Stunning, simply stunning!
:-* :-* :-*

Can't choose, I'll try tomorrow :o
-
Superb job,chaps!
Amazing paint jobs on both entries!
Please, please, please give us a 'Both' option for voting!
-
Top form gentlemen. Top form. :-* o_o :o 8)
-
Both Beautiful!!! I love the set up of the first entry...stunning! And the second is sooooooo well painted! Arrrgh! My Mind!!!
-
Yowza!, Both are incredible, :)
@Dr M, I recognize the Hydra miniatures Valkeeri but what is the robot?
@ Chamber, I have been thinking of converting a Tau ship into something Generic sci fi for awhile
brilliant!.. I may have to borrow that design
just awesome guys!
-
:o Chambers, absolutely beautiful painting, no doubt about it. Love the two in the long coats, amazing. :-*
@Dr M, I recognize the Hydra miniatures Valkeeri but what is the robot?
The robot is an 'Iron Giant' toy- I think it came from a Burger King or McDonalds kids meal. I sculpted a new head out of Sculpey and added a piece from one of the Hirst Arts sci-fi machinery molds for the eye.

:-* :o :-* :o
I'm going to have to come back to this!
(what are the alien creatures in the first entry?)
-
Wow. The deep end of this league... is really very deep indeed.
Just stunned into silence by both these entries.
-
Wow :o :o :o
Speechless.
-
Really great work both of you!
@Dr Mathias - I love the little guy in the bottom right hand corner about to shoot the director!
-
And.... Scratch your head in hopeless indecision as to who to vote for! lol
-
After seeing the first one I knew thats what I was going to vote for .... until I saw the second one. Well done to both of you. Now who to vote for....
-
Incredible, stunning work from the both of you! It was very hard to pick one and the margin was razor thin...
-
WOW AMAZING ENTRIES :o :o
-
How do you split those two?
A fitting LPL Finale
Extraordinary talent guys
-
Am I allowed to ask that my vote be awarded to whoever is not in the lead so that it becomes closer to draw?
-
Two absolutely fantastic entries, by two painters both deserving to be Champion.
Well done, guys!
-

This was my thought as well!!!
Stunning work guys
-
How can one decide between such awesome entries as this! :o
Christopher

This was my thought as well!!!

Me too exactly. Awesome work.

I thought this was a slam dunk when I saw the first photo, then I saw the second!
Both are outstanding.
-
we need hi-rez macro pics in order to properly judge this level of expertise!
-
Though I don't make comments often, there should a tie vote for entries like these
-
Impressive! :o
Sorry if I'm not original saying this, but is impossible to choice.
Both are really inspiring...
-
As one of the contestants in this round I have to say I was hoping for a tie myself, Chambers is a superb painter and his Round 10 entry is a genuine beauty.
(what are the alien creatures in the first entry?)
The little guys are called 'Smoggers' and they're made by Moonfleet Miniatures. I bought a bunch about three years ago from Matakishi of this forum. After receiving them I was scratching my head since they're pretty lumpy little guys... I did a little research and one poster on TMP said the photos of them on the webstore looked like they had been sculpted from bubble gum :) That said, they're not that bad once painted up.
-
This is UNFAIR!
How can we simple mortals choose from these two entries?
And where is the "BOTH" button?
This is the hardest match in all the LPLs I have voted in.
And the difference in votes don't reflect how close this match is.
CONGRATULATIONS for both painters for such pieces of art.
Best wishes.
-
Stunning. Awesome. Fantastic. Breathtaking.
Both entries are the best Space Opera figure collections and set pieces I have seen.
Well done to both - now how do I decide who should get my vote?
Tony
-
Both awesome :-*
But I prefer your scenery and subject Dr_Mathias, so fun. I still have to paint my own Hydra venusians.
-
Still can't decide between the two entries - please let me call it a draw!
Tony
-
Simply incredible, and fitting that the winner of this will likely win the league! In the immortal words of Wayne's World, "We are not worthy...!" to choose between the two...
Mike Demana
-
Both are fantastic - well done!
-
What can I say? Awesome work, both of you. The pinnacle of this year's show.
:-* :o :-*
-
Wonderful.

