Title: List of 28mm Doctor Who miniatures available
Post by: CyberAlien312 on July 17, 2013, 12:24:14 PM
I made this list for myself and I thought I might as well share it here. Please note: This is a list of miniatures that somewhat resemble characters and creatures from Doctor Who. They are not official representations of the characters/creatures, except for the Micro Universe miniatures and DWA magazine figures.

White Knight: Those are actually from Star Trek, but I'll add the TARDIS.
Mr Tough Guy: I know about those, but I there's no shop link yet so I couldn't add those.
cp models: They're already in the list.  ;)
Fellow LAF-er Melnibonean also did these:

But they're not available yet either.

There might be one or two manufacturers out there who might prefer it if their product was described as "not" if you catch my drift .. ;)

Thanks for the plug for my SVfM minis. We have an extensive range for Dr Who games - our Leylandii plants would be ideal.

Mystic Spirals used to sell a couple of figures that looked like the 10th doctor and Martha Jones, although I don't think they're trading at the moment.

I sculpted my own version of the 10th Dr back in 2007 and produced a few in limtied quantities which went to various LAFers at the time.

Here is a version painted by Auton:

Company B deserves a mention for making decals for the Fenris police box. You'll find them in the "modern police"section.

Are there any sources for some of the more obscure Doctors and costumes? Specifically, I'm looking for the following:

8th Doctor Big Finish Costume:

Original (and best) 9th Doctor:

Also ideas for Charlie, Sam, Fitz, Trix and Bennie.

Not perfect matches, but I've found a good stand in for a "Night of the Doctor" Paul McGann and a mature Sarah Jane Smith.
http://artizandesigns.com/prod.php?prod=1180 (http://artizandesigns.com/prod.php?prod=1180)
http://www.artizandesigns.com/prod.php?prod=1129 (http://www.artizandesigns.com/prod.php?prod=1129)

"Sarah Jane" may have a pistol that needs to be removed.  The "Doctor" obviously needs his gun removed and also has a bottle in his left hand that may need removing.

Yeoman Models ( http://www.yeomanmodels.com (http://www.yeomanmodels.com) )  have this 28mm Police Box in blue resin, clear resin or half and half:

(http://i1079.photobucket.com/albums/w519/SteveFlanaganUK2/Odds%20and%20Ends/YeomanPoliceBox_zps92af6600.jpg) (http://s1079.photobucket.com/user/SteveFlanaganUK2/media/Odds%20and%20Ends/YeomanPoliceBox_zps92af6600.jpg.html)

I have a blue resin one in front of me: it is cleanly cast, with no bubbles or flash.  It is about the same height as the Ainsty police box, but narrower - more like the proportions of the real thing, but perhaps a shade small alongside typical 28mm wargames figures.  I'll be happy to use it for the original series Tardis prop(s), but not for the rather larger BBC Wales 21st century versions.

Blue Resin versions are also available from Yeoman's ebay shop in 1/72, 1/87, and 1/100.

Also available from Grekwood Miniatures (in 28mm): http://www.grekwoodminiatures.co.uk/index.php#/ (http://www.grekwoodminiatures.co.uk/index.php#/)

Look past the colours Kevin Dallimore has chosen, and the relative chunkiness of Steve Saleh's sculpt compared to the Crooked Dice "Vortex adventurer", and you may notice that this figure is dressed like, and has the same hairstyle as, the Eighth Doctor in The Night of the Doctor:

(http://i1079.photobucket.com/albums/w519/SteveFlanaganUK2/Odds%20and%20Ends/img6141_zpsa35028e3.jpg) (http://s1079.photobucket.com/user/SteveFlanaganUK2/media/Odds%20and%20Ends/img6141_zpsa35028e3.jpg.html)

"Time Rider", from Steve Saleh's "Lucid Eye" range for North Star: http://www.northstarfigures.com/prod.php?prod=6141 (http://www.northstarfigures.com/prod.php?prod=6141)

Reference for OOP official minis.

Boardgamegeek has an overview:
http://boardgamegeek.com/wiki/page/Doctor_Who_Miniatures (http://boardgamegeek.com/wiki/page/Doctor_Who_Miniatures)
They've missed one: although most of the Eaglemoss figurines are 1/21, they also produced a subscription-only model of the Dalek Emperor from "The Parting of the Ways" at 1/41 scale.

The Citadel range, produced in 1986, at The Stuff of Legends:
http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=67463.0 (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=67463.0)

The FASA range, cast by RAFM, from 1986, also at The Stuff of Legends:
http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~tpope/sol/fasa/doctor-who.html (http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~tpope/sol/fasa/doctor-who.html)
Note that this is essentially the same set of figures as the Citadel range, minus Mike Yates and the plastic Cybermen and Daleks, but plus packs of "Player Character Time Lords" and "Temporal Marauders" which are not based on any characters from the TV series.  The other difference is that the Citadel versions were on slotta bases (except for the plastics), while the FASA versions had cast-on bases.

The Character Options Doctor Who Micro-Universe range, listed at Doctor Who Toys.net:
http://doctorwhotoys.net/microuniverse.htm (http://doctorwhotoys.net/microuniverse.htm)

Not all of the Harlequin Miniatures range is still available at Black Tree Design.  Here is the Lost Minis Wiki listing of the full range:
http://www.miniatures-workshop.com/lostminiswiki/index.php?title=Doctor_Who_(Harlequin) (http://www.miniatures-workshop.com/lostminiswiki/index.php?title=Doctor_Who_(Harlequin))

It's probably a sin to make so many consecutive posts to the same thread, but here we go …

The latest issue of Doctor Who Adventures (no 352, dated 13-26 August 2014) comes with a box of the now familiar plastic Dalek, blobby Cyberman, Ood, Silurian, Silence, Sontaran and Weeping Angels figures, but adds a "Cold War" Ice Warrior and a "Day of the Doctor" Zygon.

Unfortunately, they are titchy - Skaldak towered over the Doctor, but at 29mm floor-to-top-of-head, the Ice Warrior figure barely comes up to Tweedy Mattison's eyes.  The Zygon is also 29mm tall to the top of its elongated pointy head.

While looking (unsuccessfully) for Xulu Spider Robots, I found that Reviresco is selling 4 Rutans (under that very name) for US$4:

As a memo, I've also seen Tyranid spore mines effectively used as flying Rutans (as seen in the BBC game The Gunpowder Plot).

Personally I think you can get away with the Zygon. Shame about the Ice Warrior.

Has anyone tried the Tardis Bobblehead
(http://www.entertainmentearth.com/images/AUTOIMAGES/BBP12011lg.jpg)

Looking at it, it seems in scale with Clix figures (average scale of most of my figs).

Would have also worked well with the Doctor Who Micro Universe figs

A few more.

CP Models "Mature plant thing" will make a nice late-stage Krynoid.

Reaper "Telephone box".

As seen here http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=81745.0;topicseen (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=81745.0;topicseen) , Crooked Dice are producing Soldiers in 1960s/1970s British uniforms with berets and SLRs (with Sterling SMGs to follow).  These would work for UNIT from mid-1970s stories from "Terror of the Autons" to "The Seeds of Doom", or as regular British army troops as seen in "The War Machines", "The Invasion", "The Claws of Axos" or "Invasion of the Dinosaurs".

Has something happened?  Many of the previously available unofficial-but-close figures have vanished with nary a word.

Warlord Games have got an official license by the BBC... (and have of course released the first miniatures)

"Under the terms of our license, the Doctor Who range is not available in our US store."
