Title: Tomorrows war force models ideas
Post by: King Tiger on January 14, 2014, 10:30:26 PM
I need some ideas for 28mm models for use in tomorrow's war.
I've already decided it must have a major kusanagi model and already ordered this one
 http://www.northstarfigures.com/prod.php?prod=5520
The force itself will come from Japan (the models do not need Japanese facial features)
I want them to be relatively equal in tech to most Tier 2 units already in the book, so ballistic weapons or early lasers
I first thought of using mordian iron guard, painted like the Japanese army from the end of last samurai, however I want alternatives due to difficulty in getting some models
The models can have any theme, they do not need to stick to the above
They must be easy to obtain in the UK

Any ideas?

Maybe some of the urban mammoth triad figs and some of the new and old war zone figures.

First off, do you want a Batou to go with your Major?

Secondly, how large is the force you're planning, and how much are you willing to spend?

Not sure if the GZG Asian influenced army might be useful?  Is GZG 28 or 25 mm?  It's been so long since I bought anything GZG except 6 mm or Starships I don't remember...

Gracias,

Glenn

Alas, 25 mm.  But the Japanes Corporate Mercs http://shop.groundzerogames.co.uk/index.php?_a=category&cat_id=110 and (possibly less so) Eurasian Solar Union http://shop.groundzerogames.co.uk/index.php?_a=category&cat_id=82 have some nice figures with Asian links game fluff wise.   When I was doing larger figures I had Indonesian Commonwealth (knee, body, shoulder pad looking body armor IIRC) versus (using New Isreali [sic] figures) Native People's Circle troops.

Gracias,

Glenn

Edit more/better pictures here - http://eurekamin.com.au/index.php?cPath=204_207_223&sort=3a -  for GZG in general.

Troopers with dress cap heads.

@commissar: while the colonial troops are pretty much perfect, the prices make GW look cheap  :o
And using Warzone old figures would be a no, and using new ones would require a range more extensive than 2 infantry choices unfortunately (its why my new Warzone no longer interest me at all)

@destron: oh I was already very tempted by a batou haha, and may still be :P
And I will probably start with a small platoon, a scout vehicle (which I have something suitable) and 1 MBT, maybe 1 squad of elite troops, which I have some spare old GW storm troopers for, or maybe some of the mantic enforcers, but only as elite forces units
Price wise I dunno yet, with my money I'd just buy bits and pieces as and when at the moment

@conquistador: unfortunately I'm really no fan of those GZG figures

@inso: I know of the lovely stuff Victoria does, but its not UK based, and I'm not paying extra charges getting those imported in, not at the way they charge duty these days

You can get the Urban Mammoth Viridian Colonial marines cheaper in the Archive Mammoth section of the Scotia Grendel store. 9 Quid for 4. :)

I had forgotten about the hasslefree stuff, thanks for reminding me
And I had also forgotten about pig iron, more specifically the near future range

Well that was just silly wasn't it. ;) don't forget about 4a's snow troopers, silent invaders ICE troopers. Both could be cold weather Japanese mid tech forces.

Good luck.