Just what I was thinking . . .
-
Over the years i have had some difficult voting choices but these takes the cheese.
Can somebody give me a hint whosee leading and i will vote for the other one!
-

Dont know if it was also available from some fast food chain but it was with the Iron Giant limited edition video box set.
-
man that was a tough one!
-
:o holy smoke! How am I supposed to choose?
-
Not fair, not fair at all-they should both win...I only wish I could split my vote in two.
-
The composition, staging, painting and photography of both entries are amazing. If there was a button to allow voters to draw it would be 100%. Phenomenal work.
-
Both of these are amazing. I'm going to have to look at these over the course of a few days to decide!
Fantastic job both of you!
-
Wow, stunning and perhaps the title decider?
-
They are both outstanding and it was hard to decide where to place my vote. Very well done, all!
-
Oh come on! Love them both.
-
And.... Scratch your head in hopeless indecision as to who to vote for! lol
second that! I finally made it, though, but ... what the ... heck!!! b-r-i-l-l-i-a-n-t!!
these metallic capes from the chicks ... one can almost ... smell the ... what was it? 60s, 40s? style of SciFi-movie-wonders? Flash Gordon? B&W? anyone?
*sigh*
best wishes

Just come back off leave all nicely relaxed, I'm now totally frustrated as I'm unable to choose between these two brilliant entries.
-
I think i will flip a coin, no way to choose one or the other.
The stunties in both entries look really fun
-
Brilliant work by both entrants! How did you make the rocks in 'Action'?
-
Now the votes are over I'd like to say that the Action one edges it for me, the behind the scence touches were a stroke of genius and solthing I had not seen on LPL before (though it could have happened alread) so they tipped it for me. When it came down to two very close entires I thought the mis-en-scene was really artistic!

Gotta agree with Adam.
This is exactly what tipped it for me, too.
Two stunning entries and this was the only way that I could seperate them.

Yes, i'm sure a lot of people will have gone the same way for the same reason. I think in absolute painting terms, Chambers' entry is technically better. But you just can't beat Dr Mathias for sheer inventiveness, storytelling and chitzpah! But really, very well done again to both of you. Either of these would have been a worthy championship winner :)
-
I finally decided on ACTION! My reasons were the brilliance of the painting of the Venusian(?) startroopers. The glittery metallic suits were perfect 50s American scifi. The details were also spot on I loved the eye shadow on the girls. The only thing about ACTION! which gave me any doubts were the opposition, the costumes for these were more 80's Star Wars and didn't quite fit with the rest of the 50s film set. There have been a lot of close matches this season but I think this was the hardest to decide on.

I can't argue with that, which leaves me with an odd feeling of not deserving to win the round. I'll be the first to admit I can sometimes sacrifice painting quality when I'm trying to stuff in new terrain and scenic items to get the look I want. I knew that I would have to include some close-ups since Round 10 has so much stuff in it it.
This match should have been a tie, IMO.

Good comment. Agreed, the Smoggers, or at least the way I painted them here have a dirty 'lived in look' that is more typical of Star Wars type films. I was absolutely not going to by any new figures for the LPL though and if I wanted to do the Valkeeri (which I did :) ) the smoggers were my only option that made any sense at all, everything else I have is 40K-ish.
How did you make the rocks in 'Action'?
The rocks are Hirst Arts cavern mold parts, arranged around styrofoam sheets and the gap filled in with drywall patch. I painted them to match the base, which is a square of vinyl flooring. The scenic rock backdrop 'flats' are thin hardboard with basswood framing/bracing and Sculpey for the sandbags. I wanted to make sure that my flat elements were scenery that could be used in game, not just a photoshoot backdrop. I'll show them in another thread some time, I'll be using them in Pulp Alley games.
Thanks all.
-
Not that I dislike the first entry, but I am surprised by the winning margin of 110 votes!
A nearly 2:1 ratio is amazing given the comments, I would have expected it to be much closer.
Gratz to the winner, and all other competitors too, thanks for putting in the time and effort.
-
Great Win Matt. It was close season and you deserve the win! Congratulations.
-
Just noticed the climactic battle was a border war...Kansas vs. Missouri! With two painters of your talent, it makes me proud to be from the middle of the USA (if Ohio can be considered that). Do you guys know each other, too, by chance? Other than on the forum, of course....

We have met, at the Recruits convention in Lees Summit. I've admired Chambers' painted miniatures many a time over the years- the games shop in Kansas City has display cases loaded with his stuff. Pretty odd that we live so close to each other, at least in USA terms. Probably about an hour and a half?
Kind of odd.
-
Good to see LPL 7 decided with a head 2 head championship decider. Shame there had to be a winner - both entries were fantastic!
-
Yes both are GREAT & would be proud to have them in my collection. both should move on
