I'm in! here comes an unreleased (yet) LAM Bruegelburg figure. I think he's medieval enough :)
#2 - Hugo, the revolting peasant
(http://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/14/3_01_09_13_6_26_10.jpg)
That's a great figure too Pocoloco. By Copplestone? Or Perry?

Ok, I'm in, will need a couple of days to get something done though, so don't all you talented people take up all the slots too quickly! :)
Awfully sorry, can't remember... the range includes this late medieval WOTR era chap, then, eg. Charley (from Charley's War comic) toting a Lewis gun etc.
Strictly speaken Josef the Crofter is not a Citadel minature. He is CZ5 from Marauder part of the MM62 Citizens.

I used this lovely miniature as the troubleseeking peasant for the Tavern in Talisman.
Oooh!
This is getting better and better.
First the Viking comes up trumps with le Serpent, then the Lt. throws in the amazing Seppl, and to top it all off Hammers blows my mind with that amazing scene!
Great work, people!
:-* :-* :-*
Hammers: Is that a GW tree, because if it is you have certainly taken it to the next level.
:o
It is. It is a great product. Expensive, yes, but very useful customizable and pretty on the gaming table.
What a brilliant figure :-*
Superb stuff so far! :-*
Just remembered I'm going on holiday next week so won't be able to contribute after all. God damnit! :-[
Still, that just leaves a great long thread of loveliness to look forward to when I get back.
The MPO has a 200 entry limit, remember? So it is more inclusive (or less exclusive, depending on your outlook on life) than the APC and PPC. You stand a decent chance to still be able to enter the Order.
Thanks, guys! :) The model painted itself, so all praise must go to Ratnik and the Professor. That's what the gomenaki called me when I was in Saloniki ;)
@Hazel
Gomenos? Nice one. lol lol lol Just for the rest of you... that a Greek colloquialism for "a hunk of a man".
Love both of those, Figouze and DrTV. They look like they should be fighting each other! :)

In this case Darrell, I think it's 200 in total, painted by as many people as want to participate before the 200 is reached.
:)
Stonking entries chaps. ;D
#22- Citadel Viking Warlord
(http://displacedminiatures.com/images/1.img.13784388151-P1010050.JPG)
Short, but stout of heart!
That beard will need to grow fast on this one if he is to survive the next year! :D
Great stuff, Dr.tV!
lol Hammers, have you been at the absinthe again?!
That there viking reminds me of Röde Orm, if you are familiar with him, Jens...
Very nice there Admiral!
Hwhe yes I am. But I already have painted a figure called Røde Orm... so maybe this is his son. :)
I am proud to have taken over the Club of Posting from Hammers and the Pulp Board. The idea is the same in most things but the theme, which of course, given the Board, is about everything medieval from just about 500 until 1600. I know the natural border seems to be 1500 but since a lot of guys her posted pictures of miniatures from the blood-stained Tudor period I think that is okay.
He's made by.... well, perhaps I can briefly digress from this wonderful parade of figure painting (if the moderators will allow) to see if any esteemed LAF member recognises the manufacturer? It comes from a small range of late medievals, all of which were great sculpts, but which sadly are no longer available.
Oooh - very nice Niels :)
It was worth the effort.
Simon, is he from the ex-Grenadier, Copplestone-sculpted Wars of the Roses range briefly carried by Companion Miniatures - now defunct? The style look similar.

No. 39: Morthwyl–y-Goch ... Gael-Norse Raider circa C9th-C11th
Morthwyl is modelling this season's must-have item, a check cloak with hammer and shield accessories. He certainly won't be plaid by anyone, and shows he is equally at home tartan it about on board ship or braining a resisting villager.
His natural style is certainly a hit with the ladies, which is made all the easier when they're concussed and being dragged by the hair back to the boats. Equally stylish on the catwalk or the high street, his unique 'Isle of Man' look is easily complemented by oily iron, bloodstained leather and sweat-soaked fur, for that all-round coastal raider ensemble.

Michi, I have to ask: Where is that Norman from.
I love that pose.
Sorry, I don´t know, I bought him here in the bazaar from Wayswatcher. Maybe he can answer your question.
You are right, the pose is so relaxed and challenging, arrogant and superior that he simply had to be my warlord, even though he was meant to be an ordinary warrior. I really like him too.

Nice touch on the spearhead too.
Is it a wire spear?
Mason kindly donated the Partizan figure to me recently - thanks Paul :)It's a lovely figure, full plate is not my usual thing.
All rather nice.
Love the Teutonic knights Malcolm. How did you do the snow on the bases?
Thanks. :)
Snow?
I do the base "as normal" then with a toothpick "dollop" blobs of white polyfilla. It's quite wet and settles as it dries but, importantly, doesn't crack. Once completely set I just give the whole base a dry brush with white paint.
(I can't recall where I read this method, but every time I read some "complicated" snow-base tutorial I remind myself of the polyfilla "trick." ::) )

Excellent. Although for some reason the helmet makes me think of Ned Kelly. ::)

We'll have to hurry before Captain Blood fills out the entire 200 minis :D
Link? I'd be interested. :)
Ha!
I spent the whole of April - August demolishing walls and putting in a new kitchen. Plus directing a big open air Shakespeare. Plus launched a new version of my writing website. Plus the day job, family, and everything else obviously... ::)
Apart from one or two figures for the Ancients Painting Club, I don't think I painted a thing for almost 6 months. And strangely, I didn't miss it, so I guess I needed a break...
I've learned over the years: don't try and force yourself to paint if the mood isn't upon you. Just paint like Bejasus when it is!
Now I've hit a full-on PPP (purple painting patch), and I'm churning out all sorts while I have the mojo back. (Fear not, it will disappear again within a few weeks, I have no doubt ;))
(Guess that says something about the relative minority interest in medievals on LAF ::))
• You may post only one miniature base each day.
• This is not about showing your collection of already painted stuff, so please do post only newly painted miniatures.
No 88 - Earl of Warwick
15mm Legio Heroica
Nice work, Vonkluge!Yes according to my research and many other sources its fairly common. I would think it was to help distinguish friend from foe in the mad melees that characterized dark ages warfare. It would have also have helped commanders recognize troops on the battlefield. It becomes much more prevalent as the dark ages give way to the middle ages.
:-*
One question, though: Is the multi-coloured helmet a historical thing or something you made up?
I have no idea and am hoping that it is historically accurate so that I have an excuse for doing something similar myself
Nice work Ray.

