
Good luck to everyone. :)
-
Oooh, the suspense! I may participate in an occasional round, if I have time.
-
Great news. I entered the first one quite late. I'll be ready for this one.
I'm probably being over optimistic here on my output, but what happens if you have more than one "group." Does your first one drop out when you enter the second, or do they all just stay in?

You can enter just one team each round. New or old, no matter. For new unpublished one you'll receive 10 points, for the old or already published one none. But if you think your new team wasn't really successful feel free to put old one again in the next round. Or other new. Nothing would drop out.
-
Good luck everybody. This always makes monday mornings worth getting up for :)

Rally to me, Forlorn Hope Painters! Our hour has come! We shall gamely provide the real painters with token resistance on their march to coronation. But when they throw our shattered remains into a nameless grave, they shall write on the tombstone:
Stranger,
Go Tell the Athenians
We Too Painted
-
Well, where we are lacking in fascines and macadam, SOMEONE has to fill the trenches, potholes and craters before the mighty as they sally forth.
-
Oh great, this had to start in the same week as my PhD viva voce exam... brilliant timing. :(
BUT! I'm going to try hard for that last place. Of course the first theme already has me stumped and without the requisite models... gah! Ah well, this should be fun anyway
-

you don't need to put the Conquistadors for the first round, you may join with anything you want, it's only the bonus not a compulsory theme, actually just a chance to gather some more points
-
One last question - well, from me :) Any rules on scale? Can we go larger than 28mm and smaller?

maybe it's a good idea to read the long version of the rules :-)
http://forum.backofbeyond.de/viewtopic.php?t=2399
Scale
There are NO scale restrictions. From 2mm to 120mm, and beyond, anything goes; of course, the scale should be consistent within the team, although you might enter different teams in different scales, and there might be some leeway for scales within teams, for example including a larger-scale figure as a "giant" in a group of otherwise smaller-scale figures - just make sure all figures follow a consistent theme.
-
I'm excited to begin...but, I have a small question before I send in any pix. I have some Tupis to enter for round one to get bonus points, but I've alredy shown them on this forum...I'm guessing that ammounts to being published and so I should enter another set of figures instead? Please advise...

no matter where published, how said they have to be unpublished ones, you will need another set to get bonus points
-
Blast! Time to get painting...
-
This is great news even if it is starting out during a move for me. Hopefully I'll be able to keep up. Perhaps I should start some secret projects now.

I know Prof - but I'll need those bonuses if I'm not to go into negative scores!
-
Good news, but... Oh God, I'm just not sure I've got the stamina to compete for all those bloody bonus points in every round... :?
-
Sounds good at least I can get some bonus points for the first round :D
-
Well, I'm out of this league as I'm moving house (to another continent!) right smack in the middle of it. Won't be touching a brush for several months starting April! :(
Good luck to all and I look forward to seeing the entries!
-
Great !
It'll be my first participation, I'm really excited ...
Good luck to everybody :)

Wow! Where are you off to? (And will they play wargames there?!)
-
@Capt Blood - I'm moving back to Singapore after nearly 4 years in Germany. The wargaming scene is pretty active, but I'll miss all the lovely German scenery!

Are you going to whip that NapNuts group back in to shape? Fatgoblin's been awfully quiet lately.
-
Great thing that you waited for me to return from Reha. I did lots of painting in the last 4 weeks, just have to do the bases.
-
Rehab?
-
Reha - Medical Rehabilitation :-)
-
Oh, I thought it was the other kind. :-) Hope you're well now, Poliorketes.
-
Won't get better, it's rheumatic. But They stretched and bent me, made me loose weight, build up muscles and tortured me in any thinkable way. And I was able to read parts 4-6 of the Malazan Book of the Fallen by Erikson, painted 60 late war WW1-Germans and completed several other minis.
-
I know a few things about rheumatism, always sorry to hear about it. Hope you have found a way to cope with it.
-
Thanks, that's what the rehabilitation was for, and it's been really good.
-
I've read this thread and the previous one with the expanded rules, and I THINK this isn't a completely stupid question (ie: one obviously answered elsewhere).
When we send a picture to register, it is of our completely painted unit, right? We don't send pictures of the pre-painted minis?
-

No, because in Leadaf, we trust

yes, no pre-painted minis. It's a competition of painters :)

I know the first team is due April 7th, but could you be more specific for me as I live in the United States. This forum is run out of Germany, right? So is my team due at the start of April 7th by German time, or the end of April 7th? I ask because, predictably, I'm painting my butt off, but am wondering when I'll be able to finish my team. If it's Midnight on the 7th, I may be able to make it.
A second question: If I don't get my team into the first round, can I enter it into the second?
-
its start of April 7th by German time (or end of April 6th). Now it's too late for the Round 1. but no worries, you can enter into the second :)
-
Whew, that's almost a relief, because I'm about two more hours from being done, but I just can't ... lift ... the ... brush .... any ..... more...
-
Great start to the new season. :) Some very difficult entries to choose from. :?

