Title: SAGA LOTR
Post by: Frank on June 24, 2013, 10:54:16 AM
Within the last weeks I have been working on SAGA LOTR. I created a new Battleboard  for the Elves and painted some 100 miniatures. And here are the results...hope you like it ;)

Absolutely stunning work there.

How did your boards for the elves work out?

These look great.

How do your changes work?

I have to admit I use Rohirrim as stand-in figures for real SAGA.  I never thought of changing the boards for a LOTR version.

Stunning, Frank.
Simply stunning!

Really interested in your boards as I will be starting a similar project soon.
I already have your Mordor board as a basis for my first force.

Wow, utterly amazing!  :o
Your paint job is absolutely magnificent, but not only that, the photos are extremely nice as well! They really capture the right middle-earth-ish atmosphere. My favourite picture is the first one with the warg riders, they are gorgeously painted and the grey sky and grass look striking as well. Wonderful job!!

i've just finished making a short film with the canon 5d mk11 and i would love to know what camera you use as i absolutely commend your photography sir! its amazing. not just the composition but the coloring and lighting. perhaps you might show an article? also i urge you to check out the video on the homepage of my website ehre www.lfeproductions.co.uk and check out the idea i am going for with depth of field. i feel if you did something similar like maybe layering a few trees in different distances from the camera, you could achieve not just a very nice image but the perfect effect for photographing 3D miniatures. for instance your elven scene in the forest with galadriel is lovely per the layering and depth.

You certainly know how to create wonderful pics. These are about the best photos I've ever seen. Everything fits together perfectly and in the end creates a really dramatic atmosphere. I'm really looking forward to seeing more.

Wow! Those pictures are absolutely amazing. The figures are beautifully painted and the backdrops are just right for setting the atmosphere. Looking forward to seeing the batreps and tutorials now so I can see how it was all achieved. Agaian, beautiful work.

WOW! Thanks a lot for all your kind comments!  :)

@Mr Brown: I had two very interesting games with the new elven board. It is not easy to play the elves but there are some nice strategies you can use.

@majorsmith: For the background I use internet photos printed on A3.

@NurgleHH: A bit from everything…. ;)

@The_Wisecrack: I am using a Conan EOS 1100d. …and thank you for your ideas! Your short films are very interesting. I actually made a tutorial on taking miniature-photos: http://tabletopdeutschland.wordpress.com/2011/11/15/fotografieren-von-figuren-und-dioramen/ …but only in German language

@Jevenkah: I did not use a lightbox for taking these pictures...only daylight.

Stunning work. Your pictures look like they could have come out of a GW rulebook ( I mean that in a good way).  Really cinematic.

Would you care to show your Elves board?

Ah danke schön mein Freund!!!

I've been thinking of the possiblity of using SAGA with LOTR. It's a bit more gamey and that would be nice in some situations.

Now I have no excuse not to.  lol

Hello Frank,
Great job all round on your SAGA lord of the rings, it has inspired me to collect some elves. I have a couple of questions on things I am not clear about:

* The Ent and the Great Eagle, are they supposed to activate as warriors (Sindar die)?

Elrond's Noldor banner bearer:
* Does he add +2 saga die in addition to Elrond's +1, or does Elrond count as granting +2 saga die whilst his banner bearer is alive, reverting to one saga die if the banner bearer is killed (unless Elrond takes up the banner)?
* Does the banner bearer have the option of being mounted?
* Is the banner bearer a separate unit that requires order dice, or does he replace one model in a Noldor unit (like a war banner model from ravens shadow)?

Many thanks,
Jayden Barr

Hi Jayden,

Thank you! I hope I can explain and answer your questions.

1. Ent and Eagle will activate like Elite.

2. Yes, he adds +2 to Elrond’s +1. If Elrond picks up the standard form the dead standard bearer he generates 3 SAGA dice. The Standard bearer and Elrond count as one unit. Yes, mounted is an option.

Before I am off for vacations, some more pictures. This time the Fellowship & Gollum…

More excellent painting and dioramas. Also, many thanks for posting up the Saga boards - most useful. LotR:SBG plays well for small skirmishes, but I'd like to give Saga a go for slighty larger battles.

Hello Frank, my friends and I have been enjoying your battle boards for the last year.
We are planning to play some more soon :) So thank you!

I was wondering if you ever considered a Harad/Easterling/Khand battle board?

The figures for these armies seem rare, so it's hard to collect a large army for most systems, but SAGA gives players on opportunity to play a really enjoyable game with a small to medium size force.

James.