I have not taken the time or effort with some of these as they are part of "lower class" units and not worth the detail of the knights or "warlord / character" figures and need to get paintedIf that is the detail you get when you are not taking the time and effort I look with great anticipation to seeing your warlord figure. I think this figure and the other crossbowmen you have posted here are very good.

Speaking of that Warlord figure...if there is more than one figure on the base should it be listed as one "entry" number or two? Welf VIII? Captn?
Yes it really helps with those clumsy gamers that tend to lean over the table and squash your figures under hand!

Welcome WestWaller,
From the looks of your figure you belong here! Nice job on the mini!
As for the photograph.... are you using the flash? If your camera has a manual setting that allows the centering of focus to be set on the mini and then balances the flash for front fill to that use it. It looks as if your camera is balancing for the background at the moment and not the mini.
Bill W
The plaka casein looks interesting. Never have seen it in the USA though.
Thanks @Vonkluge :). I did not use the flash, as I used the camera in 'macro' setting and (I think) that it does not allow you to use the flash in Macro?? I did try to use a daylight lamp for some extra light but as I only had one to use, it created shadow... I might have another go at taking some photographs some time else, as the light was beginning to fade when I took the picture (after setting up, running around looking for batteries for the camera

Does cagoule mean somthing in English, too?
Yeah, it's much the same in English, it usually means a light jacket with a hood. An alternative name for a similar thing is a 'wind-cheater'.
I was making an eye-wateringly hilarious pune, or play on words. I declare it to be the most whimsical jape of the season.
lol I believe they were making a joke as to what is being revealed by the wind under the wind blown jacket of your miniature....the "Badum-tish" or as I would have written "Baadoom Tish" is for the sound a drum makes, accenting the punchline of a comedians joke, usually a play on words type joke. Well at least that's what I got out of the exchange... ;D hope I interput it correctly... lol

What a good excuse to paint something a little different. This is a decent model from Foundry (Foot Knights pack) with a quick and easy paint job. Attaching the shield after painting each separately was rather frustrating considering that the shield peg was too short. I ended up using a bit of greenstuff to fill the hole, then repainted the outside of the shield and covered it with the symbol.
Holy Battle Axe!

The NMM looks a treat on the helmet but I'm not so sure about the sword.
I think the shield is fine, but the angle of the photo makes it look so predominate in the frame that the flatness is what bothers one. Is it a "transfer"? I think that a bit of splattered mud would help.

I couldn't use a transfer on this shield because of the rivets, but ironically I prefer it to the others.
@Bugsda: do you mind sharing your technique for your metals? They look great and I'd like to try this effect for myself.
Not at all, I'm actually unpainting the figure lol
Essentially I just rub the matt black enamel base coat off with 0000 wire wool before I do any other painting, it's tends to get messy.
It's more about how you do it than what you do. Wrapping the wool round different things like cocktail sticks or paintbrush handles lets you get into nooks and crannies and also allows harder pressure to be put on the wire wool.
Be careful not to wear away any detail especially around helmets, you can take a nose off as quick as a cuckold Apache if your not paying attention ;)
Ink washes over the bare metal can give some good effects as well, blue tends to make armour look clean while brown makes it look dirty.
You can also make armour look very bright by burnishing the armour with a stainless steel darning needle, I use a wax 5 sculpting tool.
Unfortunately none of this works on Perry plastics. ;)
And now... he will have to kill you!
;)
Bugsda - do you find that the shine tarnishes over time and needs re-polishing?

Made for my SAGA warband, the figure is a mix of parts from Wargames Factory: body is from their ancient Germans, weapons and head from their Vikings. I have three more in the batch, but I decided to push forward with this one alone, to ensure he made it into the club.
I think maybe I should have gone one more layer lighter for a more "Northern" skin tone, but if he's running around in the summer sun with his shirt off, he should have a little more color than usual anyway, right? :)

Viking Piss head from the old Norse Lager Saga ;)That's the SAGA I prefer to play, too. :D
He looks great mate! I just started playing with a new way to do lighter skin tones. Instead of browns to shade, I went with more purples with some red. Vallejo Violet Red and Black Red instead of darker browns. I also made a mix of red and purple inks, 50/50, so I can quickly shade troops the same way. I used it on all of these vikings, but I think it shows up best on my first one on page 38 or so.Thanks TBC, that's interesting. I'll play around with adding different colors in the washes. What do you use for the base color of your fleshtones?
Cheers!
Next painting club will be announced shortly... :)
I've only just looked at my last one on a laptop and I must apologise for the photo. I was trying to take it at night using several light sources and I didn't look too bad on my mobile, it's quite the 'large print' job on the bigger screen. I feel rather guilty that this shoddy entry prevented a more worthy figure getting in. :(
Ditto...
Next painting club will be announced shortly... :)Can't wait for the next one. Fingers crossed for Future Wars, Post Apoc, Fantasy or VSF. I got ton's of unpainted mini's for those genres and could do with a kick up the backside. :D
A new LAF painting club will kick off on 1 December.
An announcement from the relevant moderator will be made soon :)