Yeah, some great stuff already. But I've got to ask: are Conquistadores/Aztecs the new Pulp?

It's called the 'Lead Adventurers Forum' and the 'Lead Painters League', remeber? Pulp is just one aspect of that while Swashbuckling, which I guess the Age of the Conquista sorts under, is another.

How hammershield said. LAF isn't a Pulp forum but an Adventure one. Whatever your imagination can think of.
-
What he might have meant by that is: Are Conquistadors the new trendy thing, enjoying as much sudden popularity as has Pulp recently?
-
That's just the Professor taking bribes to help Foundry, Copplestone and Eureka to push their surplus stock of indians and conquistadores by having them as themed entries in LPL. ;-)
-

Conquistadores is the bonus theme of the Round 1, you just need to return to the beginning of that topic and read about the bonus rounds.

My entry for round 2 on it's way. :D

Hi All,
New to the board (it's all Vanvlak's fault) and hoping to win Valuable Prizes in this illustrious competition. :-)
Well, here goes nothing. A finely crafted picture showing minis of dubious quality has been wafted to our generous Mod on the wings of the Electronic Aether.
All I have to do now is paint another five figs before next Sunday.
No pressure, then.
Wish me luck, chaps.
Cheers,
-
Hi All,
New to the board (it's all Vanvlak's fault) ....
I'm innocent - honest!
And you can hardly do worse than me   :P
Nice to see you around anyway :)

Voted for all the matches now and really enjoyed seeing so much great painting. One thing puzzles me though. Why do some "matches" have so many more votes than some others?
I think it was the same in the first round. I know it is only the first day, but I always vote for every match, going through them all one by one and savouring the enjoyment. :)
-
Yep, had a great time voting. Even if the quality of the painting did my aspirations no good whatsoever :-)
Couldn't say why the number of votes would vary - perhaps some people haven't time to vote on all matches?
Cheers,
-
I missed a couple this morning as I always check new posts rather than go to the section for the LPL. That might be a reason for it?
-

I think it was the same in the first round.
My theory: the contests which get replies or comments are posted to the posts since last visit list, and come up when requested; the ones which get votes but no replies are not. If someone is kind enough to tally the numbers of votes of posts with comments and the numbers of votes in contests without comments we could verify this. :?:
-

that's easy, I've started some of the polls 1-2 days ago in the Admin board :) And moved them on Monday to t the LPL one.
It's hard to start all them Monday morning and would take lots of time, so I'm going to get ready a bit earlier.
-
You're getting lazy! ;)

Dont blame you it must take ages to pull it alltogether and some of us  put our entries in at the 11th hour

Well, there's Round 4 sorted. All I have to do now is win. Anybody willing to sell votes for Jelly Babies?

Can I choose the flavour?

Yep, you can have any colour you like, as long as it's not black (they're my favourites!)

Oh no, have to settle for orange, then... :(
-
And it serves you right for being ahead of me in the League Table!
:-)

Hey Prof. received the newsletter today - it's really cool! Do you have to do it manual or is it some sneaky program that generates it with one klick?

it's a feature of my webspace provider I 've newly discovered. With templates and some other nice things, I need just to hoose the theme, the pics to put it, write the text and import about 750 email addresses using CSV. Great one!
-
It was great looking Prof. Though getting three different announcements about the LPL makes me feel like you REALLY want me to vote. lol

sorry for that, that was the last time you got more than one.

Well...
Just like to take a moment to thank Alex (the Prof) for all the work he has put in managing Season 2 of The Lead Painters League (even when the real world got in the way).
I'd also like to thank ALL the participants in the League for inspiring me to join not only the forums, but also the competition.
Ya'll made Monday morning a very special part of the week.
Looking forward to Season 3.
-
I am not looking frward to Season 3. I have run out of explanations to my wife why I am creeping to bed at 3am Monday mornings. :-)
-
It's been a great season and I'm looking forward to season 3. Have something in mind for the whole season, some kind of personal theme. No, not building an army.
-
Yes, it's time to thank Alex once again for all the work he's doing for us: THANK YOU VERY MUCH! :)
And I'm not yet sure about participating season 3; although it's much fun and I've got a lot of minis done in time, I'm planning ahead for the one or other larger project waiting to be finished for quite some years ...
We'll see ...
-
thanks guys, you're welcome :) of course not sure about Season 3 too soon. Looks like I will spend several months in Russia, so maybe we will have to wait till next year. We will see 8)
-
:(
It's almost over! :( :( :-[
Great fun, even though it looks like I might lose my enemy of the people title for a handful of votes. Ah well, better luck next time.
Prof, thanks VERY MUCH for the rise, it was most enjoyable. 8) 8) 8)

I hope you stard it end of the year because the leage will push me to paint more figures for myself.
I also will thank you for doing such a good forum for us .
see you soon .

Been great fun. Many thanks to the Prof for all his hard work. I already have a few ideas for the next Season :)
