Title: Looking for a fairly modern crane
Post by: Centaur_Seducer on November 20, 2013, 05:46:21 PM
Hi guys. I need to complete my ship, and that involves a crane.
I'm a bit lost though. I've been rummaging through some diecast on ebay, and I'm aware of the Scotia Grendel one, but to be fair, it's a bit too futuristic (and bloody bulky IIRC).
So, any suggestions? :)

Thank you! But, I forgot that I need one with hydralics. I realise I have to scratchbuild one.

Maybe you can find a toy crane and modify it a bit :)

I take it the Fenris Games dock crane (here) (http://www.fenrisgames.com/shop.html#!/~/product/id=22094609) is too large:

Finished model is approx 325mm tall (depending on assembly choices) with a footprint roughly A4 including extended boom arm.

I would head for the model boating sites - have a look at http://www.harbormodels.com/site08/cranes_and_winches2.htm (http://www.harbormodels.com/site08/cranes_and_winches2.htm) or possibly look at a tractor based one from the toy range?

Have you extended the search into model railroad territory? Cargo-handling equipment ranging from simple platform winches up to models of the titanic Hulett Unloaders are commonly-modeled subjects...

A couple of years ago I converted a toy carrier into a helicarrier ( tabletop-shrunk...  :D ), using the hydraulic crane of a diecast recovery vehicle in the process:

Scalescenes.com do a gantry crane, they produce print out scenery.

I can't link it here as I'm using my tablet, but its easily found on their page.

Once again LAF strikes :)
Thank you for all the good resources and suggestions! :-*
Much appreciated :)
In the end I had to settle to scratchbuild one, although with a bit horrific result lol
Hopefully some cutting and green stuffing might render alright :)
